- Megalopolis sci-fi drama from the iconic Francis Ford Coppola.
Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
Megalopolis stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman. The film is directed, written, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola alongside Anahid Nazarian, Barrie Osborne, and Darren Demetre as executive producers.
Megalopolis is set to premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2024.

Just when we all thought Francis was out, HE PULLS HIMSELF BACK IN.
No your name is a joke
He must be eating magic mushrooms... The freakin clouds move darn fast.... Psychedelic 😂😂😂😂🐮🐮🐮
Yeah, where has he been all these years anyway?
He ate a little gabagool
He never left.
A movie made of pure passion, not from greed. A movie that the director personally invested in, risked ridicule on, just because he wants to shwo the world an idea that has been brewing for years in his head. Successful or not, who cares. Francis is a true artist.
He's a mega millionaire with money to burn and tons of time on his hands. Stop with the embarrassing idolatry.
@@o82774 Dude had to sell his vineyard to fund his passion project....Moreover he still hasn't find a distributor, right?
@@o82774 What? haha a 120 million to spend on a movie is a lot to anyone even millionaires.
@@o82774yes, artists works because they got nothing to do, of course

Apparently this has been Francis' passion project since the 70's... I will definitely watch.
The trailer tells you nothing of the film, but does the important thing, it intrigues. I'm excited to see what Coppola has done. His career has been amazing, and the fact that he was confident/excited enough about the film that he sold his vineyards to finance it makes me equally excited to see this work of passion.
It's a boring scene
I’m not all that intrigued to be honest
It's not a trailer it's a clip
It's not a trailer, it literally says in the title that it's a clip from the movie.

Feel likes the movie is either gonna be amazing or an absolute train wreck,Francis hasn’t made a movie in years and the last couple he made were awful so let’s see lol
You are lame...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
There's something in it for everyone.
Coppola sold his vineyard to make this film.
People will think this is a joke but he literally did, he funded almost the entire thing himself.
This comment shocked me more than the "first look"
His choice.. bad one , but his…
He still has his vineyard. He just sold some of the land and used A LOT of the profits from his winery to make this. But yea, still, it was not a sound decision.

Adam Driver is such a strange human being, he looks like he doesn’t fit in any role, yet somehow can fit in any role...
Adam would be a excellent middle aged Mr Spock in Star Trek
@@leokimvideoThat's a much better idea than having him play Darth Vader's grandson.
Facts lol like he always seems out of place but somehow completely pulls you in to the role. He’s like a new Nicolas Cage.

The perfect trailer. Doesn’t give anything away, no ‘highlight reel’. Just pure intrigue.
There's nothing intriguing here at all

Please let this movie succeed! It is such an honor to see a movie made by such a legend in 2024! People like Coppola and Scorsese just don't exist anymore! Please, please be successful! He did this because he loves movies, not from corporate greed!
Agreed, this is a breath of fresh air for cinema these days. I'm happy there are people like Robert Eggers to make cinema, but the impact Coppola and Scorsese have made will be for more generations to come! And we really need that still in movies today.
I'm predicting everyone 35 and under is going to automatically hate the movie because that's just their culture now. The tiniest of faults in some interview or trailer will render the entire film Unwatchable in their eyes.
It's struggling to find a distributor, all the big studios were underwhelmed at test screenings and refused to back it.
@@williamdoyle1108 the fact that this video has 125k views and the one on his official RUclips channel has 200k makes me hopeful that this marketing strategy will work.

FINALLY - a trailer that doesn't show the entire movie. This is what a "trailer" is supposed to be = gives the viewer a brief look at the movie, but entices them to watch. Not like every single trailer out there right now that shows the whole movie in 2 mins.

People born after 2000 can find the great 80's and 90's movies those directors worked on. So, why couldn't people born 10 years from now find and watch the last movies made now by specific directors?

So, they are in jars as brains and are dreaming all of this? 😅
What are you, 90? lmaooo
I'm shocked Coppola had to fund this himself. He made THE GODFATHER. No clue how any studio could turn down the man who made what some consider the pinnacle of filmmaking
In the real-life Roman history this story is based upon, it ended badly for both of them.
Cicero was a conservative member of the government of Rome. Cataline was one leader of a failed plot to overthrow that government. When he and the other conspirators were caught, Cicero was able to convince the Roman Senate to have them all summarily executed without a formal trial - his argument being that by conspiring against Roman civilization, they did not deserve its legal protections. But later on, Cicero lost favor and was himself executed for having Roman citizens executed without a trial.
Cicero wasn’t actually executed. He was killed extrajudicially by a legionary so his property could absorbed into Augustus’s holdings.
@@theempiredidnothingwrong3227
Sounds fairly typical for Roman politics and Roman Big Business - which were effectively the same thing, as is still the case today in some quarters.
where does stopping time come into play?
The conspiracy charges were dubious, Cicero just wanted an excuse to kill people trying to pass progressive reforms (actually helping citizens instead of enriching the wealthy senators)

Far and away my most anticipated of the year, and this is how you tease a film!
So we already got a perfectly directed, perfectly acted, and perfectly edited scene with perfect effects. Some old timers just never lose it.

This is not a physics thesis. It's a movie very obviously filled with allegory and metaphor by an auteur director known for allegory and metaphor.

Lol he did sound like him
The ease with which people are willing to accept that a person would test time stopping by dropping off to his death rather than just dropping to the floor reminds me of a certain pipeline story.
It's not about what you believe someone would do in real life, it's about what the scene is saying about the character.
He did not use the floor, he used a deadly drop, presumably because part of him wants to die.

He means Za Warudo to him.
Only a master cinematographer could capture the mood of impending zeitgeist with such enigmatic layering, filmed with iconic visual framing suggesting a dystopian reference to fundamental existential questions. This will be studied in film schools for years. Forget the opening long shot to "A Touch of Evil" - this trailer is pure genius.
