I’ve made a couple of long toppers, and the biggest challenge is that there’s so much layering in back that the sides tend to end up longer than the back. I’m trying to figure out how to replace some shorter wefts in back with longer ones to match the sides. I’ve cut through the ear tabs (and pulled out the metal stays), because my head is petite and the ear tabs come down below the tops of my ears. I enjoy having many more options with color by turning wigs into toppers, as there aren’t many toppers out there that are the right color and size for me.
You can also use a Milano Collection Large TopGrip Non-Slip Comfort Band. It is good for wigs and toppers. The topper front clips can be clipped to the Milano Band instead of the hair. Personally, I don't like to clip the clips to my hair, so I use adhesive and the Milano TopGrip Non-Slip Comfort Band.
@@tammywisecup5634 Hi Tammy, I don't glue the Milano band to my scalp, I glue the lace front of the topper to my forehead just before my scalp. But, Milano has a TopGrip Comfort Band with lace front, this lace front you could glue it to your scalp if you don't have any hair there. Also, Milano has two different sizes for the Milano TopGrip Comfort Band. I bought the one for the larger base toppers & wigs. If you go to the Milano side you can see videos on how to wear the TopGrip Comfort Band, how to attach the clips and how to adjust the elastic.
I love this video! You’ve made this look so easy to do. (And the way you have your phone propped up is hilarious; I do that all the time and inevitably the phone will fall over during the middle of a Zoom meeting.)
Can you cut through the ear tabs, or do you need to either keep them or cut them off completely? I need about an 8-9” base, which is larger than the crown area, about midway into the ear tabs. Thanks for this helpful video! 👏
@@RowanStichbury you would need to work out what size topper base you want and then measure the length of the wefts that would form the edge of the topper to see how long they would be. That will tell you how long it will be. I guess you could keep some of the longer wefts from the bottom of the wig and sew them back onto the topper once you have cut it
I tend to buy clips from Amazon but I make sure they have a bit of clear plastic across the metal prongs. Some of the big wig brands have amazing clips on their toppers, but it is a secret where they get them from!
Since you measured 12" from ear to ear, wouldn't you need to measure from front to back 12" also otherwise don't you have a 12" by 10" topper instead of 10 by 10? I ask because it looks as though the back is shorter than the sides when on unless that's the way you intended it to be?
GREAT demonstration! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us.

Can you show a pic of how the clips go on the Milano band?
And do you glue the band to your scalp?

I have wigs I don't wear because they don't fit correctly ( too tight ) . This might help me repurpose them a bit as toppers . Great idea !
This is a game changer! Thank you!!!
You are very welcome!

This was really helpful, thank you
Great video. Would have been easier to see on a light colored wig.
Or if you’d worn a light colored top for some contrast.
looks great . thx
Would this also work with a cap that has a net over it? Kind of like the wigs from wig is fashion?
Do you mean a hand-tied closed cap? I think this only works if you have open wefts
Does taking the wefts out shorten the length of the hair 🙂
It can do. Depends which ones you take out
@@HerHairMyHead I want to keep the length so what wefts would you remove 🙂

Which clips are best? I’m buying my first set

I want to make a wig a topper but don't want to lose alot of hair.So I should just do the very bottom.

Yes I suppose it would be more like a 12x10, unless you cut off the ear tabs to make it smaller
The faces you make
