I've skied in Colorado - Breck, Key, and Copper but I thought Whistler was a lot more fun. I went skiing in late April and it was still great. They only had Blackcomb open but there were so many areas and trails to explore. The scenery was breathtaking as well. The lodge and resort area was great too. I've heard Vail resorts made some unpopular changes but for me this was a great skiing experience.
I grew up skiing in Whistler, started at 3years, and haven't stopped the love for it. Although I am in Australia now and the slopes are pretty far away from where I live. But after one lesson or a day of skiing, my memory and my body remembers exactly how to do it. Whistler is the best for skiing!
We ski Whistler a number of days every winter -6 days this year. My family has seasons passes at another local hill (Cypress mountain) and ski there every week. So our skill level is advanced/expert. Going to Whistler your going to benefit the most if your can ski the black diamonds. If your intermediate or beginner then the difference between any decent resort isn’t as significant as a blue or green trail is a blue or green trail. Whistler has tons of terrain for every level of skier. Everything from long green (beginner) runs to unmarked (but in bounds) “triple diamond” runs like the “Coffin”. The volume and variety of advanced and expert terrain is better than most places on the planet. For example most ski resorts don’t have any Couloir at all. While Whistler has tons of it on each of its two mountains. Tons of glades too. I’ve watched videos of the major resorts in the alps and felt that they weren’t as good as Whistler. Both mountains are equally great to ski and both offer all the terrain we need. So we normally just ski one mountain each visit -Whistler or Blackcomb. Then the next visit ski the other mountain. We do this to avoid wasting time “portaging” between mountains when we could be skiing. Go mid March to increase your odds of major snow dumps the night before. Even April is still good. We went 3 days mid March this year. On all 3 days we had large amounts of fresh powder -20 to 40cm. Science fiction fun if you have the skill and the fitness to do the blacks. Another nice thing about Whistler is the runs don’t have what I call “dead spots”. Meaning you are always going down hill on the runs and never have to “cross country ski” in the middle of a run to get to the next slope. If your an advanced or expert Skier visiting Whistler is a must. Ski 2 days minimum. Ski one mountain each day. If your an intermediate or beginner I feel you can have similar fun in lots of other places and spend significantly less $$$.
Man, I hated my time at Whistler. It's just one giant tourist trap. The mountains are amazing but you're spending the time waiting in line, taking slow lifts, dodging jerrys, and soaking in the rain. With better snow quality, ditching most of the gondolas for high speed chairs, and letting like 1/8th as many people in it'd be amazing but as is? Nah.
yes, unfortunately Whistler is too close to Vancouver that brings a huge crowd to the resort. Whistler has become a new Disneyland! Sad I used love to spend my winters there!
Europe is better though. Austria is the 3000m+ multi peak paradise with runs bigger than most north american mountains. Whistler is alright though, it's a bit too busy with poor lift infrastructure but with some research you can navigate the crowds. It's 5x the cost of a European resort 5x the size though.

Hasn't it always? Or is there better roads now so more people come?
Genuine question.
It's good to be us🍾🍻
