- This time I separated all the different stems of the tracks using an AI stem separator which allowed me to keep the drums the same pitch so they don't have that muddy sound like they usually do!!!

People who weren't alive when this was released can't appreciate what a huge game changer thus was for metal.
I was 16, and we knew it was incredibly special then.
They weren't huge. Most people didn't even know who they were save for a small number of music listeners and players.
There was no internet or cell phones. The value of music was bigger then.
When something this huge came out, it literally changed you.
You became part of something so hidden and precious that it truly felt like it was only yours.
Those days are long gone, but that summer we also got reign in blood and peace sells.
Kids today will never experience a living revolution while it's in motion.
We did, and we were in awe as it unfolded right before our eyes.
Goddamn. Thanks for that description. You got to live in a very special era. Born in 1970? My cousin was 69 and another 71. And yeah they had a fun life. I would have loved to be 20 in 87 or 88 and living in LA at that time.
@@vs4571 thanks man. I dropped that to try and give perspective. Music has continually gotten better since then in technique and expression. There's so many killer bands today in both beauty and brutality, but our access is so easy and unlimited that it's an ocean nowadays.
We used to go to the record store every weekend on the bus to cruise the bins buying things based on album art or who was in the credits, or what label it was on.
We used to write letters to other metal heads, trade zines and send cassettes to each other like it was a job lol.
The grindcore dudes would often mail dead shit or ass wiped toilet paper lol. It was awesome. Before the Cross- over period, people got beat up at shows. It was the wild west and the pits were brutal af.
The commitment level and newness was nuts, but punk has really paved the way for us with pit etiquette.
The weirder and newer, the better. Hearing blast beats the first time was face melting lol, but this was the first high bar that was set in place. Everyone in the early scene looked up to puppets as the high water mark.
I walked 10 miles round trip to buy tickets to Metallica's show in June of 86. They played in a tiny ballroom at an amusement park. We got to hang out with them before and after the show; they were just normal dudes. Cliff was kind of a dick, actually. He was too cool for school and didn't really hang out, but the other dudes were all funny. James cracked jokes non stop and Kirk gave me a Heineken.
The days before barricades were lit.
Around 1990 shit started to get lame, the dynamics had changed a lot, shows were less personal, but the early days was like riding a swell that was going to break into a monster barrel you'd never catch again.
Puppets was that wave.
I dunno man. Personally for me, I still hear an album every now and again that wows the shit out of me. Something that hasn't been done before, or has even revived a relatively unappreciated old-school underground movement.
Unfortunately the good shit is no longer mainstream and you have to sift through some shit, but just remember that metal itself is heavily inspired by classical music (this song is a prime example).
Everything great survives and inspires the next. The dog shit is filtered out by the listeners and it becomes forgotten. It may pop up in some shitty nightclub DJ set every now and again, but you can live with it.
@@JustinMcVicar one million percent agreed. I think metal today is the evolution of classical. Sifting is a huge task.
I own a Peterbilt and drive constantly, so there's lots of window time to hunt.
New and unique is harder to find, so I rely a lot on the community to expose me to new stuff. I'm into everything, so genre specific channels help a ton. The last couple years I've been into Mgla pretty strong, Slaughter to Prevail, Aborted and a host of others. Shoot me some melodic tips. That's a category I'm always into.
And thanks for replying, Horns up homie!
Dude I can only imagine. How exciting the metal movement was back then! Thanks for the perspective. I was a toddler when this came out.
This has to be the best thing I’ve heard, it’s so majestic, can’t wait to hear “to live is to die” like this
He already did it go see on his channel
Ooh…now I’m curious!
Jjst do it urself
@@vidalpintor4524 if I could I would.
@comedrawcomicwithhc2385 You can bruh, just search his channel name and to Live is to Die lmao
Whenever you hear a song in a new tuning like this it legit hits the same way as when you hear it for the first time. After hearing it like this as of now i think this might be the best song ever
Good news, you can hear any song in "a new tuning" by slapping a pitch shift on it in any DAW and bumping it up or down a few semitones
I think you are right, I was immediately transported to my childhood bedroom, seating in front of my blue AIWA stereo, Master of Puppets booklet in hand, in awe of what was coming out of the speakers. This is truly a game changer for nostalgia.
@@TillyPyeah, but this video, he only up-tuned the bass and guitars, not the drums. It's just "different" than what you describe.
DigiTech drop pedal is amazing for changing tunings
its still as boring as it was originally :(
For a sec I thought this was gonna be F# standard as in low F#
me too lmao
Me three!! I was like "Wait, how does this not sound any lower?!".
needs Meshuggah version of Orion
That's what I was hoping for
Yeah same; not sure why a note higher is a good thing
What an absolute beast of a song to hear in such a different and intriguing way! Awesome job as ALWAYS man
Thanks bro, comments like this make my day 🙏🔥
I had the pleasure of seeing Cliff with Metallica in 1986 at the Birmingham Odeon, UK a few weeks before the tragic bus crash. Thanks for putting new life into this amazing track man, I have tears in my eyes typing this. Such a sad loss to the world. R.I.P. Cliff, you were awesome.
I saw them at the Mayfair in Newcastle the week before that tragic accident, I was right at the front on Cliffs side and he handed me a beer which I passed along after taking a drink..it's still the best gig I've ever been to
Don't be sad. The universe is roughly 13.7 billion years old and life on this planet is 3.7 billions years old, and yet somehow against those unfathomable odds you got to not only exist at the same time as Cliff's glory days, but you also got to see him melt faces live and in the flesh.
That's some amazing luck right there, and you and Cliff were both right there for it. He would want you to smile about that, not cry. ❤
@@MickMcGarnackle ❤️ Great pov man 🤜🤛
The bass solo in this tone is perfection
Gave me full body shivers.. was so fucking good
This imo is the best one so far, also the artwork is insane!!
I agree
stuff like this opens doors for not only new work but reiterations of stuff we collectively decide to keep alive. I think that is something that makes art special and I can't help but think it means Cliff is smiling somewhere
I think he’s smiling knowing that although he’s gone he’s never gonna be forgotten and his legacy will never die💖💖
I never thought that tuning up higher would make songs sound this beautiful. Good job man!
F# minor is just beautiful in general
@@Exileduh that doesn't even make sense, please don't make statements like this as if they're facts when you don't understand what you're talking about
@@bigboss3051it is beautiful though, most if not all the Smiths songs are in F# standard and Johnny Marr creates such beautiful melodies, but he said F# minor which is the key of the song when tuned up a whole step
@@TakingBackWinter00 He didn’t say what he meant so how could anyone know that? A key is not beautiful in and of itself
@@bigboss3051I agree
Doctor: You have 5 minutes to live.
Patient: I want to listen to Orion by Metallica.
Doctor: But sir you only have 5 minutes to live...
God: I'll wait.
well put, good sir
Thats poetry bro
Mwahahaha 🤘
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think this song was the first I ever learned on guitar as a kid. I was instantly enchanted by 5:41 the first time I ever heard it. The Master of Puppets album was a phenomenal introduction to metal.
I absolutely love that harmony part!!!
I highly doubt this was the first song you learned
I highly doubt this was the first song you learned. Maybe just the rhythm section
@@mikeb1596ye ye we get it you are a guitar god
@@mikeb1596 It's completely possible. If you were dedicated enough, you could start with any song. Metallica's tracks are far from an exception to that. When I started, my 2nd song was Sweating Bullets by Megadeth. Then for a few months I only learned Metallica/Megadeth songs.
this is as close as it gets to hearing it for the first time again it’s amazing🤘
the fuck are you talking about, honestly
This song itself is like a soul leaving from your body and travelling into the higher dimensions...
dude didn't like this one because you praised the song itself and not this cheap bullshit lol
when the bass kicked in for the interlude i thought that i was in fucking heaven, this is absolutely beautiful
This really hits an amazing place where nostalgia and novelty intersect.
Best song in MOP album. This sounds amazing!!!
4:15 sounds amazing
The intro sounds darker, more forbidding, but the rest sounds almost happy.
Been listening to Metallica since '87 and learning to play their riffs on guitar since '88 and this still taught me a few things I couldn't hear in standard tuning. There's a touch more complexity to the riffs on this song than I realized. Raising the pitch helps with that. In the old days I'd modify my cassette decks to slow them down, which helped me learn stuff, but of course it's only helpful for nailing the cadence of a fast riff, not so much the notes. I do remember speeding up Justice, trying to hear the bass... little did I know there was none! Thanks for the vid.
Seriously cool. The harmonies during the guitar solos sound so wonderful and the bass solo sounds even more exotic.
It gives it a new vibe for sure. Nice job.
My ears are blessed🔥the artwork is incredible to
Literally was pulling up your channel to listen to your posts during workout and this banger was just posted, absolute W’s🔥💪
I love the vocals!
This is definitely the best version out there, thank you for this work of art!
This is gorgeous
Jesus christ you sir are a mixing genius
My favorite Metallica song ever, so this sounds weird to me. Not bad, just weird. The winner goes to the original, but I love your Metallica experiments.
I’m absolutely blown away by how fuckin good this sounds. 😮
Call of Ktulu in F minor (+3 keys) sounds very mystical and Tornado of souls in C# minor (+2 keys) sounds very powerful. Have you ever heard or made these songs in these tunings?
This was so….beautiful. Amazing job!!!
I love how well the vocals are preserved despite how high the tuning is. Incredible work!
Such a good idea and very original to tune higher ! Thank you that's amazing !
A fully embodied masterpiece!!!
I cried. The harmonies sound even better
my favorite metallica song 🔥🤘
absolutely love the cover art
the bass/guitar solo is crazy, great job
Absolutely wonderful
Oooh so that's what metal in a higher pitch that E standard sounds like. I like it! This should be the new way to go instead of seeing how low guitars can get before they sound muddy
Vektor were doing this years ago. Vocals might not be everyone's thing, but Collapse is one of my all time favourite songs, LCD has an F-standard breakdown that's worth listening to, and Tetrastructural Minds remains one of the most batshit things I've ever heard on a guitar. Especially when you realise the guitarist sings and plays that live.
Just Beautiful.
I just noticed this looks like the cover of a Journey album 🤣
This is beautiful
This sounds amazing
great work!🤘
Awesome!!
this is some good stuff. Beautiful
The first bend in the interlude gave me goodebumps
5:11 love this section using this tuning
Love your work, tks!!!!!
Couldn’t stop smiling bro this hit me different 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
im at work right now and this cover make my day better thx mate, amazing job. waiting for to live is to die.
Nice! even the colors of the artwork look cool
I wonder how Rime of the Ancient Mariner would sound in that tuning
Alternative Title: What if Vektor wrote Orion?
Or what if it was from the album master of the universe, going off the artwork
Well done!
Awesome fucking art
Thank you
SO GOOOD...
I needed to hear this today. Just got terrible news. And when I listen to Metallica, or just Metal overall, it reminds me that we have the power to carry on.
absolutely brother.. keep your head up, keep your heart strong
Amazing
Holy shit man , awesome
Incredible man
That thumbnail pulled me in right away I didn't even see the title yet
Great job man❤
We need more !
I love it!!
Refreshing !!!! ❤
What a Fucking awesome tour !
Groovy! Keep up the good work.
Goosebumps 🤘
fucking beautiful
It's... It's just... _beautiful_ ❤
Amazing as always!!! Would love to see my friend of misery in f# :)
I enjoy this song for 19 years one of my most favourite instrumental by MetallicA
Yep, I'm definitely subscribing to this guy🔥
I've heard this downtuned all the way to G tuning, but never tuned up. It's... Refreshing, to say the least
Thanks, enjoyed it.
For bass is ever tougher...Love it ❤
this sounds so incredibly cool im subbing for this. please do more metallica
yes More of this @geless CLASSIC
Still massively heavy. That OOMPH in the low end thump of the guitars really stands out in this tuning.
Always been the definition of heavy to me.
Esto es hermoso 👍🏻
wow! without this it was nothing!
The clean guitar that starts at roughly 5:15 is much easier to hear in the mix, especially at 5:30
I think that is also partly due to the fact that a lot of fan remixes are done with the Guitar Hero version, which is actually missing the clean guitar part in the tracks - which isn't the case with this one as they probably used the album version
You know, with these videos, I frequently find myself asking if they’re gonna tune it up or down and I find that I’m only right about half the time
Sounds very different, I've been listening to this song since I was fifteen, love it,but ya can't beat standard tuning 🤘🤘
Respect to Cliff Burton... He is such a legend! Also Jay did amazing job of honoring Cliff's Legacy!
my favourite key!
Amazing, this is a great
W video as always. You only upload good music dude
More. More, please, more. Please the entire album!
The cover fits this version so well
This is better than the original
Still fucking awesome!
6:35 I usually love hearing Metallica songs tuned down but my goddamn Cliffs Solo sounds amazing in this register even more shreddy
I just learned this song without the guitar solos. Can't wait to try it in F#
Timbre is what loggers in the UK yell
Reminds me of In Flames from the mid-90's. Pretty cool.
How is that bass solo so perfect
Cliffs solo towards the end RIGHT when it comes in sounds as if the bass is crying. The whole song is harrowing, yet like final battle to end all battles.
Especially in this tuning. Immediately after his bass solo it goes back into the epic riffs. How the fuck did they write this shit at 23. It’s insane……Cliff understood the music. This is a master piece. Musical genius, musical perfection. Such emotion conveyed solely through instruments. The melody, harmony.
I am in awe.
