Shiva Gopal Mishra, the General Secretary of AIRF, discussed the recent controversies surrounding the Indian Railways in an interview. Responding to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's statement urging against politicizing the railways, Mishra emphasized that the railways serve as a vital means of transportation for millions and should not be subjected to political exploitation.
Mishra stated that the railways are a lifeline for common citizens, facilitating travel across the country without bias based on caste, creed, or background. He highlighted the immense infrastructure development and improvements made by the railways over the past decade, enhancing services and creating facilities like the Amrit Bharat stations and modern rolling stock.
Regarding recent incidents captured in viral videos, Mishra acknowledged their impact but cautioned against using them to discredit the entire railway system. He emphasized the importance of addressing any shortcomings through constructive dialogue rather than sensationalism on social media. Mishra also welcomed scrutiny that leads to improvements but criticized attempts solely aimed at tarnishing the railways' image.
On the decision to increase production of general coaches, Mishra supported the move, citing the demand among ordinary passengers who predominantly travel in these coaches. He commended efforts to expand capacity, recognizing the need to cater to a diverse demographic of travelers.
Discussing recent accidents, such as the tragic incident in Shakur Basti, Mishra expressed concern over safety protocols and stressed the importance of strict adherence to safety guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future. He emphasized that the railways must prioritize safety and training to maintain passenger and employee welfare.
In conclusion, Mishra reiterated that the railways' primary goal is to serve the public effectively, and any criticism should be aimed at constructive improvement rather than undermining its essential role in national transportation.
