Thank you. Just passed 250k miles on my 09 Forester. Oci every 3k miles. The engine runs really smooth. Noticed RUclips is now helping me with my grammar on my posts:) Some Engine assories have been changed out.

I just did my wife's Chevy Equinox oil change for the first time today, and HOLY SH*T! I used to laugh at how EVERYWHERE Subaru says "8.6 inches of ground clearance", but MAN is her SUV darn near dragging on the ground. I couldn't fit my ARM under her car, let alone get me under it. My jack was MAXED to get access to the oil drain, while I can just shimmy under my un-jacked Subaru to do the oil change. Also, everything related to the oil change (cartridge filter, CF location, lack of CF clearance for a 32mm, drain plug location/access, oil top off port, ect.) were all OBJECTIVELY more difficult than the Subaru. #AppreciateTheSoob
@@fredharvey2720 Well, last week my wife totalled it in a rear-end collision. So while I will shit on Chevys all day, I will also say : It did it's final job correctly. It did take us to Grand Tenons, Canyon, Mt Rushmore, Utah Arches National Park, pull a 1k pound teardrop trailer, and get high twenties for fuel efficiency throughout the ten years we had it though.

I did the same thermostat housing job without removing the exhaust, and found that a flank drive 10mm end wrench made the difference between getting it off and not
Mr subaru, I’ve watched your videos for years now and i remember you were so cool when i asked a question on instagram. I love your videos man haha i always tune in and we appreciate you helping us and sharing your wisdom
I'm really enjoying these videos because I have a 2014 Forester which will be needing some of this maintenance in the near future. I would like to watch each video for a given project in the order in which they were made. Is there any way of doing that?
We bought a new 2023 base model Forester three months ago. I pray I can find an honest mechanic in my area of Saint Augustine to service the car. Any suggestions on how to find one ? Thanks for your videos. Godspeed.
Good day sir, I know my question is off topic but I have a ‘18 Forester 2.5L with 92k miles, is it still safe to do a drain and fill for transmission fluid or is it too late? Afraid of tranny slippage.. TIA
What’s the part number on a new PCV valve hose? Gonna try to do this part replacement myself. 2012 Impreza Sport. Thanks in advance to anyone for the help!
The shop that I’m having service my new to me 2016 Subaru outback is recommending that I replace the radiator at 100k miles as it’s made of plastic and will fall at the 8-10 years point. Does that make sense. It doesn’t to me.
What its the function of that hole on water pump I install a new one and leaks to it guees i still have some bluedevil on coolant cause i did the same as your forester
My brother has been driving on a slight HG leak for nearly 3 years now. Same situation as this. Doesn’t overheat. Slightly over pressurizes the cooling system. My 75 year old mom drives maybe 35 miles/ week. It’s fine until I can pull the engine.
@@MrSubaru1387 Thank you buddy! Just bought my first Subaru about 5 days ago and love it. 23 Crosstrek Sport. I love watching your videos. I enjoy learning about the boxer engine. Thanks again!
Зачем было устанавливать новую помпу и её шкив, а затем мучаться добираясь до болтов термостата? Не проще ли было сначала всё старое снять, а уж потом и устанавливать новое.
Soooo.... you are going to put a new water pump, thermostat, and belt on an engine with a head gasket issue, and then give it to your Mom to drive? Ok then.
My mother is 75 and drives 35 miles/wk max. My brother has been driving his Outback with a slight HG leak, same as this one, for nearly 3 years. Doesn’t over heat. What’s the problem? As soon as I have an area to work, I’ll replace the HGs.
Being that this past 6 months are my first forays into Subaru boxer engine maladies, I was surprised that some immediate action wasn't necessary. My past experiences with head gasket issues on other types of engines including heavy duty diesels, usually result in scored pistons, or cylinder scoring, and the evacuation of the coolant system of all the coolant, so my comment was more of a "why bother" when the end result is usually the replacement of the head gasket. @@MrSubaru1387
Sorry to barge in. 2010 outback H6 automatic, 207000km AT OIL TEMP started flashing after we cleared some other old codes (about knock sensor, nothing too important) checked in manual and it says issues with TCM Any other details you can give me? I'm going to the dealership for a diag in 48h but maybe you have some magic clue about my thing(?) Much love - have been binge watching your videos since I purchased it (and even a bit before)
AT light flashing means you have an active code in the TCM. That year i bet you have a solenoid failing in the valve body, probably the lockup solenoid they go out quite commonly. unfortunately solenoids are not available separately from the valve body on that year so your most likely going to end up getting a valve body replacement.
@@greasemonkeymechanic1 Wouldn't that throw a code? I used a very good scanner and there's zero code on transmission. Also, if it's a solenoid, is there a chance it doesn't worsen to another solenoid failing for a while?
@@garyoak4175 we have been driving my mom's 2010 Forester for about 5 years with this exact problem, it's now over 200k miles and it's still fine aside from it kicks out of lockup occasionally and doesn't get quite as good of milage. I have had mixed results with scanners actually pulling transmission codes on Subarus so it may just be your scanner, but Subaru should be able to pull a code if it is there. It's also possible something else is causing it to blink, but it's typically because it's throwing a code
Thanks a ton for answering by the way. It's currently at dealership, they will check the transmission code tomorrow AM. The indicator also started right after we cleared codes (old) via OBDII. I personally doubt it's an issue. Wish me luck. The mechanic seemed to think it was either the body valve or the whole transmission needing to be replaced but I'm not sure if he was trying to upsell. Ain't no way I'm paying that. Already 4k down with this... had to redo the entire brakes.@@greasemonkeymechanic1

Well done as usual. I agree, it may have been a little bit easier with the water pump off. 👍
Can also break the pulley bolts loose before you take the belt off also. That's a great place to put the thermostat housing huh 😂
The typical engineer response to the placement of the thermostat housing would be "It will never break, you won't have to work on it".
