    First of all, this appears to be the same glove they sell at Lee Valley & Veritas for twice as much.
    Then to the caveats: This is a meat processing glove - it was not made for wood working. Butchers typically wear another glove under the chain mail glove, so these ones have a very wide palm and fingers. Unless you have fat hands with stubbly fingers, it will rattle around on your hands. If you pick a smaller size, the fingers won't be long enough.
    And that leads to the second flaw: If you have narrow wrist, the wrist band can't be snug on the left hand even adjusted all the way. It can on the right hand (the fasteners are offset), so if you're a leftie, you'll be fine.
    Third flaw: The mesh is not fine enough, as it is made to meat processing certifications where a particular mesh size has to be used. This means it will mar woods if held firmly.
    The mesh size also leads to the biggest problem: It does not protect against knife tip nicks. The mesh is not fine enough. A pointy knife tip goes through with NO resistance and penetrates the skin deep enough to bleed. Which is the only reason why I bought the glove in the first place - I was tired of all the tiny nicks on my left index finger I got from whittling. With this glove, I still get them.
    If worn with another glove beneath, I'm sure both the wideness and puncture protection increases, but then you trade off control.
    All in all, I cannot recommend these for wood working.

      I would recommend you rivetted mail instead of this garbage used here. This type of chaimail cant even protect from a lot of cuts. Riveted mail is the best type of chainmail and was used for centuries. If you hack yourself with an axe, it will damage it but it wont damage your hand. Also always use padded gloves with it.

    In ancient times, In Russia, leather is boiled in milk until it becomes as hard as metal. Use as part of a laminated armor with hemp cord fabric (whose seeds was imported from China) soaked in boiling sap resins from trees and placed between layers of almost metal hard and tough leather and allowed to properly cure and then used with thickened dense riveted chain mail armor between the solid armor components as the flexible joints with flexible leather-hemp cord fabric in between and using the same thickened dense riveted chain mail armor with the tightly cross stitched flexible leather-hemp cord fabric underneath the gloves so as to handle their weapons with small hexagonal plates made out of laminated armor with hemp cord fabric (whose seeds was imported from China) soaked in boiling sap resins from trees. Expensive and time consuming but the Russian tribes and prince controlled areas in earlier times who are prudent and wise enough, invested a lot in such armor for their men and made sure they are properly treated and properly stored protectively from deterioration when not in use. Combined with good military knowledge and experience and flexibility in tactics and strategies while maintaining an objective, they usually won.

    • @mellnasha2793
      @mellnasha2793 5 лет назад

      Or just use padded linnen and you'l get the same effect...
      Also in the old times, you wouldn't make armors with only leather as it would need to kill a cow for average which was quite costly.

    I have got to buy some of those. I walked into a protruding steel sheet and it hit the back of my hand and left quite a nice dent and I lost feeling in my middle finger for 10-15 days from the first 4 days I started to get feeling back in the area that was numb but I never thought it was serious honestly I wasn't worried because only the side was numb bothersome yes but not terrible. And now it's back to normal completely. It's strange how denting a tendon is far less severe than cutting one all the way. I rubbed and rubbed it every night hoping I would get 100% feeling back. That was the first time I ever experienced that kind of injury. To be clear numbness is a nuscience for a hand injury. Anyone else with that type of injury I highly reccomend not neglecting it, but do as much as you can with ice and massaging the affected area ALOT.

    This is not an accurate example of what a mesh glove is used for! Please get facts straight. A mesh glove is not only for cut protection but mainly for STAB PROTECTION. This is why the ring mesh is only 3-4mm rings, to stop the blade tip puncturing the skin. It is not used on the hand that holds the knife as it would be too difficult and slippery holding the wooden or plastic handle, your dominant hand or "knife hand" must have a Kevlar or Spectra (cut level 5+) cut resistant glove on it to prevent cut or run-on injuries (where the hand slips off the handle when hitting bone or the bench top) This looks and feels like a cotton glove. The Mesh glove is to be worn on your non-knife hand, when cutting meat or handling knives, it prevents you stabbing your opposite/non-dominant hand. I have sold mesh aprons, baleros and tunics and shoulder length gloves for over 10 years and they are to prevent stab wounds, not cut wounds. Hope that helps :)

    • @artheen4713
      @artheen4713 7 лет назад +3

      The tip of a Mora knife will pierce the wide mesh (meat processing standard) of this glove. Believe me; I have two nicks on my left index finger that proves this. It's great for slash protection, though.

      Unfortunately, the mesh on this glove separates enough for a knife tip to go through and pierce skin enough to bleed. I have two nicks on my left index finger that I got last night. It's cut resistant, but not very pierce resistant. If using a sheep's foot blade, you'll be fine.

    • @mellnasha2793
      @mellnasha2793 5 лет назад

      Its only circular chainmail so it will pierce it.
