- Tigercat 632E skidder working. Check out one of the largest skidders in the world hauling huge loads of poplar and spruce logs in Alberta. It is neat seeing the operator sitting facing backwards most of the time.
I was also impressed with the capacity of the machine, how he could lift the whole drag & move the tips onto the deck. I would have made the video longer, but I was supposed to be HOME WORKING!!

They sure are. I couldn't believe how much he could lift when he was piling it sideways. There had to be close to 20 tons of logs in that one drag.
Haha.. one drag with that would take me about half a day with my little tree farmer.. It is kind of funny to watch
That's what I was thinking. He had to be pulling close to 20 tons. Crazy. Pretty slick stacking the tips in like that too.

That's a big grapple hey? Probably opens up somewhere like 12 feet. Huge anyway. I couldn't believe how much he could carry.
Chains like that usually they're put on with a machine I've got a couple sets of those, but have never messed around with them much.

Would be a fun job for sure. But I’m sure that it does become a job. But the operator probably runs other equipment as well. Do many people run forwarders where you are. I’ve seen them operating in New Hampshire. When we were still allowed to go across the border for vacation.

There's forwarders around, but I'm not clear on when or why. I think access is the determining factor. If you can build a cheap frozen road into the logs and load directly onto trucks it's less handling.
I think that operators can run several different machines, but end up settling into one. Probably sometimes by choice, other times by necessity.
I'll send a text to the operator and see if he's got any more input on the topic.
Is the poplar used for osb board? Cool machines the skidder nothing but power and torque, still quite a bit of snow in northern Alberta
Yup. That's where it's going is to an OSB plant about 100 km from the cut block. I took the video a few weeks ago & the snow is melting now.. the fields north of me a couple miles look pretty much bare now, but my own place has trees to the west (I'm guessing that's the reason - being protection from prevailing west wind) and they are still completely covered just like my own front yard. No bare spots at all yet, and we didn't have much snow this year. there will be almost no run off water.
Ah yes” the smell of the bush” too bad not everyone gets to experience it.
Isn't that the truth hey? There's tons of good smells in the world that take you straight back to somewhere. Sometimes it's a specific memory, or location, but there's a few that almost feel like home.
I gess so. Fitting name tiger cat.
Cool hey? Certainly not a name that makes you imagine a weak and small machine.
