- No need for dongles or additional add ons, you can get paid by using the NFC on your iPhone! You can accept contactless cards or from another phone with ApplePay or GooglePay
You can also get your own Square Merchant account here: sovrn.co/1wo22qx

Thank you! Works fine on my iPhone SE (2nd gen) iOS version 17.2.1. I had to also update my Square app otherwise it wasn't working. Works great now!
That is SO slick. I've been using Square for years and didn't know this. I just gave it a try. So simple.
If you use the Square device itself, I believe there is less of a processing fee than if you use your iPhone.
how much does processing cost?@@alanbanh
It’s crazy that you’re the only one covering this major +
Thanks for watching! I love this stuff which is why I'm posting! Hope to cover more things like this in the coming weeks, please subscribe and let me know if there are any other things you would like me to cover!
@@anatomyoftheswipe Do you know android users can do the same?
@@Chrisangel2000 Unfortunately this capability is not available on Android. I also haven't found any news that this is really a priority for Android either unfortunately.
Thanks for the vid! Looking to try this with my biz!!! 😊
I think it’s not available on the square app in Canada. Is it?
There are still issues with getting with tap to pay cards to actually work even though they have nfc technology to work. It’s a hit or miss when it works. Using Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google pay works seamlessly though.
You can always send them invoices as a back up!
@@martinquewillis5736 yes I know but u would think they wouldn’t overlook such a small detail like that. Most people don’t even have their phones set up on Apple Pay. Well most of the older generation at least. They can barely figure out how to use their smartphones
The NFC tag is in the Back of the Phone
Thanks this just help my business out a lot cause I have iPhone 15
I just subscribed to Anatomy of the Swipe! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Hope I don’t let you down with future content!
My Square app just updated to include this feature today. It works great! The only problem is if a customer wants to use a card that doesn’t tap, my plug in Square card swiper no longer works. It shows as being connected in settings but it will not let me swipe the card. I’ve been having to do manual card entry for these customers which sucks bc I know Square charges me a higher percentage for manual entries, it holds up the line, and I have a reader that should be able to swipe but won’t anymore. I haven’t found anyone else online having this issue. Do you know if there’s anything I can do?
Hi there! So some good news for you, is that starting just this year, you can't get any cards produced without the Tap function. But of course as you mentioned, some people just have older cards that don't support it. I'd recommend you to get the Square Reader. You connect this via Bluetooth to your phone, and you can tap on it, and you can also insert the card with chip (its more secure than just using the magnetic stripe, and just about every card has chips at least): www.bestbuy.com/site/square-reader-for-contactless-and-chip-white/5028800.p?skuId=5028800
Same here, but just unplug it and connect it to the charging port again and it should solve the problem, that’s what I did and it works perfect.
Just what I needed to know. Thanks for keeping it short and simple.
This is amazing. Where do the funds go? Do they go into your apple pay account or to square to then be transferred later to you bank account?
The funds get collected by Square and then get sent to your bank account the next business day usually. Glad you think it is amazing too!
Thank yooooou!! Your video was so darn simple and helpful I appreciate this so much🎉🎉🎉
Mat you business continue to be blessed and flourish this year✨🙏🏾
Thank you! Glad it was useful, your comment made my day!
it was working for me now it only says connection failed and i can't reconnect i even deleted and reinstalled the app, can anybody help
How about the fees
What is the minimum charge
You still need a Square Merchant account to do this, and the pricing really is the same as any card swipe, dip, or tap. I believe it is in the range of 2.6% + $0.10 in the US as this is considered an "in-person" transaction. Details here: squareup.com/us/en/pricing
Hi there! Just started a small business i want to try this one. Do i still need to buy the square? Or just download the apps and that’s it? Thank you🙏🏽
You don't need to buy the physical hardware if you want to try this out. The only thing is that if some of your customers don't have Tap enabled on their card, they may not be able to pay you. May want to consider getting the portable card reader at a later point though!
@@anatomyoftheswipe thank you very much. I appreciate your reply🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing!
I was so excited to find this and learn about Tap to Pay and then I find out it currently is only available by Square in the USA. Sad news for this Canadian Square customer.
I believe Canada is on their roadmap, I wouldn't be surprised if Canada becomes enabled later this year.
What version of iOS? I’ve tried it on two iPhones, one running iOS 15, one iOS 16. I’ve seen others use it, but don’t see it on my devices. Latest update of Square app (6.3).
I was on iOS 16.1 when I did it. Just make sure your bluetooth Square reader is off, and then at the top of the screen you should see a button to enable Tap to Pay.
Does this work.on samsung s22?
No sorry this is for iPhone only.
Thank you!!!
If you go to the Transactions tab and tap the search bar, does it give you the option to use Tap to Pay on iPhone, or do you need to manually type in the number/use an external reader?
At the top of the screen, where it used to say, "Connecting to Card Reader" (Because I have the Bluetooth Square card reader that I previously had connected), there was a button that appeared that said something like, "enable Tap to Pay". Once I clicked that, then tapping of a contactless card or another phone just worked. You don't need an external card reader, and you don't need to type in manually!
@@anatomyoftheswipeThat “enable tap to pay” button doesn’t come up for me…
@@lungolklm6184 Are you on the latest version of iOS? Also, are you in the US? People have said that it only is working in the US for them.
@@anatomyoftheswipe Ah, that might be why. I am in the UK
App name pls😭
It is called the Square Point of Sale App
Thank you! I just followed your instructions, and it worked like a charm!
Didn't it feel like magic? Thank you for giving this a try!
Can not use in Thailand 😢
What if their card doesn’t have the chip for tap?
Sorry those cards don't work on this. Good news is that most newer cards (debit and credit) have NFC on them, and due to chip shortages, it is going to be really hard to find new cards issued without this feature.
This blew my mind today!! So cool!
I don’t say that for me
Hello. It says "connect a reader to swipe" is there a reason why this is happening ? I'm using an xr
At the very top of the screen it will say "Connect a reader to swipe", and then will later say "Press button on Reader to connect" especially if you have a reader that you have used before. Try adding an item as if you are trying to make a sale, and the right below the amount due, there will be big blue button that says "Tap to Pay on iPhone". Once you do that then you will see the starlight animation where you can just hold the contactless card or other iPhone/Android phone to pay.
What if you don't have a card reader, can you still do it as in card can pay on the phone
Great video THX!!! (FYI- there's some very low rumbling throughout your video. Do you know what a high pass filter is? Maybe next time run your audio through that before posting. Just a suggestion. Again, many thanks for the info!!)
Oh thank you for this. This actually was my first video on RUclips, and I was recording via Quicktime video, and had the microphone to my Yeti X USB mic. Did some very basic editing in iMovie and posted. Is a high pass filter something that is in the editing software or something I need to do with the microphone itself? Maybe I didn't have my gain set correctly on the Yeti?
Can u tap to pay with the square in store from ur balance that’s on square ?
This software available in USA only ?
So… can you set this up as a private individual (non-business), say to take a payment for a second hand item you sell, for example?
I think Square still requires you to have some Business identifier but the signup process is pretty simple on Squareup.com. I see a ton of people setting this up for various food fairs, craft fairs etc, so it should be pretty easy to setup for second hand items too!
Not available yet in Canada :(
Any update on this?
the option tap to pay doesnt show up on my iphone do i need to set it up with a terminal first?
Use Zeller. It charges less of a processing fee compared to Square.
Kind of slow though to get approval
I think thats because I have a lip on my iPhone case, I wasn't able to get good contact with the phone. I think it is because the NFC chip is actually on the back of the phone.
what must i do when it says R0,00 maximum per card?
Thank you for this gem
whtat about android how to set it up?
I would assume that this is similar on Android, the issue is that there is a lot of variability in Android hardware and how and where the NFC is located. You may need to enable NFC payments on Android for this option to appear within your Square app. On Apple, since the hardware is standardized, it just works with a simple setup.
Is posible add tip or no
Adding of the tip happens after the tap, and will be on the merchant's device.
Congratulations for your video. But, I already try it to enable this function in my Iphone, but didn't work. The faction tap to pay don't show up in my Iphone. Can you help me out please ?
This is a good trouble shooting guide here. But also, please make sure you have at least iPhone 11 and iOS 15.5: squareup.com/us/en/townsquare/tap-to-pay-iphone
Will it work on iPhone 13?
Yes
When you receive payment does the cash go direct to your square balance or it takes a while
It goes to your square balance and then you should get the money in your business bank account within 2 business days. If you have the Square Merchant card, then you can get access to this money sooner if you need it from a cash flow perspective, but you have to apply for that separately.
This is amazing! Thanks for posting!!!
Brooo ,a mi me da error cuando voy a cobrar ,con tap to pay!!&
so is there a way for any payments on this to be transferred straight to a bank account?
No, it doesn't work that way, it goes to Square first, and then it will deposit it into your connected bank account. It usually takes a day or two.
@@anatomyoftheswipe okay, i’ve waited a few days and not received anything i’ll wait a little linger
@@ossuarys_cage I bet it is because of the 4th holiday. But if you don't get it by tomorrow, you should check the bank account number listed with Square is correct. Its usually pretty quick deposits in the US.
@@anatomyoftheswipe okay
does this only work if you have the square itself connected or can you use it without the square connected?
This is all happening without the Square dongle connected. All you need is your phone!
Sadly this only works in US
Can you set this up regenerate the amount? For example $5 always?
Hi. do you know where we can see tap to pay on iphone in a real shop in NYC?
Basically, anyone with a Square account can do this. So instead of lugging around a Square terminal or card reader attachment, they can just have it enabled directly on their iPhone. I personally haven't seen it used at a shop in NYC, but I have seen people using it to collect donations for various causes.
Mine doesn’t have tap to pay so what should I do?
You need to be on the latest version of the app and also in the US. Can you confirm that? Also, which phone are you using?
@@anatomyoftheswipeit only works in the US?
@@Itstraxxx I believe it also works in Canada now too.
What if the person wants to tip? It doesn’t ask that when they go to tap their card?
I believe the tip screen comes after the tap.
Hi. Nice video. May i ask the tech details of how this works? Like for the card, does it have to have an IC chip? And also, what technology supports this service? (Ex. NFC supports general Apple Pay)
The card being tapped needs to have a Contactless Chip on it (NFC Enabled), or the card needs to be tokenized into either ApplePay or GooglePay. The Merchant needs an iPhone with NFC capability. You then need a Merchant account with Square to run Square's terminal software on the iPhone.
My phone does not offer that option is it because it’s older an 8?
Yes the minimum requirement is iPhone 11 unfortunately: squareup.com/us/en/townsquare/tap-to-pay-iphone
Can u use any IPhone to do this ??
The newer iPhones can support this. I'd say safe bet is iPhone 12 and newer. Check the Square website, they have the various phones that support this.
@@anatomyoftheswipe Thanks for your info
Does this work in every country (I am in the UK)and I have an iPhone XR
Looks like it is only for US right now but I'm sure UK is coming soon!
I am using a 11 pro max and running iOS 16. I keep getting an error trying to set up tap to pay.
Hi did you download the latest version of the Square merchant app? Also, if you have the Square wireless terminal nearby, try turning that off.
Thankkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk you. I thought we tapped the phone to phone, not the actual card lol
Hi David, you can tap a card to the iPhone (as the Square register, like I did in the video), or you can also tap two phones together too. In fact, you can even have an iPhone as the Square register, and accept payment from an Android phone with Google Pay!
Is it possible to setup tap to pay for an interational buisness, like if im based in dubai have a shop in america and want to receive an international tap to pay without a us bank account is that possible.
How about stripe or PayPal or any solution to this it dosent even have to ba tap to pay like could i just send a payment link.
Nice informative vid and would really love a response
For Square, I know it is country specific. What you are proposing would get too much money taken out per transaction just in fx fees. It is best to get a bank account stood up in the country you are providing merchant services in, and then periodically transfer the money to your home account. Have a look at Airwallex or Nium to help you get international bank accounts. Once you get that, then you can stand up a Square terminal with US bank account where you can accept payments in the US.
@@anatomyoftheswipe checked out airwallex and it seems to be the solution to my problem, you said once i have an airwallex account i can standup a square terminal to my us bank account, but would i have to pay taxes in the us then?
@@ibrahibrak4210 Great question, unfortunately I don't know how the taxation would work in this scenario. Might be a good question to ask Airwallex.
Also, have a look at Melio. They can also handle invoicing as well, just not sure if they can connect to international accounts.
Hello! Big fan. I have a iPhone SE 2nd generation and I’m running iOS 16. When I try to do this on the app it dosent come up with pay with phone. The iPhone SE 2 has the same chip as the iPhone 11 so I don’t see why not. It might be that I have to wait for iOS 16.1 and I’m guessing your a developer if so. Will it work? Many thanks
Hi! So it appears that the minimum iOS version is 15.5, so you are already well past that, and Square is suggesting that you use iPhone 11 or above. You are right that the SE 2 has the same chip as the 11, but I wonder if Apple is using cheaper NFC hardware on the SE 2 which is why it doesn't work? It doesn't make much sense to me, but see this link from Square for their official support: squareup.com/us/en/payments/tap-to-pay
Just checking. Square has three different apps that can take payments. I tried, Appointments and Invoice before I tried Square. Square is the one that asked if I wanted to use ApplePay. I never really used the Square App before but will now that it has ApplePay.
Thank you 🙏🏽
Kool!
Thanks for the great info!
What about on Android or Galaxy??
It just came out! Here are the instructions on how to do this on Android! ruclips.net/video/-paf1fZIRUg/видео.html
How to set it up ??
Need to be in the US (although I think it just launched in the UK), and you need to have the latest version of square merchant app, and iOS, and it is just available to you!
Thank you brother.
so easy...thank you so much!
Is this work in Canada ?
It works on Android for right now, but not on iOS. I'm sure that's coming soon!
Great video, cheers!
Thanks!
Are you using iOS 15.5 or iOS 16?
I am on iOS 16
Nice! Are you liking the performance for tapping a card?
@@jasonzhou6437 yes, so I realized that in the video the transaction authorizes a little slow, and that was because of the lip on my iPhone case. Once I remove the case, it is way faster.
Still don't know how to accept apple pay on my android square app. If any one know how .....Thank you.
