- On June 23, 2019 the Opera Fuoco orchestra and soloists, the Tölzer boys choir and guest soloists Andreas Scholl and Laurent Naouri, performed Johann Sebastian Bach's B-minor Mass under the direction of David Stern in the St Thomas church in Leipzig ⛪.
For this performance, the configuration of the chorus in front of the orchestra closely follows the placement Bach regularly used for choral works with instrumental accompaniment during his years as Thomas Cantor, despite some modifications made to the organ loft in the 19th century.

Le 23 juin 2019, l'orchestre et les solistes d'Opera Fuoco, le Chœur de garçons de Tölz et les solistes invités Andreas Scholl et Laurent Naouri ont interprété la Messe en si mineur de Johann Sebastian Bach sous la direction de David Stern dans l'église St Thomas de Leipzig ⛪ .
Le placement du chœur, devant l'orchestre, correspond à celui régulièrement utilisé par Bach dans ses œuvres chorales - accompagnées d'un ensemble instrumental - alors qu'il était Kantor de cette église St Thomas, hormis quelques modifications dues à l'installation de l'orgue au 19e siècle.
Ich stand selbst auf der Empore. Es war der beste Moment meines Lebens.

Andreas Scholl is a delightful, humble person. rare in a great artist. I love his respect for his juniour colleagues, and for the music.

Concordo pienamente: sono veramente grandi, unici, eccezionali, eccelsi. Li ho ascoltati più volte dal vivo: sono una meraviglia. Azzeccatissima la scelta di disporre il coro davanti all'orchestra per far risuonare ancor di più le voci angeliche. In Italia non abbiamo un coro di voci bianche paragonabile a questo.

That little kid, in front, sings even together with the tenors. He must love Bach, seldom seen at kids nowadays with Iphone and tablets.
I saw him in Bachs 248 etc following the trumpets with his lips..
Putting them in front before the orchestra,( as Bach used to do?) is a great idea.
The fact that they feel very relaxed ,not in front of the public but singing from above is also a helper. Thomaners place?

I cannot suppress the feeling that the Tolzer choir enjoys a broader selection procedure. Which is good!
I just wonder if not Tölzer sopranos could have done the soprano solos at least as good as those two moderate female ones.- like the praised "Yniolds" David Wittich and Gregor Hoffmann who were both in the choir to the right....?!
An ingenuous performance of one of Bach´s most lovely works - his last big one. The stunning, fresh choir and the soft, accurate orchestra take us back to what must be very near Bach himself and his concerts in this very churh. Only the sopran and alto soloists fall outside the original production of 1749...

The way you hacked this to pieces with interviews during the instrumental parts is just terrible. Makes this performance impossible to enjoy.
To whoever produced this video: It was quite thoughtless and arrogant of you to put various people talking in the longer instrumental sections of this work -- as if those parts are not worth listening to. For example: The long instrumental fugue immediately after the first 4 measures is one of the highlights of the first movement, and it is ruined.
Its a documentary, not a concert. Just the comment is very interesting.

All the names ( even the Tolzer (!)) are in the beginning of the film.

Die h-moll-Messe ist vielleicht das Großartigste unter Bachs unzähligen Meisterwerken. Warum sind hier nur die Choräle zu hören? Muss das Dazwischengequatsche sein? Musikalisch finde ich es gelungen, nur dass manche Knaben nicht stillstehen können und so eine derartige Unruhe reinbringen, empfinde ich als störend.
Die Tölzer Knaben waren mit großer Hingabe und 100% konzentriert bei der Sache.(Bei Temperaturen von über 30° auf der Empore der Thomaskirche) Die Körperbewegungen sind Ausdruck Ihres musikalischen Nachempfindens und für mich war es eine Freude diese Jungs "bei der Arbeit" zu beobachten. Welche Disziplin und Hingabe es braucht in diesem Alter ein solches monumentales Chorwerk zu erarbeiten ist für 90% Ihrer Altersgenossen schwer vorstellbar. Was diese Jungs hier mit auf den Weg bekommen, werden sie in Ihrem Leben dann für alle gewinnbringend in die Gesellschaft einbringen können. Bei dem Film handelt es sich um eine Dokumentation und keinen Konzertmitschnitt; darum sind die Wortbeiträge ("Dazwischengequatsche") Teil des Films.
I was at this concert, it was really magnificent, no words... The effect from the nave (I was sit in the middle-center) was so clear and powerful, I hope they will continue to adopt this disposition for other concerts. And the boys choir... absolutely wonderful!
