    One thing I look forward to with reasonable reluctance is OPR events and tournaments. I had once been a religious tournament player, (3 to 6 competitive practice games a week and going to every tournament I could find in a month) and I miss pushing myself to become better as a wargamer and competitor. I am reluctant to see that in OPR because it lead to what I consider the biggest force behind absolutely killing my love of 40k as a whole was that exceptional hyper focus on competitive play and endlessly rampant predator practice to focus on changing rules and armies to drive sales at the cost of a fair competition.

      Now that is a conundrum. I agree. The tourney scene is part of what drove 40k (though not all), and I can see that you'd want that aspect of the game, but not the potential of what it could bring. Any idea how to strike a balance?

      @@Good.Nuff.Gaming I think OPR is in a unique position in this regard. While yes the advanced rules are only available through patreon access, beyond expansions they dont make any money off of rule books like their competitors do. If OPR was looking to monetize a tournament scene I think we would be more likely to see them instead release mission packs behind the patreon paywall or requiring players to use OPR official armies. Neither of which I think would actually happen and looking at the overall releases coming out the focus is very much on ensuring there are fun and interesting narrative driven games going on. More realistic I think is community organized events and systems that would officially be adopted by the OPR team over time and made standardized to ensure that community has a baseline for all of their events. I just can't see OPR ever becoming like GW or Privateer Press with their events

      If or when the game gets more popular, the tournament scene will happen anyway. People will always want to play competitively, OPR could easily create a tournament pack that revolves around the current game rather then tailoring the game to fit tournaments

    My story: I've been playing OPR solo at home for over a year. I finally found a group near me. About 8 people. These guys and gals were just absolutely brutally hard-core. Perfect lists and tactics. I never won a single game over 6 months. I'm playing solo at home again. I don't go play with them at anymore.

      That's too bad. There was a place I used to play that had several competitive players, but not quite as bad as your experience.

    Great Episode! In my OPR BatReps, I make a few mistakes all the time, but I have so much fun playing this game. I envy fellow OPR players' tabletop setups. Eventually, I will reach that level of play. I'll keep using the scratch-built terrain. You have a great channel.

      I should have him back on. Maybe do a live build and see how his thought process works with building a competitive list.

    I have wanted to start a channel for a while now. I have the space. I have about 8 others to play. I'm the only one 3d printing and the only one painting. I'm super slow at painting. I finished my first fully painted army this year only because I was off work for 2 months. Would people be interested if the models were not painted?

    • @SquareTableUnion
      @SquareTableUnion Месяц назад +1

      Sure, I've seen a few channels use unpainted models. I personally think it is cool to see a progression of painted stuff. It gives it a personal relatable touch. "Oh look you finally got your tank painted." kind of thing. In the words of Palpatine, "Do It!"

      It depends on your angle. If your going for showing off the tactics, a colored primer coat could be fine.
      Either way hop in!

      If you want to start a channel, you start a channel. Be up front about what you hope to accomplish and where you might fall short, and you'll attract the people who are ok with that.
