- We all know Rob Machado enjoys his Go Fish. But what does he ride when the waves get bigger and more punchy? The Midas. In this video Rob Machado explains how he designed The Midas, and why.

If you're curious about how The Midas relates to The Go fish, it's simple - the Go Fish is fast and skatey in the weak stuff, and the Midas is quick and responsive in the steep stuff.
The Midas does have some fishy hybrid elements in its design though, so its performance on the small end of the wave spectrum is surprising.
Rob enjoys The Midas as a two plus one fin setup, or as a twin fin, when the waves are small, and he likes it with a thruster set when the waves are 4 to 5 foot plus.

Just got the board last week. Surfed it in Austin and worked well. Airline broke the nose on the return trip so need to know where to fix it. So bummed. Fun board!

I was about to buy the go fish or the seaside but I live in Florida and we don’t get good enough waves for it so I just got a fish from my local shop. But I also have a baked potato and it works pretty good for small waves

What is the difference betwen the Midas and the Go Fish, because they are similar models. Like, wave type, how they feel on the wave...

Seriously can't decide between this board and the Seaside.. Need something that can do it all! I just love those fishy style boards, this decision is so tough to make. Advice anyone? Honolua is my home break but we have grab mushy summers too...

Charles Hawk I’ve been surfing this thing here on a 5 9 Midas. Mostly 19th st. Took it out to marine st shore break when the swells were big and it held up good. I’m definitely keeping the board, after a yr of surfing it 3-4 times a week, I think I would like to go to a 5 8 as of now

That is our brand new Firewire thruster set we made with Futures. And Rob actually has them a little bit early. We aren't expecting to have them at surf shops until December.

Want to get one but am not sure about "literage" vs length.....Firewire only talks about volume but what length is the board intended to be ridden in relation to surfers height please? I'm tall but skinny.
This board is probably meant to be ridden a bit shorter than ones height. Especially the more advanced the surfer is. Rob Machado is 5'10'' and he said the board he's riding is 5'5''...
You're lucky. You can go short on this one for ultra- fun. If only we were all tall and skinny. Generally you want to keep this shape at about as long as you are tall or shorter. Okay to go an inch or two longer than height though if needed because the width is brought far back to the wings. If you go three or four inches longer than your height it mostly becomes a cruiser.

I thought you can't ride twinnies as thrusters because of the side fins being placed a little further back or am i mistaken?

Generally, you're right. If you were designing a twin fin from scratch you would not place the two fin boxes in the same position as you would place the front two boxes if you had been designing a thruster from scratch. What lets you get away with riding The Midas as a twin is the wings, and the swallow tail, AND how knifed out and thin the tail is. With that said, most normal surfers (for example not Rob or other pros how can adapt to anything) will enjoy this as a two plus one, or a thruster, as it was initially designed as a two plus one.

I know I can shred the living tar out of this board.but I haven't been able to buy a new board in a long time cuz I'm on a limited income so unless I turn into King Midas .

Machado surfs really good and seems to be Real not fake and STUCK UP LIKE OTHER PEOPLE WHO SURF SO DON'T BE A HATER . KEEP SURFING ROB AND ENJOY THE LIFE YOU ARE BLESSED WITH !!!!!!!!
