Good video. I've used this simplified approach to create very accurate, detailed car models. Extrude the side profile, then trim the block with a cut from the top plane using photos of the real car as guides. You can then use surfaces to cut and refine the shape to the final product. For me, it's somewhat easier to visualize the whole process like an artist carving a sculpture from a block of granite rather than building the model directly from multiple surfaces. Anyway, it's just one more technique in the CAD modeler's toolbox.
