Doesn't really work outside of real firearms, you don't have a lot of room to move the darts around / forward into a chamber before they hit a flywheel etc, plus they have a decent amount of friction keeping them all stuck together
@@brown7583 Ultra is perfectly suited to double stacking because the styrofoam darts wouldn't squish like normal darts. The real problem is that double stacking wouldn't let them get the fire rate they're looking for.
And you would be better buying a Rival Perses. About the same rate of fire (maybe even faster), 50 round hopper, cheaper Rival rounds, and rechargeable battery makes it a better blaster. Also it's old enough you could find one cheap.

Why can I imagine this: Someone's Speed jams and someone sneaks up on them, so they pull out their magazine, point it at the ambusher, and release the lock, spraying out the rest of the mag's darts.
Hasbro made a second type of Ultra magazine and STILL didn't make it double-stacked? So what was the point??? The traditional N-Strike magazine design will happily feed at the 7-8 darts per second that the Speed requires.
I love how it looks, I want a full auto ultra blaster but being incompatible with other ultra mags is an absolute deal Breaker and blows my mind. I’m so horribly disappointed because I was planning on picking one up. Thank you for the review Walcom. You saved me a lot of heart ache.
You know, if you ignore the price, the fact that all the darts and mags are proprietary, even to other blasters in the series, and the lack of tac rails, stock attachments, then maybe this series is OK since it seems to be well built and does some cool things.

I'm a big believer in ultra. I have quite a few ultra blasters. Heck I have 10 of the mags. But that's precisely why I won't be buying one of these. If it took the mags I already had i'd be all over it, but it doesn't, so frick that.
I like plinking toys because they’re fun but when it comes to the point that the performance gets way worse then I start to get pulled away. This one still seems fun though.
Remember the Spampede ecs which came with 3x18 clip mags and a 6 clip mag plus shield and bypod, also the 18 clip mags where obviously compatible with other blasters at that time. Naturally it's gonna be outperformed pretty badly today but still makes you think how much hasbro has changed over the years, into worse... at least in marketing and selling. It almost seems like they don't try anymore to make something actually good.
More compact than I thought it was going to be, and now I'm looking forward to the modding that will happen. That's the thing I like about Ultra blasters, the modding. That and Walcom videos about Nerf Ultra I had a dream of the ultra speed with a Perseus style battery and the Titan drum, and I thought that was a pretty good idea I couldn't make happen.
Thanks Walcom - the thing to remember is that since it shoots "silver bullet" darts - you only need about three seconds of full auto fire timeonce you have the werewolf in your sights. Next Endwar we can add a few werewolves to the undead opposing forces to see if it merits a new flinging approach of 1 second 8 dart burst for three trigger pulls and then go back to a worthy primary😁
Short dart/talon mag conversion for this would be incredible actually... with pusher it shouldn´t even be that hard to do that, hope someone tries it... Of course rewirig for LiPo and upgrade the motors and so on would be necessary too. But if you could also modify the magazine hold thingy in the thumbhole stock to hold two talons... with all of those features that would be nothing short of an amazing SMG primary.

Sounds like it needs a lipo, 3d print more mags, and make a double or triple mag holder attachment expansion of the stock (width wise). Then it'd be pretty viable. It comes off like they wanted to combat the flywheel dzp blaster but forgot this is apples and oranges.
It may not be popular to many stock, but I love the look of that spare mag slot. It gives me Cod Black ops 3 Razorback vibes a little. Hope to see someone make this a half dart shooter that hits 220+ fps
I'll stick with my Ultra Focus, I got it when you mentioned it was on sale last year. I did pickup an additional magazine to place in the stock. All the pluses of the Speed with none of the minuses.
modifying this to fire short darts would take away a lot of it's down sides, and that battery compartment is going to be good for a lipo. So it has some mod potential there, interested to see if kury kafe does something with one

Like, the only magazine incompatibility I know of is from Rival because of newer blasters assuming an extra bit of plastic meant to foil 3rd party compatibility the original magazines don't have, but this is just another level of "why?" (Though maybe there's some mega incompatibilities I don't know about?)
I think the idea of ultra using priority darts and mags is cool, but I don't know the direction of ultra. Elite is standard, Rival is for older humans but what is ultra for?

I bought two of these one for my son and myself. I have just purchased high-speed motors, a 4s 2500mAh battery (fits perfectly in the OEM battery tray) and, a variable dc to dc step down for an analogue select fire. I'll let you know how the blaster responds.
Yes, the blaster has vastly improved. 125-140 fps, 1 - 15 darts per second. The motors spool very quickly and hold rpm under load. The battery lasts about 4 hours with continuous use. The ultra darts are the weak point, the tips tend to separate from the dart body or, the body rips apart.
Nerf really does not give a flying fuck anymore. This and the addition of the Gel ball line is Nerf's absolute commitment to not doing short darts. Such a shame. Edit: the fact that you need to flip the mag in the back in order to quick reload is so stupid. Just flip it the other way...
If Nerf is so obsessed with making new brand lines, they could easily make a series called “Power Surge” or something that features blasters with rechargeable batteries boasting higher performance and possibly some high rof automatic blasters. Maybe even some blue/yellow branded waffle head darts to go along with the line
How hard would it be to hack up that magwell so it takes regular ultra mags? 6C battery tray can fit a nice big Lipo. This thing might be salvageable yet
This would have been even better if it used the original Ultra mag design. Unfortunately, the new design was enough to break the deal with me. I'm honestly HOPING this doesn't stick around fro future blasters, because otherwise I won't be able to use the mags I already have in those ones. Not to mention, it's likely a patented system by now, so forget about aftermarket options...
I am the most happy doing nerf. This will be a good blaster. A kid doesn’t see the bad. They see a toy that can fire SUPER fast!!! Semi auto is fast, and I love nerf. Gonna think about getting it.
I bought the Ultra Speed after watching this video not because I thought it was good but because it was on discount for 50 bucks. Now I can say that it was everything you said and it was kind of underwhelming, for one thing it jams up ALL THE TIME.
I have always loved nerf ultra especially because in Australia, Nerf Ultra blasters shoot the hardest and the darts are WAY more accurate than elite darts. I don't get why people hate Ultra because the darts are still really accurate

I have always loved nerf ultra especially because in Australia, Nerf Ultra blasters shoot the hardest and the darts are WAY more accurate than elite darts. I don't get why people hate Ultra because the darts are still really accurate
