I am 72 and remember the bubble lights with a girl on the box with her lips saying oooh. Merry Christmas to everyone. I am in a nursing home now but have childhood memories. I also have Christmas memories of my late Wife and her family gatherings in SE Ohio.

I live in the UK and when I discovered Christmas bubble lights I really wanted a set. I loved them. I got loads of modern c7 sets of them and now I put them on my Xmas tree. I wanted a set of original Noma ones like the ones in this video to add to my vintage Christmas light collection. In 2011, just before Christmas I was looking on ebay and i found a set of original noma bubble lights. My Dad managed to get them for me for Xmas for £59.00 . I was thrilled. They have a purple tube with them.

I see these bubble lights and I think of my grandparents' Christmas tree back in the early '50s. They always had it decked out in bubble lights. As a kid the lights fascinated me. That was the only tree I ever saw with bubble lights on it and I used to stand and stare at them, they were so interesting to watch and even listen to. Thanks for the memories!

Great to see a set of 'bubble lites' in their original presentation pack! My Dad had a set he used to light our Christmas trees in the early 1950's that I remember so well... many thanks for rekindling the magic they created for our young eyes!

The bubble lights are by far my favorite. I grew up in the South End of Albany NY in the 60's and 70's and just found out from this video that bubble lights were invented there. I remember the first time I saw them being put on the Christmas tree at my best friend's house on Benjamin Street and I've been hooked ever since. I'm glad I came across this video. I believe the old lights and ornaments really carry the Christmas spirit. They reflect times when everyone said "Merry Christmas!" and you wouldn't dare say you were offended by it. Merry Christmas to all!

So happy to discover you...I’ve visited your website too. I hope you are still making these bubble lights. I have my grandma’s Santa, which has a C7 Royallite candle in it, white bottom, red liquid...just stopped working this year. I am looking to replace. Hard to find original for it, and they may also give out, so I am interested in yours and will be looking into that. God Bless you for preserving Christmas history...who’d have thought we’d ever have to “protect” Christmas from going away!! Love your tree too! 🎄

Aunt Leona and uncle Carl ( she pronounced it as Kurl ) always had these on their Christmas tree!! Dad remembers back in the 50s & 60s when they had them. I always begged for us to get a set. When I was in high school I bought a set for mom and dad. Now we have 5 sets between their tree and mine!!!! My niece and nefew love them. Hope they have the same memories when they grow old!! Thanks so much for the history lesson on these lights!!!!!!

I was born in 47 and my brother 43 and Christmas has always been a special time in our family. In fact I think its the best time of the year from the Santa parade to dinner with the family.

Christmas was boring as heck at my mom's and dad's -- just static white lights on the tree and an assortment of cheap homemade decorations that me and my siblings made in elementary school art class. I would see all these other trees at other people's homes with loads of tinsel, colorful antique Polish indent ornaments, bubble lights, blinking colored lights, etc., and I was envious. I would've given anything to have had a tree like that when I was growing up.

Great presentation on bubble lights! You just don't see these around anymore like you used to. I grew up in the 80's and back then we had several sets of the knock off brands. I haven't had a set since i was a child. Growing up just outside of Albany i was surprised when i heard him say they were a local item!!! This year my wife and I are in the market for a few nice modern sets.

Hello, I look forward to seeing your movie, I am the proud owner of a modest collection of early boxed light sets, including four early Noma bubble sets and one nice oil set from Paramount. In my collection I also have several tin C-6 8 light candoliers from Noma, and a nine light Noma wreath with little red bells that spell out Merry- Xmas. I found my first Noma light sets in 1980 at a flea market in Jersey, my father bought them for me, and paid fifty cents each! And the rest is history.

    Hi Mr Utrecht,
I have been there. Nice town. The bubble lights that you had in Holland were mist likely made in England. They were made there starting in about 1948. It would be interesting to know if sets of these lights were made in Holland. The first bubble lights were made in Chicago in 1942. A very limited number, about 68,000. Tom

A couple of months ago, I came across a set of vintage bubble lights in an antique shop. They were only asking $10 for the entire set with original box, so I snapped it up. They were made by the Raylite Electric Corporation in The Bronx. It says you can only string a maximum of 5 strands together. Anything more, and the circuit could blow. Is there any way I can tell what exact year these lights were made?

Interesting upload. The word Christmas is irrelevant really, it will remain a happy holiday no matter what folks call it. The religious element is quite separate from the secular basis and before Christianity came about it was a jovial celebration to cheer everyone up at the turn of the year. There is no reason to feel threatened as long as a realistic view is taken.

    Interesting!
Did 1950's bubble lights have bigger, slower ascending bubbles?
Was it a different ether or just oil added?
New ones have bubbles too small and too fast.
In the 1970s I used them as nightlights.

The most important thing about your presentation is your noting of the attempts to kill Christmas and turn it into a generalized (and desacralized) generic winter holiday. People actuially are taken back when you wish them Merry Christmas. Good for for fighting that trend. And also for the history lesson. It's TRUE the inventors were absolutely effectively robbed of their patent rights. Now it's all chinese stock that burns out in one or two year's use....

This guy looks like the only caliber of individual (millionaire income) that can AFFORD these anymore as "collectors" have driven these bulbs that USED to cost 69 cents each (in the 70's) up to about $8-60.00 each!!! Really SUCKS that a normal-income person can't enjoy them anymore!!!! I have about 25 burnt-out originals that I don't have the heart to pitch as they're fun to look @ & reminisce about when I get out the Christmas decorations & see the ziplock baggies-full of them each year, but even the "bare bulbs", used, taken out of melted ones to "re-build" mine command such a hefty over-inflated price I'll never be able to enjoy them again as I simply can't afford them!

For your information, over the last 10 years there has very definitely been a drive or at least strong trend towards the secularization of the Christmas season which certainly extended to the greeting seasons greetings replacing the spoken term Merry Christmas. I am in New York City, and we noticed this starting with people cautioning you to use seasons greetings due to your not always knowing someone's religious or social beliefs. But once the foot was in the door, more and more the term Christmas was shunned. But now, since the last say 4-5 years there has been a serious push back so your comments are first, well justified and may I say, very welcomed.....
