- South African born Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo joined Smile Breakfast to talk about his the Netflix series Ludik that comes out on the 26th of August. During the interview he touched on his early years in America and told the team about a Hollywood actor who gave him a hard time.

Sounds like he encountered Jean Coke Van Damme.
Hard Target was one hell of an amazing movie back in the old John Woo days. Both Van Damme and Vosloo were amazing in it. It’s crazy what really goes on behind the curtains. Van Damme was diagnosed bipolar so I’m sure that played into this a little.

In terms of face/name recognition, people can recall Van Damme 30 years later but not Vosloo.
While I enjoyed the 'Van Cleef' character, I didn't think he was particularly terrifying. He got all sheepish towards the end and talked about running off to Mexico.
A shame that JVCD acted like such a prick though. I know that in the 90s he had something of a cocaine habit, but generally I didn't know of him being a huge cunt to others like Seagal was and still is.
Bit of fun trivia: at the 1:00 minute mark Arnold refers to JCVD as "bliksem", which is Afrikaans for "bastard". I dunno if Van Damme has grown up but at the height of his popularity he let his fame go to his head, along with all the cocaine he was snorting.
And now that drug abuse is showing up in his face. JC looks like shit while Arnold looks younger than 60

Hard Target is one of those movies where the villains made it beyond amazing. Lance and Arnold were insanely good. Bummer to hear JCVD was like that.

This happened 30 years ago, a lot of young stars back then were cocky and felt that the world revolved around them. But now, with aging, most of them are humble and wiser.
Not really. And no I am NOT judging JCVD. Not long ago he was trying to humiliate the late Jason David Frank in person at a comic con. Evidently JDF was embarrassed that he snapped and pushed Van Damme to a wall and almost a fight started

In 1991 I was 16 years old and watched what has topped my list of "The Worst Movie Ever Made" ever since. That movie was Lionheart. I vowed then and there that I would never watch another movie starring Jean Claude Van Damme. It's a promise I haven't broken.
I like Van Dam but that was uncool even for him. Hopefully he apologized to Vosloo about it

Jean Claude Van Damme is a Legend because of "Blood Sport", "Universal Soldier" and "Time Cop". This South African Guy was a Mummy in a couple of movies.

JCVD has a rough reputation in the business. Not a ton of people feel compelled to cast him these days.

JCVD was absolutely coked up during those years. Still sucks he was an asshole and this wasn't the only time we heard people saying this about him. But more recent reports say that he's become somewhat more humble.

My folks never cared for Jean Claude Van Dam. Now I see why. He has been known for this behavior throughout the years. But what actor isn't without his controversies?
To me, Arnold Voslo is the better actor. He deserves better and more gigs. He is the freaking mummy and dark man. Van Dam is just another lame action star who will never be as badass as Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Van Damme wasn't entirely wrong about the future because all these years later, whose name is the one people know, it's his not Vosloo's.
It depends on what you mean by success. Yes, he is not as famous as JVCD, although he is a better actor than him, but I believe that Vosloo is satisfied with his career. Maybe not in terms of the quality of the movies, but probably in terms of the quantity, he appears in 42 movies and probably made a solid amount of money from them.
And JVCD is not recognizable for his acting.
So let's see. Who ended up using drugs and having a bipolar disorder eventually? Van Damme or Vosloo? Let's see your answer
From what I've seen of Jean Claude Van Dam movies he's a bit of a one trick pony.
Jean Claude Van Meth what a jerk. He's my least favorite actor too.
Always liked jcvd but that's so disgusting and he wasn't without his substance abuse problems. The ego of some actors.
