I can't imagine why he had no competition. Didn't anyone want 2nd or 3rd money if nothing else? Secretariat never scared off all competition. I always liked Bid, I had my picture taken with him.
The crowd booed because Bud Delp didn't run against Winter's Tale in the Marlboro. The booing was mild compared to some of some of insults that were hurled at Delp in the paddock prior to the race. For Delp to say he was "looking forward to running against Winter's Tale" is just obnoxious. Bid was a great horse, but I think most people had had their fill of Bud Delp by the time the horse retired.
Hey, CF my friend. How are ya? Well, I'm baffled as to why the crowd was booing. Something to do with not being able to bet because the other horse couldn't run? Anyway, gorgeous creature, that running machine named Spectacular Bid. Yes? Thanks for this fabulous channel you put here for us. :-)
What I also remember was a couple of weeks later when Spectacular Bid was to run in the Jockey Club Gold Cup against Temperance Hill, and shortly before Marshall Cassidy could announce it that day, a fan in the stand yelled "Spectacular Bid's Scratched!!" from that JCGC, with Cassidy then announcing that and that he had been retired. Is there any video of that JCGC?
No doubt the greatest non-TC winner. Plus he's better than most TC winners. Love him.
It's just a pleasure to watch this horse run. Maybe the greatest thoroughbred ever.
This was so sweet.... :-) Crowd doesn't know how to have fun... They didn't know how lucky there are to see him...
Thanx for uploading this... :-)
Spectacular Bid was the greatest horse I ever saw. Thanks for this video. It so good to see him again.
Unfortunately, 'Bid didn't make it to the 1980 JCGC. This was his final race. He certainly didn't deserve the boos.
Amazing! There are stakes grade 1 winners, that do not run as fast as he did it on this walkover.
I can't imagine why he had no competition.

Is it just me, or are people booing him?
