ikr, thirty seconds in and the music makes me tear up. I've watched this three times with two different YTers and I STILL cry during the ending episode.
I don’t know how many people come back to this series. I’ve always loved it and it’s beautiful story, I rewatched it so many times. I even watched this whole series with my mother, who also fell in love with the game. So many years later, my mother has passed away and this game has become a bittersweet memory. But I won’t forget how we laughed and cried together watching these videos late at night. So thanks for some beautiful memories.
I remember the first time I attempted to watch this series. I only made it to 3 and a half minutes before I got bored. Then, when I saw the 6 million subscriber dedication with the song "Everything's Alright" and I heard how pretty the game was, I came back after a long time had passed since I attempted to watch the series and tried again. This game made me laugh, cry, think, feel, and love. I now beg every single one of my friends to watch the playthrough of this game and am trying to teach myself how to play the piano so I can learn to play "For River"
I want to see Mark get emotional to see a side of his I've never truly seen. I want to see him that way to relate. I want to see him the way to cry with him, and to experience it like he did. Though it may sound wrong, if like to.

Yes its a reference from a story. :3 About a king who gets fooled by two "merchants" saying they can make the most unique fabric to make an outfit for the king that will make him look even more like a king. But the fabric can't be seen by anyone who is stupid. But There was no fabric at all. The king sent a few people to go see the fabric but each person he sent couldn't see the fabric. They didn't want to get in trouble with the king or be known as stupid so they lied and said they did see the fabric. In the end the King himself didn't see the fabric but he too lied and said he saw the fabric. He didn't want anyone to think that him, the King, is stupid. On the day of a parade I think for the King he went out naked. A child had to say that there was no fabric for everyone to see that the merchants were liars. (it was a book I had that was full of a lot of fairy tales. My favorite as a child was The Match Girl. Granted it was a sad story It was my favorite because of the way she went with her grandmother to heaven.)
i know the story very well, i have that among others in the collection known as "Anderson's Fairytales" and personally my favorite story within that book is "The Tinderbox"

I love everything about this game. It's not often you can play a game, then play back through it with a completely new perspective on things. Maybe that's just me.
Becuase you're an emotion wreck with a long life story that covers generations of sadness and trouble, in the last few days you've had time after time when you just cannot contain your misery inside a human body, so you form the ideals of self-loathing inside your mind. This is still my favorite playthrough of marks, don't know why, but this is when I really got into mark and it's been such an amazing journey of watching him for all of these years. This game is amazing hope y'all have a nice day
I remember staying up late one night, three years ago, and experiencing this series for the first time, like I was actually there. I remember crying with markiplier at the final moments of the series. I remember the good times of when I used to see lots of videos like this, watching through this video. I haven’t even seen what markiplier makes currently, but I don’t doubt that I’ll like it too. But I have memories (haha, that’s kind of a major plot point of this game) attached to these videos. Every year or two I get the urge to watch it, hoping I can feel the same things I did on my first watch through. But I wind up disappointing myself when I instead cry because it doesn’t feel like that first watch through, and I know most people forgot this video and this game. And I can’t interact with everyone else like I once did. Truth is I miss it, but I can never restore that place in my heart that these videos filled now that it’s gone again. I hope, to anyone who may be watching this for their first time, that you enjoy this just as much as I did, and that you build fond memories of it like I did. I just look at anything nostalgic like this, and instead of feeling happy and reminiscent, I feel sad. I feel like a part of me has gone. I hope none of you have this feeling on your rewatches. And to markiplier, continue making great videos! Your videos always made me happy!
Keep that head up man. You can’t put a value on such good memories: all of it is invaluable; I love this stuff. I turn on old markiplier to sleep. Everyone has forgotten about this. But I won’t. And you know what. As long as the memory always remains in my head. It’s more than enough. I look back and do smile because I remember the feeling I had. Of course I can’t capture that same feeling. But I can remember being happy and that’s all that matters. Because if you can be happy once, you can be happy again. Idk if ur even active still. But I miss all of that too man. I miss when this first came out and I was so young and I watched this and felt every ounce of emotion. It’s nowhere near the same now. But in the end. I lived it. and that’s awesome. Knowing that I did experience something so great and blissful, it makes me have hope for the future somehow.

seeing the references to river, the clocks not ticking, origami rabbits, other objects that become important overtime make me cry because I know how much they actually mean! I love this game and I am so excited to see the new one coming out in a few months! also, AMAZING soundtrack!

The paintings were basically foreshadowing the next part of the game, which is really cool :)

Markiplier Hey Mark. The story named The Emperors New Clothes is actually written by a famous Danish author and composer named Hans Christian Andersen or H.C Andersen for short. There are actually various sculptures of some of his paper art clippings in bigger cities and there even is a statue of himself and other sculptures based on characters like The Onelegged Tin Soldier. Even his home has become a small attraction to visit if you ever get to Denmark.
--- Aint Watched it --- I have to agree with some of the people here. If Mark goes slow, and gets the story, this will be a great play through. But thats not his style, hes very high energy, and this is a very slow and casual game with great story. But, benefit of the doubt, i haven't watched it yet --- Watched it --- For those of you with doubts, dont have em. Mark gets that this game is a serious one, with some funny moments, and he doesnt try to make jokes out off a serious moment. Hes still the high energy goofball we love, but he does know when to turn it down. Glad he chose to play this game

This is my favourite play through of his. At least my 4th time watching it. Sometimes if I can't sleep I put it on! Such a good story, and falling asleep to the sultry sounds of his voice is enjoyable. :)
This is truly my ultimate comfort let's play to watch; I'm now rewatching it after probably 4 years, when I last watched it and I can't believe how much I still love it! This is the year 2019, time has passed since Mark did this series, even more since the game was released. I'm a grown up, an adult now, but still this game messes with my emotions. It reminds me what's really important in life, friendship and love! The story where someone tries to make someone else's dream come true in their last moments of life, it's a soul tearing, mind shattering, breathtaking story. I'm really glad I came back to watch this series. Thank you Kan "Reives" Gao for this game, thank you Mark for the series.

Ooh, yes, I remember watching a Let's Play of this game before. The last time I watched it I made a mistake of not having a box of tissues with me to cry into, I will not make the mistake this time. Even the intro song made me tear up, it's easily one of the most beautiful soundtracks in a video game, especially when we find out the significance behind it. Markiplier That is a reference to the classic tale of The emperor's new clothes. Its about an emperor who is tricked by two weavers into going out and addressing his public naked. The weavers tricked him by telling him that the fabric used on the new robe they made for him can only be seen by those who are smart enough. The emperor not wanting to feel dumb pretends to see the robe and wears it. The passage picks up where i left off. It's all so was referenced by Disney with the Emperor's new groove movies.
I always read that the clothes could not be seen by those that were smart enough, but only those who didn't lie, or were pure of heart. There's probably a million and one different renditions though, so anything's possible I suppose.

He hires two men who he believed were tailors but were actually swindlers, he commissioned them to make him the finest robes in the kingdom. They pretended to make the robes, but there were no robes he was naked. His ministers couldn't see the clothes but they didn't tell him about the falsehood for fear of being reprimanded, the townspeople played along for that same reason. The lone child was the only one to reveal the falsehood, leaving the arrogant king to be embarrassed because he had been made a fool and was naked in front of the whole town.
Yeah, they told the emperor that only super intelligent people could see such a fine fabric and the people who couldn't were idiots, so no one dared to say they could not see it
The swindlers actually convinced the king and town people that the cloths couldn't be seen by people who were unintelligent or unfit for their jobs. That's why the king didn't say anything at the beginning either.
I've heard a lot of people say good things about To The Moon but I've never looked into it myself. This looks like a beautifully designed game. Especially if it was created on the RPG Maker Engine.
I didn't even realize that mark had played this. I played it (and its sequel) back during the winter holidays, and absolutely sobbed my eyes out. A fic I was reading mentioned the song "everything's alright" so I went to listen that and lo and behold one of the comments mentioned the song being in one of Mark's video so I had to look it up and see if he played it. Now I'm here and ready to cry again.
"The Emperor's New Clothes" was a real-life short story about an emperor who was scammed into paying two con artists to make him a robe from "the finest silk" that could only be perceived by highly intelligent persons. They presented absolute nothingness to him, and when he didn't see a robe, he pretended to be able to see it as to not look foolish. Then he showed the whole kingdom his robe, and they all pretended to see one too. In layman' terms: Some guys told a king they could make him clothes that you could only see if you were smart. They lied and he went up on stage completely naked in front of the whole kingdom.
I heard it differently, I heard that they presented him robes from "the finest special cloth" that could only be seen and felt by a person if they were the best person for their job and when the kid spoke up it was figured out they'd lied because children don't have a job and therefore can not be the wrong person for his job.
i hurd it as a man was absosed with clothes and these 2 men "made" him specile ones with magic cloth and only the ones who belived could see it and really thothing was there just his long jons.and in the honer of the new clothes he had a praid

I remember staying up late one night, three years ago, and experiencing this series for the first time, like I was actually there. I remember crying with markiplier at the final moments of the series. I remember the good times of when I used to see lots of videos like this, watching through this video. I haven’t even seen what markiplier makes currently, but I don’t doubt that I’ll like it too. But I have memories (haha, that’s kind of a major plot point of this game) attached to these videos. Every year or two I get the urge to watch it, hoping I can feel the same things I did on my first watch through. But I wind up disappointing myself when I instead cry because it doesn’t feel like that first watch through, and I know most people forgot this video and this game. And I can’t interact with everyone else like I once did. Truth is I miss it, but I can never restore that place in my heart that these videos filled now that it’s gone again.
I hope, to anyone who may be watching this for their first time, that you enjoy this just as much as I did, and that you build fond memories of it like I did.
I just look at anything nostalgic like this, and instead of feeling happy and reminiscent, I feel sad. I feel like a part of me has gone. I hope none of you have this feeling on your rewatches.
And to markiplier, continue making great videos! Your videos always made me happy!
Keep that head up man. You can’t put a value on such good memories: all of it is invaluable; I love this stuff. I turn on old markiplier to sleep. Everyone has forgotten about this. But I won’t. And you know what. As long as the memory always remains in my head. It’s more than enough. I look back and do smile because I remember the feeling I had. Of course I can’t capture that same feeling. But I can remember being happy and that’s all that matters. Because if you can be happy once, you can be happy again. Idk if ur even active still. But I miss all of that too man. I miss when this first came out and I was so young and I watched this and felt every ounce of emotion. It’s nowhere near the same now. But in the end. I lived it. and that’s awesome. Knowing that I did experience something so great and blissful, it makes me have hope for the future somehow.
It's been six years since this was released and it's still one of my. I really wish one day he'll revisit the series continuing with the sequels.

i always seem to come back to this series. sometimes i don’t have the energy to get into anything new, and i just want to go back to something familiar that i know will make me both laugh and cry. when i first watched this i was in 7th grade. now i’m a freshman in college. crazy how time works, huh?

The paintings were basically foreshadowing the next part of the game, which is really cool :)

Hey Mark. The story named The Emperors New Clothes is actually written by a famous Danish author and composer named Hans Christian Andersen or H.C Andersen for short. There are actually various sculptures of some of his paper art clippings in bigger cities and there even is a statue of himself and other sculptures based on characters like The Onelegged Tin Soldier. Even his home has become a small attraction to visit if you ever get to Denmark.

For those of you with doubts, dont have em. Mark gets that this game is a serious one, with some funny moments, and he doesnt try to make jokes out off a serious moment. Hes still the high energy goofball we love, but he does know when to turn it down. Glad he chose to play this game

This is my favourite play through of his. At least my 4th time watching it. Sometimes if I can't sleep I put it on! Such a good story, and falling asleep to the sultry sounds of his voice is enjoyable. :)

This is truly my ultimate comfort let's play to watch; I'm now rewatching it after probably 4 years, when I last watched it and I can't believe how much I still love it! It's insane how comforting this is for some reason (also, I've been away from Mark's channel for a bit, does anybody know if he's played anything story driven in the last 1 or 2 years?)

This is the year 2019, time has passed since Mark did this series, even more since the game was released. I'm a grown up, an adult now, but still this game messes with my emotions. It reminds me what's really important in life, friendship and love! The story where someone tries to make someone else's dream come true in their last moments of life, it's a soul tearing, mind shattering, breathtaking story. I'm really glad I came back to watch this series. Thank you Kan "Reives" Gao for this game, thank you Mark for the series.

Ooh, yes, I remember watching a Let's Play of this game before. The last time I watched it I made a mistake of not having a box of tissues with me to cry into, I will not make the mistake this time. Even the intro song made me tear up, it's easily one of the most beautiful soundtracks in a video game, especially when we find out the significance behind it.

Markiplier That is a reference to the classic tale of The emperor's new clothes. Its about an emperor who is tricked by two weavers into going out and addressing his public naked. The weavers tricked him by telling him that the fabric used on the new robe they made for him can only be seen by those who are smart enough. The emperor not wanting to feel dumb pretends to see the robe and wears it. The passage picks up where i left off. It's all so was referenced by Disney with the Emperor's new groove movies.
I always read that the clothes could not be seen by those that were smart enough, but only those who didn't lie, or were pure of heart. There's probably a million and one different renditions though, so anything's possible I suppose.
Yeah. It's a "moral of the story" type... well story. Basically because the king cared more about his clothes than he did his people, he made a complete idiot of himself and paid the two false weavers a ton of money.
Oh man.... the nostalgia...... dammit pewds and cry........ the feels are coming back to me.... the tears too.

The Emperor's new clothes by Hans Christian Anderson is a short tale about an emperor who is an arrogant and vain man who cares about nothing but wearing fine clothes. He hires two men who he believed were tailors but were actually swindlers, he commissioned them to make him the finest robes in the kingdom. They pretended to make the robes, but there were no robes he was naked. His ministers couldn't see the clothes but they didn't tell him about the falsehood for fear of being reprimanded, the townspeople played along for that same reason. The lone child was the only one to reveal the falsehood, leaving the arrogant king to be embarrassed because he had been made a fool and was naked in front of the whole town.
Yeah, they told the emperor that only super intelligent people could see such a fine fabric and the people who couldn't were idiots, so no one dared to say they could not see it

The swindlers actually convinced the king and town people that the cloths couldn't be seen by people who were unintelligent or unfit for their jobs. That's why the king didn't say anything at the beginning either.

I didn't even realize that mark had played this. I played it (and its sequel) back during the winter holidays, and absolutely sobbed my eyes out. A fic I was reading mentioned the song "everything's alright" so I went to listen that and lo and behold one of the comments mentioned the song being in one of Mark's video so I had to look it up and see if he played it. Now I'm here and ready to cry again.
"The Emperor's New Clothes" was a real-life short story about an emperor who was scammed into paying two con artists to make him a robe from "the finest silk" that could only be perceived by highly intelligent persons. They presented absolute nothingness to him, and when he didn't see a robe, he pretended to be able to see it as to not look foolish. Then he showed the whole kingdom his robe, and they all pretended to see one too.
In layman' terms: Some guys told a king they could make him clothes that you could only see if you were smart. They lied and he went up on stage completely naked in front of the whole kingdom.
I heard it differently, I heard that they presented him robes from "the finest special cloth" that could only be seen and felt by a person if they were the best person for their job and when the kid spoke up it was figured out they'd lied because children don't have a job and therefore can not be the wrong person for his job.
i hurd it as a man was absosed with clothes and these 2 men "made" him specile ones with magic cloth and only the ones who belived could see it and really thothing was there just his long jons.and in the honer of the new clothes he had a praid
