Hello guys, the original video is actually called "one breath around the world", the free diver is Guillaume Nery, a famous French record holder guy, he comes from Nice in the south of France and it's the city you can see at the beginning and the end. The filming is done by is wife or ex-wife who was also breath holding. Fun fact, all the scene or done with the same suit 2-3 mm, even the under ice part. Thank you for reacting to a free diving video.
The filming was done by someone breath holding?! Genuinely more impressive
@@jenelaina5665 Yes it was ! By his wife :)
Yes it is him and yes his wife did the filming.
Completely an amazing human an his partner who took is breath holding with him.... Mind fully blown by the beauty of his swimming an breath holds... Thanks for sharing this information... ✌🏼💗😊🥰
No shit, it says it on the video. All the info you just said we know it was on the video we just watch. Why did u feel the need to repeat it all?
"The high of DIVE TALK to being on Disney +" now THAT was funny! Great video guys!
He wasn't wearing any weights as far as I can tell, which is also my favorite way to dive. Awesome footage but it should definitely not be called "one breath" considering its clearly multiple breaths in many different locations.
First part where he swims at those rocks is near the coast of japan called Yonaguni...I think. Very strong currents there i am told. That tells me that this swim is recorded at different parts of the world.
Reminds me of free running. I don't think he'd want to hold himself back with gear.
I’m free diver, looking to this 😮like never dive before ❤😅❤
The whales bro .. like who gets that kind of opportunity to get that much footage around that many of them.. that’s a once in a dozen lifetimes experience.. intense , amazing and beautiful
That was so beautiful and artistic I want to see the original video to this
That was amazing absoluteli incredible
These freediver's heartrate must be below 40 bpm or something. Just insanity. I struggle to do a full lap underwater at my local swimming pool. 😂
I want to try free diving but I’m addicted to air.
That's got to be the best underwater video I've ever seen in my entire life.
One of the other crazy things about this video is that in the credits, it says this was filmed on breath hold by Julie Gautier too - there was no scuba equipment on this camerawoman!
Ok, you never react to free diving videos, but when you do, you don't choose the worse ones!!! this was made by Guillaume Nerry, a french ancient free diver in competition and the movies are mainly filmed by his GF who is a quite good free diver from "la Reunion" look for beyonce clip made with Guillaume nerry. by the way, yes the whale are sleeping vertically and those images were done in Mauricius island with the assistance of Hugues Vitry, famous owner of a diving club there. He is a specialist of theses images with whales...
Apart from that, if you ever intend to come over in France to dive, Especially around the "MED", please let me know. I dive almost every weekend in Marseille and the part of the coast between Marseille and Canne is the best place for that. beleive me... we have very large protected areas where fish are kings and in peace... a few wrecks and as the coast is very rocky, many sites with caverns and even a few river caves ougoing in the sea under surface. well enough to dive 10 years. water is between 15°C and 24°C and visibility cand be from 10m to 40m depending on the season (heavy rain in the Rhone Valley can poor the visibility by drainin a lot of sediments. but the best is probably at the end of the summer.
Hope to see you soon in my play garden.
Hi Guys !
This is Guillaume Nery, a very famous French freediver, many times world record holder !
In 2015 he tried to break record again to −129 m, but the judges made a mistake in the calculation and put the mark at -139m, he had big troubles to get back to the surface and suffered to pulmonary edema, he since no longer compete.
You should invite him in your show, he is amazing.
And by the way the filming is by his wife, breath holding too :)
Keep up the great work !
that's sad...did he give up freediving altogether or just competing?
Did the judges have to pay compensation or something for that mistake?
Gus, are you telling me that wasn't you? I was thinking this was you the whole time man what's up 🤣
😂😂😂😂
You know how gymnasts are elegant somehow despite the pure power they are using? This is the water version. Wow.
"Filmed on breath hold, by Julie Gautier"
Absolutely brilliant camera work, even more impressive considering it was also done in apnea!!!
I want a full feature film of just a man silently exploring the oceans. Beautiful
I ran freediving tours with whales in the north of Iceland for a while before deciding to give up due to the high number of whale watching tour boats, so it felt wrong. Mostly had humpback whales in the fjord. 2 experiences I'll never forget, one was during feeding time, I counted 43 whales around. The visibility wasn't great, so could mostly only see shadows but from time to time they would get to a meter or so. Another time I took my father who came in holiday, took him on a snorkel with whales tour. We were tracking this humpback for a good hour (it took a long tine to get close). He was about to go in the water, we thought we were a good 300 Meter away. I have no idea how but I got a weird feeling and told him to hold on a second. He waits, 2 second later where he would have gone in exactly, a humpback breaches with it's mouth wide open 🤣
*8{\* _You listened to your inner 'voice'_ I've never done well with that; Only After, do i understand. [?]
Take many a two trips now, just in case. What a WONDERFUL Job, moment, in life you had! I worked with Insects, Butterflies, Birds & Reptiles, just a smaller world among the Giants you've Seen - and i got to hear.
_really wish i could have shared more with my Dad._ Cheers!
Wow Iuv too swim with whales u lucky guy😃
This was absolutely beautiful!! I would love to one day dive and see the marine life with my own eyes. Watching this brought back so many memories from when I was little and wanted to swim with the sharks. Maybe one day I'll be able too! Thank you Gus and Woody for reacting to this amazing video!💙🦈🐋
He also gave a very interesting TED talk a few years ago.
First of all I'm so excited that you reacted to this, I just recommend it on one of the last videos! 🤩
So here we go:
1. I don't think he's wearing weights at all (looks more like the two parts of his dive suit are layered at the middle)
2. All the filming was done by his wife, while she was also holding her breath! These two people are just amazing. Absolute professionals!
3. Yes, Sperm Whales are actually sleeping that way xD
4. One part that many people love about freediving is the feeling of being absolutely in tune with nature. Learning how far you can push your limits and at the same time feel so calm.
It's a great feeling, to just be underwater, hearing your surroundings, your own heartbeat, not disturbed by noises of breathing.
The tribe that dive for longer than any other peoples have been found to have enlarged spleens. Apparently the size of your spleen can influence how long you can stay underwater without apparatus.
Respect to the videographer.
Hey guys, the humpbacks are just starting to arrive in Hawaii. Jan/Feb/Mar is the best time to see them, I'd recommend where I stay, Maui.
Also, there are freediving classes, but easiest thing is just to go snorkeling off the beach and practice diving and equalizing. One of you may require a weight belt for this :)
As to your points, I generally prefer freediving to SCUBA, and the word I always use is "unincumbered." Freediving is free-ing and FREE: there's no tanks to rent, truck to load, complicated gear to meticulously clean and maintain and lug around. Obviously, SCUBA opens up a lot more options for depth, but in a reef environment it's usually pretty shallow.
SCUBA divers are the semi-trucks of the sea, lumbering slowly along, making a bunch of noise, looking at their instruments and checking their gas. Freediving is slow too, but graceful and quiet and unincumbered. The best free divers I've met can hold their breath for 5 minutes static on the surface, and they will dive down to 80+ feet to spearfish.
Vertical whales are sleeping. I have swum with beluga whales and was an absolutely magical experience.
Gus, there's no way anyone could tell you two apart ever... This is beyond amazing. I'm dizzy from holding my breath a few seconds. 😥😵💫
Me too😢
"Sure, i'll go right through that and hope it comes out somewhere" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Myself and my brother used to love swimming underwater so much, that we would take it in turns to outdo each other with our breath holding - I think we got to 2.5 to 3 minutes in the end. Not long like the big boys and girls but enough to make the lifeguards at the pool think we may be in trouble. It got to the point where we had to tell the guards at the pool we were going to that we would be underwater for a while each time! We were 100's of miles from the sea and the local lakes and rivers were not too clean so just stayed in pools. I think we could manage about 3 lengths of a 25 metre pool when we stopped because my brother was at the end of his breath and got sat on by a fat lady! All fine but we realised the public pool might not be the best place to hold our breath as long as possible!
Woody is correct of course, form and relaxation is everything. Just pulling once and gliding would achieve such a good distance if our form was good and relaxing into it enabled us to hold our breath longer! When he speaks about being at one with the environment etc, it does feel very spiritual gliding around going anywhere you want for as long as you can, even if it is in a pool, you can sit underwater and watch everyone swimming on the surface or diving down for 15 seconds before returning! Of course, anyone can do it as well if you train your lungs and mind to hold onto that breath, you don't need any special equipment or anything, it really takes you back to how early humans must have caught shellfish and fish etc or explored the depths having nothing but their hands, feet and a gulp of air!
It probably helped me when I was thrown from my surfboard once and tumbled over and over! I swam back to the surface but hit the bottom, realising I was upside down I took a few seconds to regain my composure, let out some air and followed the bubbles to the surface! Probably only 10 feet down or so but having paddled for the wave and not having taken a deep breath, was near the end of my air!
I don't know if you missed it boys at the end credits but the lady filming it was also breath holding! Probably made for a purer film without those bubbles and could follow the diver wherever he went with no deco issue!
probably my favorite reaction video! i know you guys do cave diving and all that but my goodness this was spectacular! the different transitions of different worlds with one breathe.... jaw dropping. noticed how he never touched any of the sea creatures, just sat back and let them do their own thing. He blew bubbles out as he resurfaced. This guy and how calm he was around the pod of whales.... incredible. I was just in awe i got to see that as a video let alone the real thing hahaha that would be a once in a life time thing. just so much in this video. I was in awe the whole time!! great video! damn good!! loved this!
I’m a free diver and it’s the most peaceful and amazing thing there’s no rules it’s truly free there are dangers like every other hobby but you have to trust yourself
Truly one of the most mesmerizing videos I've ever seen. Cannot thank you enough for sharing this with us, Gus! Absolutely remarkable production.
What?!? I swore that was Gus the whole time! They look exactly the same in a wet suit! Amazing!
This film is an EXPERIENCE. I love that Woody appreciated the beauty and the man's skill. By the time the whales come up I'm in tears. It's just too beautiful.
hey guys, only recently came accross your channel and was stoked to find this reaction. i am a free diver and thank you for being cool. most people dont really know alot about free diving so are very quick to bad mouth it and call it all kinds of things. i respect the hell out of the scuba community and love talking to anyone who does and sharing stories. where i live in australia there are alot of awesome spots to dive so there is a huge diving community here. but not alot of free divers. so i am frequently asked by divers why i free dive and dont scuba. and you guys hit the nail on the head. the freedom that comes with free diving is like nothing i have ever experienced in my whole life, honestly. but its also the peace that comes with it, its sooooo peaceful guys, sometimes i feel i could fall asleep while having an arvo dive after a day of work haha. and the way it lets you be with the marine life is kind of hard to explain. but i often am joined by dolphins, seals, rays and of course sharks, and its like the calmness and peace i feel makes my body just flow down there and its like they actually enjoy seeing me, sounds nuts i know haha but when woody was talking about a similar thing i couldnt help but smile and think to myself "yes". this was fun to watch you guys react to. cheers
It’s almost like through the divers years of skill building and absolute perfection, he earned this dive with the marine life. The whales were like, hey we got something for ya. Absolute insanity.
You should react to freediver Anna von Boetticher. She’s amazing, freedove in slate mines, under an iceberg and even trained the army.
Watching at almost midnight in Australia 🇦🇺 come diving here in Sydney sometime!
Fish rock cave. South west rocks. New South Wales. I’d love to see their reaction to that place.
You guys always make me laugh so much. I love that your videos are educational. Inspiring me to get certified
Yes, that was sleeping behavior from the whales. Beautiful and kind of eerie. But if I had to sleep in water...I would do it vertically as well.
The part with the whales was oddly relaxing and ethereal. 🐳🐳🎶🎵🎶🏊♂️😊
Gus & Woody, wow, just wow! What an amazing video! This guy is epic! It's like watching a cross between underwater parkour and underwater ballet.
dude I am so hooked on your guys videos and I have no idea why, I dont dive or anything but I just cant stop watching your guys content!
Dudes wearing bikini bottoms over his wet suit wtf!
Looks like he comes out of the Mediterranean Sea at the town of Nice, France in the French Riviera. I went diving there and the visibility was poor and there were very few fish, but the town of Nice is beautiful. I believe the underwater rock structure is maybe in the same vicinity. I suspect the whales might have been shot elsewhere in the world. The free diving video was amazing. It required many takes. No one can hold their breath that long without the danger of loss of consciousness and death from drowning. I have always enjoyed the freedom of skin diving. You feel at one with the environment without encumbering, heavy and bulky equipment. Unfortunately the freedom lasts only as long as you can safely hold your breath and the amount of physical exertion your body allows, but is definitely liberating.
Yes some whales do sleep like this, this is a great video this guy is merman
Well said Woody that was next level. I've never seen anything like that immersive before.
I thought it was a simulation , it was sooo perfect. Now that I know this was a Real Man actually free diving I am speachless!! Incredibly beautiful, gracefull , mind blowing!
Holy sh..! Looks absolutly stunning!
But wtf?? No gloves, barefoot under ice?!? I'm freezing just from watching that!!🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
Sooo next dive talk meet up… sardine run. We can all go dive with whales together. Nothing will get your blood pumping like watching orcas feed while you’re in the water with them.
All I’m thinking during this video, other than being In total awe, is AIR!!! WHEN ARE YOU GONNA BREATHE MY DUDE! 😂
Cool video. But why does dude got a thong on😂
I can't appreciate the quality of the video because I'm just sitting here wondering why this dude has bikini bottoms on
I'm amazed at how long he is down for. And don't tell me this water is not freezing cold. Ridiculous.
Sperm Wales sleep vertically for about 1 to 2 hours. Using spermaceti, a white fluid located in their big nose, they are able to effortlessly stay buoyant while getting rest simultaneously. A cool fact about these whales is that they possess the largest brains in the animal kingdom, being over 8 times larger than the human brain.
I've been watching a lot of swimming with whales vids so YT threw this one into the mix.... I'm subbed to you guys anyway.... This one was next level.... Guillaume's swim with these behemoths of the deep was beyond awesome.... My oh my. Goosebumps. Can I join you guys for a 30 second(!) dive with this guy?
Quoting from an interview he gave....
"Every time I go underwater, it feels like a moment of peace and happiness, whatever the time or the depth. Of course, as an athlete, I like world record attempts or world championship dives. I have prepared for so many hours, days, weeks, months, and you just have one chance to make it perfect. That’s the most challenging part. Freediving is all about relaxation, letting go, but it’s very hard to relax when you know you are about to attempt the deepest dive ever. In the end, the most enjoyable thing is when you can forget about all that, and just focus on the great feeling of gliding in the water."
And that relaxation and freedom was epitomised in this video... That's surely what freediving is about; being at one with this environment... Blew me away....
Whales were just thinking "Thats a funny looking turtle".
Ahhh Guillaume Nery - if you like this one, you might like his older video free diving Dean's Blue Hole ruclips.net/video/uQITWbAaDx0/видео.html
I know nothing about wetsuits or freediving but why does it look like he has panties on the outside of his suit?😅😂
Under water plinths. I dived it 4 years ago. It's at Yonaguni island, Southern Japan. Amazing place.
My anxiety level was topped out watching this. Truly amazing and beautiful production at the same time. .
This comment is copied from user 'Shiva Sinha' on the original video but I feel its important enough to share here:
0:45 Yonaguni Pyramids, Japan
2:16 Barracuda Lake
3:58 Sonnanen Lake, Finland
4:42 Cenote Angelita, Mexico
5:54 Coron, Phillipines
6:30 Davao del Norte’s Sama-Bajau people
6:59 Lake Titicaca
7:04 French Polynesia
10:42 Nice, France
These locations are simply breath taking! (heh heh)
Need to add 1 minute and 18 seconds to every mark because of the introduction the guys are doing on this video.
I enjoy and watch this video every time it pops up! It is amazing every time!
The last beach is in Nice, France, the Plage des Marinieres
Thank you for reacting to this, would have never stumbled upon it otherwise, whole another world. Puts some things into perspective this one.
Now do the one where Guillaume free dives into the world's deepest indoor pool. Gave me horrible anxiety, and I loved it!
Those whales are probably just as interested in him as he is them.
How in the world does that dude hold his breath so long?????
That was amazingly moving. I don’t normally say things like that, but that is the only way I can describe what we just watched.
This video is incredible! I wonder how long he stays underwater at a time?
Me and my husband give 100% to the cameraman
Huh I don't think I ever watched this. Really neat, I love being in the water like that, diving down, hanging out. I can't stay down for nearly that long, but it's my favorite place to be for sure. I think you can really see how he enters the water in the ice section at 6:08. They cut a triangle because it's really strong at the corners, so you can stand there and jump clean into the middle. Also gives you some support to pull yourself out.
Can you guys do a reaction to the video "no mount cave diving in wisconsin''? That video is so stress inducing and I'm sure people would love to hear your reaction about it!
Yes
@@s.m.1328 😂😂 I remember watching the video years ago and it instilled anxiety in me so bad that I never forgot it. I've been waiting for a long time to hear dive talk react to it
🛸 It's not the structure it's the guy that's a alien how els do you hold your breath that long definitely 👽
Perfect and inspiring way to start the morning...Just being with the water..LOVE you all. 🌊🌊
I couldn't get past his funny thong thing.
I’m trying to learn to freedive and this video is precisely why. I already absolutely adore scuba diving but being able to freedive would be incredible.
Also, I want to see Gus freedive now!
Does the black thong on his suit have weight in it? 😂
Beautiful video!
Weights in freediving are only used to counteract the positive buoyancy of the air in our lungs (and anything else with buoyancy like a camera, suit or body fat). Technically, you don't neeed weights to freedive if you're an efficient enough swimmer.
The amount of weight you'd use depends on the type of freediving activity. If you're spearfishing or doing something like in the video where you'd want to stay at the bottom for a while, you'd want to be much more heavily weighted than if the objective was to just swim straight to a depth and right back like in constant weight apnea. That said, Boyle's law also comes into play, so, if you're planning on going deeper, you'd need less weight.
It's ditchable for obvious reasons... in case you're in an emergency situation and the weight is holding you (or your rescuer) back.
Looks like Croatia maybe? Woody I feel your awe! It truly was so beautiful there aren't words for it! And did anyone notice the whale calf nursing on his mother? Wow
Also those Whales are mega loud. Or so I have heard.
one of my MOST FAVORITE video's I watch it every couple of months. And the video editing is perfect. One day I will take some freediving lessons.
Why does his wetsuit have a g-string on it?
New fear unlocked.
I've been watching all kind of diving videos, even some freedivers, for a while now and it was always relaxing and I love it. But for some reason this video filled me with anxiety.
At first everything seemed normal, great underwater environment, impressive form and so on. But then longer he appeared to be diving on one breath the more anxious I became. When he swam up through that sun beam and instantly down again my brain had no trouble supplementing the breathing. But what broke my brain and skyrocketed my anxiety was the ice-hole/underwater-fog transition. I KNOW those were completly different environments, but my brain could not compute that for some reason. I actually had to end the video at that point.
Huh, never knew my brain doesn't appreciate the idea of drowning.
something is off with the audio on this video
That was mesmerizing…
And yes, there’s great cave diving spots in France ! Come see us !
Simply amazing. No words to descrie the beaty of the video. Thank you guys for sharing this stunning video. A side note, he emerged on beach front in Nice France.
This video made me tear up a little and want to start learning freediving again ❤
This is such an awesome video guys!! The eerie atmosphere, the sounds of the whales and the emptiness are so overwhelming. Something off-topic: have you heard about the computer game “Subnautica”? It’s an underwater survival game (kind of sci-fi alien style) Would be fun to see you react to it! 😂😎 This video reminded me of some aspects of the game that makes it soo cool!
This is the most pure, most incredible thing I’ve ever seen. I’ll never swim again due to my medical devices unless they find a better way to keep them dry, but this is a true gift seeing it like this.
@S. C. I’ve wanted to consider that, just a huge risk if anything does get in, infection wise so definitely something I’d need to research (and clearly, be trained for!)
@S. C. that’s a brilliant idea - I will work on finding someone because I’d give about anything to be back in the water safely and appropriately
I was so anxious for him the entire time, and I always loved to swim and dive.😂 But he’s on a whole other level. Like a superhero.
He should pronounce theese words undrwater: Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn! Ph'nglui mglw'nfah Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
Extremely beautiful but i feel like im going to FAINT because hes holding his breath for Soo Long!!
I noticed the lack of color/plant life. Have we done this to our ocean? Will it recover! I wish our society could become less stuff hungry and more nature and nurture craving!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Whats with the thong the swimmer is wearing ?
It's called fashion, look it up
I googled that most whales sleep horizontally near the surface.
BUT sperm whales will sleep vertically for about 15 minutes at a time. So those must be sperm whales in the video.
I was going to ask how he breaths until I realized. Really an incredible video, thanks for reacting to it :)
Watching this for the first time, I was mesmerized and teary eyed. Just amazing.
I am 90% sure that the end of the video is located in Nice, France. I could be wrong but im pretty certain its there.
I cannot even find words to describe the sheer beauty of this entire film! The diver, the camera man and the surroundings. Pure awe is all that I felt while watching this❤
What happened to Gus eyes they look different
They were filled with jealousy watching this video
