Tried 4 flash drives and screen blacks out during the verification process during different percentages. Trying to help out a friend and this is why I use Windows!
yeah this is by far the most annoying challenge I've run into with ChromeOS, but not the only. It definitely took some hope, time, and a sprinkling of eye of newt. At the end of the day, I try to remind myself that the chromebook was exactly what it marketed itself as - simple, basics, good for bare necessities when I travel
It was Stable Chrome OS. The version was the last update available for the thinkpad, they discontinued updates after. I would suggest trying multiple different USB sticks/cards - the system was very finicky
@@gldiego You could try buying a bios programmer or raspberry pi, making a backup of the firmware and then flashing firmware for the device you find online and then using recovery media on it
i have a newer chromebook that has chromebook recovery extension on the computer. formatted a 32g usb drive and made a recovery for the broken chromebook. when i insert the usb it verifies info but then stops with an unpected eror just like yours did. I saw you pushing a lot of keys. Could you explain what you did further, is it better to try usb drive or media card. i have already purchased 2 usb drives.
I was basically just checking if I was getting any screen response, and then I put the laptop to sleep. I would stick with the USB drives, not the memory card. Are you using good quality/known brand USBs?
@@MissionTristan I am using SanDisk drives. Would the battery have anything to do with the problem. I purchased a new power supply because my cable was a little frayed at the connector. When I am trying to install the USB I am using the power supply. I don't think battery is holding a charge
No, if you're using a continuous power supply (plugged in) then you wouldn't have any issues in regards to this install. It's just a finicky system. SanDisk should be fine, but it wouldn't hurt to try a different brand @@sandyjensen6733
Hi Anthony, From the "ChromeOS is Missing or Damaged" page you can just insert the usb you loaded the OS onto. It should automatically continue from there. You could also hold Esc+Refresh on the keyboard, then press the Power button to reboot in recovery mode. Or if you meant to download the new OS in the first place, you'll have to go to chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chromebook-recovery-utili/pocpnlppkickgojjlmhdmidojbmbodfm?hl=en on another device. Did one of those cover your question?
This not a solution for those problems - it's a walk through for reinstalling the OS. I would not recommend reinstalling for you because it will permanently delete files
after prepping your usb with chromewebstore.google.com/detail/chromebook-recovery-utili/pocpnlppkickgojjlmhdmidojbmbodfm?pli=1 plug it in and it will start automatically
