They're just listening to comparisons and hate trains without actually enjoying the anime and watching it, understanding it. And if they have, good for them, they have a different opinion on it and that's okay. But Fairytail is the best anime I'll defend with my life besides a few annoying moments.
In regards to character designs Hiro Mashima has said in an interview that there's a reason behind it. He treats his characters as "actors for a role" this way when a design for someone in another series shows up there's a "sense of familiarity" and the reader can ease themselves into it as they're seeing a "familiar face".
I absolutely love Fairy Tail. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But it is fun as all hell, and my best friend is convinced that Mashima perfected the female character design, and I find it incredibly difficult to disagree with him. Also, for a series constantly chastised for its over-sexualization of its female cast, it still treats its female characters better than a lot of other series in the same genre.
As a Fairy Tail fan, I noticed a LOT of details that were off in the summary. Still, this was an extremely funny and entertaining video that I had a ton of fun watching. Subbed.
It's really shounen but it's also different at the same time. A lot of stories in shounen are normally involved around protagonists goals but Natsu don't have big goal. Early arcs are basically for character development and worldbuilding. A lot of the protagonists are normally start as newbies but Natsu already experience wizard. They don't have training arc but they have short training moments. Natsu don't have monologue. Female characters are actually useful. 2 bad arcs you mention are filler arcs.
I've watched Fairy Tail twice, now on my 3rd watch, after I finally caught up to One Piece episodesnand I love both animes, I'd say I prefer One Piece. But Fairy Tail really left me a mark. I love them a ton, I always considered both very similar due to adventure anime with mages/ adventure anime with pirates. Very basic comparison I know. I can't help to love these two animes that have made me cry so many times. My favorite anime is Re:Zero thou. Great video ❤! On my way to the SA2 video now.
This may definitely be a hot take, but I prefer manga over anime simply because it's faster for me to read, say, 500 chapters vs. watching 300 episodes. A lot of times, details get lost in translation as well. The manga is the source material, and mostly will have the authors full intent shown to the reader give or take a rushed arc.
I hateee hate hate the key of the starry sky arc like honestly thats the arc that didnt entertain me at all and i even skipped it during my recent rewatch

I love Fairytail but I also hate it. I like how lots of things about the characters and plot are subtle and you’ll notice it if you pay attention to them enough. But I also think the writing falls flat a lot of the time. Tartaros is generally the best arc though like I need that sh injected into my eyes so I never forget it. Everything about it is just so goooddd, then alvarez came and ruined everything

I think it balances out bc his background characters are super diverse when that's the spot that's normally skimped on

To be fair, infinity clock is anime canon. Hiro helped write it and wanted included in the manga but he didn’t.
