    This was such an informative video! I’ve watched countless videos on hyperpigmentation from dermatologists, but you broke down the 3 steps so simply and actually really helped me to understand it better. Thank you so much!

      So happy you found it helpful! Agree that this is a really complex topic. I started to break it down into an actual skincare routine with specific product recommendations but it got so long- so i'm going to post that as a follow up video. Stay tuned!

      I love that you're thinking about both treatment and prevention. So many people just find themselves chasing spots, but it's so important to be always thinking about both fading dark spots, and preventing new ones from forming! Thx for being here and for taking the deep dive with me :)

    This was a wonderful way of explaining how these patches on my face came about. Very good video. Can’t wait to see how we can treat them especially with in office treatments. I have read about so many things but not all literature takes in to account my olive skin tone. I am latina. Not dark but not fair either and finding something for my skin tone has been impossible. I am currently doing the aerolase laser but not seeing much of a difference.

      So glad you found this helpful, and I completely understand how frustrating it is to tackle dark spots when you have an olive skin tone. It's a delicate balance-- too much irritation can actually lead to MORE dark spots, so it's about gently brightening the spots but in a slow and controlled way. I hope the provider doing your lasers is very experienced with all skin tones- good luck and keep me posted!

      That means so much to me! I know this topic can get so complicated and the textbooks sometimes just make it feel even more overwhelming. Glad you're here!

    The bane of my 50+ year old existence on my face. Tried so many different topical treatments. Best so far is Murad Rapid Dark Spot Correcting Serum. I’ve even asked my Derm about laser. Thanks for the video. It was informative and easy to understand.

      that one has glycolic acid so my patients with sensitive skin often can't use it every day. I recommend tranexamic acid once or twice a day, but AHAs like glycolic often are better tolerated only 2-3x/week. But I'm so glad it works for you!

    Thank you for this. Everything has been drying my face out lately so I can't use any actives. What would you recommend to fix that situation?

    • @DrWhitneyBowe
      @DrWhitneyBowe  11 месяцев назад

      If your skin feels very dry or irritated, then I would hold off on actives and focus on barrier recovery with a gentle, pH balanced cleanser and a hydrating fragrance free, essential oil free moisturizer. I like the La Roche Posay gentle hydrating cleansers and my holy grail in terms of moisturizer is my DWB Beauty Bowe Glowe Cream.

    Hi...being that u are a dermatologist...wat do u reccomend I do?
    I hav mikd acne. Only problem I have that's so difficult...I've used everything & nothing works. Is black spots.
    From the pimples they leave spots. Again I've tried everything.
    Only thing working is a home remedy but that's taking forever to see results.
    Wat do I do?

    Once dark spots are treated with right products they won’t reappear once product is no longer used ? (unless you continue to damage skin correct ?)

    • @DrWhitneyBowe
      @DrWhitneyBowe  11 месяцев назад

      Great question. Pigment can run much deeper than you think with certain spots on the skin, so there may be recurrence if you stop using a product and/or get new sun exposure in that area. I do usually recommend some sort of maintenance schedule for my patients even if their dark spots appear much better initially.

    • @DrWhitneyBowe
      @DrWhitneyBowe  Год назад

      I'm working on more videos that cover both in office procedures and skincare routines. Devices and lasers add another level of complexity. For example, I love fraxel for lentigos (sun spots) but I often discourage my patients with PIH or melasma from using that laser.

    What are your thoughts on microdermabrasion?

    • @DrWhitneyBowe
      @DrWhitneyBowe  11 месяцев назад

      I have seen people develop hyperpigmentation from microdermabrasion- especially if it was performed aggressively. I would be careful in terms of finding someone very gentle/experienced and I would be extra careful if you are prone to hyperpigmentation. With my patient, I Prefer using chemical exfoliants every few nights as part of a skin cycling protocol.
