- All credit to the Midland Railway who put on a brilliant show of railway operations which ran as smoothly as silk. Special thanks to the Railway's "Renaissance Man', Stephen (he does a bit of everything), for allowing Clive and myself into his hallowed domain at Butterley Box.
Locomotives in action were Coronation Pacific 46233 Duchess of Sutherland, Standard 5 73129, Jinty 47327, D1501 and D8048. On view were passenger trains, a goods train of substantial length and a parcels train.
It's certainly the place to go for things Midland.....very interesting and superbly produced Mike.....A line not of often seen...Bob
Thank you so much for a very great video! I have never seen any video from this railway before, so it was really interesting. A really charming railway this one, with a bit crooked and rough rails here and there. Some beautiful shots of the 161 tons Duchess of Sutherland when shunting, just listen to the creak in the rails! :-)
Also very interesting to see no. 73129 with Cossart-valve gear, and of course the charming little "Whithead" saddle tank engine!
Greetings from Norway! :-)
Excellent video, really enjoyed watching. As someone previously commented, has really put the Midland railway centre on the map, will have to visit some day in the not too distant future! Thanks for sharing the video!
Wow D1501 Gateshead has really got around a lot of places. Nice gala, wish this could happen sometime in the future.
Thanks. It was enterprising of them to show so many operating techniques.
Thanks. Unfortunately the Duchess was coupled head to head with the Jinty for some of its runs. I like the crimson lake myself, but I am always happy to see a variety of liveries.
Excellent video and brilliant shots of the Duchess. Is it only me that prefers it in its LMS Red livery?
Great video, I need to visit this place one day as I am a big LMS fan. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Worth a visit on a gala or vintage coaches day.
Funny you should mention it, I'm currently doing a university assessment on Bakewell and the Monsal Trail goes right through. There are rumblings about Peak Rail's next project being to extend to Bakewell,
The station buildings at Bakewell are still intact, although what was the goods yard is now an industrial estate. Derbyshire County Council have protected the trackbed from development in case the funds are raised. :)
47327 looks like someone but cant think who haha.
Thanks. We try to visit at least once a year.
great opportunity to get up close to the Duchess without loads of crowds in the way. They have an interesting collection of stock; even a Unimog, I see. Whitehead is a charming little thing, isn't it.
That blue LMS Fowler Class 3F really looks like the Rev. W. Awdry's second model of Thomas, but without the gold tip to the top of the funnel & without a number 1 on the tank & always light blue.
I was just reading today how 47327 might be repainted in Somerset & Dorset Prussian Blue. That would, I think we can probably agree, be an improvement, wouldn't it.
AndreiTupolev it was painted like that for the seven valley railway Thomas gala
never really paid much attention to the midland railway before but actually looks like a good place to possibly visit. is it worth traveling from essex to visit ? also duchess of sutherland looks great in the green
Thanks. Hope you don't mean that it was a shame you were there to see it!
A Unimog - sounds like something out of Star Wars! Yes, I've seen shots of the Duchess at mainline stations, and Whitehead is a beautiful little engine; a pity we saw only one run.
Thanks. There are a few opportunities as they have several events during the year.
Thanks. We certainly did.
Hi Sam
Apparently you have 'contact lock' set to on, so I couldn't reply to your message directly (why do they try to make life so complicated!). I use Pinnacle 14 Studio Ultimate Collection. It has a few more facilities than the standard version.
Thanks Clive. Maybe you should get your camera looked at if it is only taking monochrome. I don't know why you are telling me your website address when you know that I know it :).
I enjoyed looking at your pictures incidentally!
Thanks. Not sure about my future plans as yet!
Great video, well done, lovely railway
Thanks. Yes it has some good scenery, but somewhat limited for locations.
@@steamontheweb yes it is a lovely railway and has some beautiful countryside but as you say not lot of places to film!
Excellent video Mike. Superb piece of editing as well. I only managed to sneek into shot a couple of times. My photos of the day are now uploaded but this comment box will not allow a direct link....
search google on "evergreen zenfolio"
Strange how all my photos of 47327 have turned out black & white!! I wonder why.
excellent, thanks for your reply.
how do you get there by train from london?
I`m looking for old footage of what is now the Monsal trail if anyone knows of anything?
That would be excellent. Frankly anything would be better!
