"Is this your dog"
Me: no but my young sibling is like that.
I didn't know that I basically followed your steps. My heeler puppy was jnsane when it came to food. So I used to call him over, ask him to sit (never an issue because he saw the food) put it down and said "eat". Every week I extended the time it took for me to say eat, and then the time I left it on the floor before saying the command. Works like a charm.
I was able to teach my dog the third step on his first try
There's moments of messing up, but after I get him back to waiting until I say, "Okay," he does great, even does a trick
Also, my dog is the type to jump and get extremely excited for food
He loves food more then anything
