Simply explained, (and I am not an electrician). Found this very useful.
In the video it is connected to fused test outlet. In a ceiling , you will connect it directly to the lighting circuit, brown being positive and blue being neutral.
thanks for ur time , good video
nice!
You didn't show how the driver was connected to the mains. Was it just a regular plug plugged into a wall socket on the other end of the wires?
Can you please let me know how do we check with the multimeter either transformer electronic or magnetic ? without taking it of from ceiling ?
like this video cos i got most of he info i needed but the LED wires do't matter if they go into 1 or 2 slot?
What if you have a single socket of the halogen on the transfomer?
Very helpful. I have 26 halogens, sigh
its a shame your hand blocks the view of what you are doing, perhaps stand on the other side of the table so the camera has a clear view.
can the 12v led bulb not directly on a 12v halogen transformer?
no, it will flicker or the transformer will blow the led

When connecting lead that goes to the bulb, the driver has a + & - port : I notice you didn’t check which you put in - does it matter ?
I know it matter DC + & DC - for halogen bulbs
Not sure about LED bulbs...look for labelling + & - like most things that definitely need it to be right way round.
...assume not matter since they are probably designed for even the most naive member of public.
Hi, is that a constant current or constant voltage driver?
I have a Constant voltage driver with an output of DC12V, 700mA and a load of 9W max.
Is that okay for the 12v g4 fitting and LED bulb?
does led lights need transformser aswell
The standard voltage is 230V. If your light works on a lower voltage you need to transform it towards that voltage. In this situation he was working with a 12V halogen bulb so he had to transform the voltage down
Brama - Is there a transformer for each of the old Halogen Bulbs or is there one one per room? - thanks man
Depends on how the lights are wired. If they're all on the same circuit without any other devices a single transformer should work. Distance between the lights can effect the brightness though.
Hi,
We bought a house and these lights were half connected but when I measure this transformator it says that both pins of the 12v are connected to each other... Is this normal?
what happens if we get the polarity wrong on the LED drivers for input?
Nothing happens

Hi completely with you but the black wire were does that go the problem I have is two white wires exactly the same so I presume there is a live and neutral and I have to work that out do these wires then connect to 3 core 1.5 if so wot do I do with earth help please aw its in a caravan if that matters again please help
hello,
I want to use a halogen 12v transformer to power 12v led. you say in the video that it should be replaced. why? is led driver really necessary?
Most Halogen transformers require 10 watts or more but a typical LED replacement for a 50 watt halogen is a 7 watts LED bulb, a LV version can use 3 watts or lower which in plenty low enough. The other 43 watts was making all that heat he referenced.
LED drivers and electronic transformers for retrofit LED lighting are not interchangeable.
They differ in output and load compatibility i.e. which LED lights they will work with.
The fundamental difference between the two is that LED drivers output DC while Halogen transformers output 12V AC.
Great video, does every led bulb need it's own transformer?
No, just the circuit.
Hi , I accidently put the input of the transformer into the bulb. It blew out all of the other lights aswell as the one I was working on . Any advice on how to fix it? Cheers
Replace them, when one of these goes you have to replace it.
My 12v halogen bulb burned out. Replace it and as soon as I turn the switch to on, it burned the bulb again. What is going on?
Hi mate, how do I connect multiple lights? is there an LED Driver that allows multiple connections when you unscrew the box? could you show me the pictures of it? Thanks
Kenwin
If the driver has sufficient output power, you can connect multiple leads into the globe side of the transformer. Just connect multiple of the white leads in the video into the same terminals (they should fit).
With older transformers made for halogen globes, they are 60w rated, so often can run many LED globes, due to the much lower power consumption.
I have a question, I bought 7 spotlights for my landscaping, each of them normally consume 50w, I change now the bulbs to LED cosuming only 7.5w, I was expecting to use same transformer total capacity of 120w. For example 7 spotlights x 7.5 = almost 60w, but transformer is not working, is the watt amount coming from the fixture or the.bulb?
It probably can not handle the small load, you need to replace it like this video shows. Most dimmable transformers would work with such a load but yours may not be dimmer compatible and have a limited range. Wattage load is from the bulbs but a dimmer can change the level.
It’s Line and Neutral not Live and Neutral
Musty not be in US where neutral is white a line is black. No blue.
Toriless here in UK brown is live and blue is neutral. I have a feeling most of Europe is that too, but not sure.
When do you need a new LED transformer (when it's broken ofcourse, but what other problems could be the reason for a new transformer)?
If you current one can not handle the low load of the LED bulb. I had three fixtures and one of them died while setting the dimming level, probably the transformer.
i had one transformer for each 50w bulb.....but when i changed to 5w per bulb one of the bulbs began flashing.....I had to lower the transformer output range from 0.5 to 12w to cure it....it worked on that bulb...and the others are ok for now
you need to speak more loud and clear can't really hear you
It will not work.
Please explain. There is usually a "L" and "N' label. I asked the question because I have a batch of transformers that have no labels. www.energysavers.net.au/anchorn-transformer-p-61.html
Please enlighten me. Thank you.
It would be best to contact your provider and ask for a diagram
Thank you very much. It is working. So I must have wired it correctly!
