- They are often the star attraction in major public holiday celebrations and the stuff for movie-like thrills because of their daring and eye-catching maneuvers. But few appreciate that behind the marvel of military jets that will be flying past the presidential dais at the Kenya at 50 celebrations are many hours of training and painstaking planning. Willis Raburu spent time with the Kenya Air Force team in Nanyuki rehearsing for the event and brings you the groundwork preceding the air display.
These guys are all my colleagues I trained with 11 years ago. Good to see you guys. Kodo, Thumbi and very one in the video
I've seen General Francis Ogolla our current CDF. Just watching this after he went down in a helicopter crash. May his soul rip
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭this is the profession that i always desired since i was a kid .i had no one to help me make my dream come ture..when i watch the soldiers i can't hold my tears... I had always dreamt to become a soldier😭😭😭😭one day i believe God in heaven will hear my cry and desire
I have seen Major General Francis Ogola, the current CDF
Congratulations to Kenya's air force from Greece!!
Congratulations from nairobi Kenya
This is so beautiful of you my motherland; i work hard and i do believe that soon i will be in the Team. Thanks Lord
Smart bright and intelligent!!! So happy for you. Be safe up there while we down here send prayers up there past your atmosphere to the almighty.
F-5 is a good Plane. It served the Philippine Air Force For 40 years until 2005. We miss this Jets
We dont need to spend a lot on military hardware; all we need is a good STEM oriented education system to produce our own cutting edge tech.
You tell them bro.
Fine. Wonderful. God bless Kenya
Planes aside..the air force seems quite professional! They inspire confidence, thumbs up!
Its interesting to watch the Kenyan Airforce watching from Israel 🇮🇱❤️ i was born in RHODESIA in SAILSBURY
The U.S. Navy is still flying 36 F5 E/Fs purchased from Switzerland. So F5s are still useful today.
For training but not defending a country
+TheseRightHereBitch It's still important though whether for jet conversion training or light attack aircraft.
+skilled_methodz Can it go against F22, SU-35SM or. S-400?
Who would bring those to this corner of the world?
@@TheseRightHereBitch none of our enemies are even close to that
Such professionalism it's inspiring.
Happy independence Day for kenya 🇰🇪
These guys always give me a thrilling experience

thanks for these show case most of us we just hear of them or just watch them in nyayo studium during celebrations, but we really don`t know anything about our kenyan airforce
Goodstuff...my fave part of jamhuri celebrations 💖💖💖
Nice air force, and motivated people!
Correction Willis Raburu, the white ones are not Bulldogs, they are Grob 120's. . .otherwise, great feature!
Congratulations.

Damn,... that must be thrilling 😁
Anyone saying the F5 is outdated needs to do some research
They can only be used to attack countries with no air defense like Somalia, they can't evade a normal missile leave alone heat seeking ones
Kenya's F-5 Tiger II are more than adequate for its air defense as well as the KDF's COIN operations in Somalia.
Also given Kenya's relatively stable neighborhood and the good relationship it has with its neighbors, the need for newer aircraft isn't necessary. It should focus more on its internal issues of poverty and disease prevention.
Russianman90 the usual Western rhetoric, we will copy the Chinese and build lethal ones!

Kenyan Air Force? You should not really show this to the public ur Air Force is really week next door Ertera have a better air forces
I can see My schoolmate and neighbor Abel Rotich in the F5 formation
na labda ulikuwa class prefect wake
I think that most people here think this the whole inventory of KAF which is completely wrong we have F16's which we acquired recently and it was even a matter of investigation by kenyan parliament defence committee.Only a person whose is not clever will show all is equipment but a smart one will make you think he has nothing and only produce the best in time of war but for a celebration this is what you just get.
But Americans do not keep their jets secret
Daydreamer....these planes we can't even afford them to fly for only 4hrs. The cost of flying for 1 hr is 27,000$.... do your math!!!
Willis Raburu past protected area?😁😁This guy is unstoppable. By the way Hussein Mohammed used to stay in the barracks back then in his youths when his father served in the Kenya Air Force, Moi Air Base!!
very organised, very impressive
Wololo!!! GOOD TO SEE MY PATCH CLASSMATE MAKING IT TO BE A PILOT 5:25... BIG UP KYALO!!!!
which patcherian is that???
instead of buying. we should take advantage of peace time and build our own military industrial complex
Instead of building weapons why not start learning about love and peace?
Daniel Lebron peace is boring
+Gad Apollo you are a devil's worshipper
Daniel Lebron if you want peace prepare for war. No point declaring peace if you have nothing to defend it.

The planes are vintage.. i mean like museum kind of planes
wan jau you no idea about these planes.. The F5 are the primary aggressor training aircraft in the united states military and there are still thousands of these units in operation around the world.
@@SPIDERman9051 I just went through US lists of fighter jets and F5 is not one of them.
Singapore and Chile, which are 1st world countries, still have them.

LoL !!!! BTW that's so true Kamonya, I like your sense of homour though.
F5.......not an F9......we are so behind
Very cool!
F5 with modernization is sufficient as there is no threat of war. Money should be invested in infra, healthcare and education.
Kenya cant afford to spend 30 million dollars on one plane like th e su 30mk2 the upgrade of su 27plus the cost of maintenance the f5 meets the need of the airforce for now we are not at war
i agree totally.
Always prepare for war in times of Peace.
We need security too rem who are our neighbors; in any attack you will still complain that the govt is not protecting its citizens, ask your governor at the ground what he has done 🤒
True
We can afford anything if our leaders don’t fuck up every time. Kuiba pesa
Have been there kodos comrades ..laikipia airbase
When did we lose Willis Raburu.
We dont need an airforce upgrade, we need an health care and law enforcement upgrade. after all the funfare, we are still sick and insecure # 50
I AGREE WITH YOUR INSIGHTFUL COMMENT!
you are sick alone we most definitely need the upgrade

Congratulations to Kenya air force and my greetings to willis
I think it's better for our kdf to establish a new force that will be capable of hacking the enemy's communication datas, electronic jamming capabilities,of the enemy, their field commanding stations
Those planes need an upgrade or be replaced by F-15 and F-16 fighter jets and Lockheed C-130 Hercules military cargo planes and a Boeing C-117 Globe master 3.
True!
@@nelsonkiiru7252 the planes are too old. The new ones should be bought in fighting and those old ones to be used in training rookies.
true but there are cheaper and as good alternatives to all but what will the country do with these politicians
I heard that there where f-16 jet's in Kenya waiting assembly
Hey guys we seriously need an upgrade! 1st & 2nd world are up with F16 falcons, F22 Raptors as well as F35 thunderbolts...when are we catching up for heaven's sake???
Emmanuel Kemboi it's useless. We don't even have 'real' enemy and if it's international war USA will help us. That's what United hss been doing for so many years.
Ronnie The arabs can be enemies
Even if we upgrade we won't be able to defend ourselves. We don't have the capital or resources to do so. We better keep our old stuff in good condition and don't wait for the US unless u will pay for their service
Slash the number of MPigs in half and then slash the salaries and allowances of the rest in half and then use the money saved to upgrade our defenses.
kenya has the latest planes ,these are just for show
The brainy pilots. My friends
The f-5 fighter jets is 2nd generation air reconassance fighter jets.these things rely on 20th century air superiority technology and hence are limited.if I would be in the air force , I would develop a new fighter jets which goes beyond the mach 1.4 of the f-5.Trully I am Kenyan and I would love to see my country with a 4th or even 5th gen
They are upgraded they work almost the same as f15 but lack fireworks fool proof for ant missiles.
Nothing behind than Noise Makes......😂😂😂😂
We need bigger jets. Hizo pesa serikali inakulanga should be upgrading.
My God!!! Laughing at what I just saw at 2:15. Kenya yawa we can't afford decent jet fighters? This is 21 century.
We can afford even f-16'S INFACT kENYA WANTED TO BUY 55 OF THEM TO BECOME THE COUNTRY WITH THE 15th largest fleet of F-16s in the world. Israel , Saudi Arabia, and Jordan were to sell kenya their surpluss f-16's but the US congress flatly refused to allow that sale to go on. Yusuf, those are not jets by the way, those are propeller planes on the flight line. The jets involved in this show are f-5 'S WHICH EVEN THOUGH 50 years old, are the primary trainers for the us airforce given the name t-38's. Very agile planes and good for dog fighting. and Nasa also uses them to train its pilots. So be proud of kenya ok?
Blame me for watching a lot of movies :P Still ain't convinced. Kenya needs better jets.
It's not an issue of affording its an issue of cost effectiveness. In the military, you do not buy weapons because you can, you buy them because they are neccesary to the threat at hand. 35 F-5's and a host of some very lethal SAM's are more than enough to counter any air threat short of the North African (yes, even S.A)
siyu313 The same jets that were grounded by the US Pentagon. You know why?
+kenyajin f 16 are shit just like most US weaponry
Nice one wow
Some countries Museums have better planes than these Relics flying around. Nothing to be proud of
Exactly....we should purchase Mig 29s and F16s atleast 10 each
@@user-ds4gs7xl2s for wat purpose. We need better health sector, schools etc. Only failed states are obsessed with weaponry
@@user-ds4gs7xl2s Purchase? Why not make them ourselves?
@@mwafrikahalisi2549 They are too expensive and we don't have the technology to make them. Very few countries like China, USA, Russia, France and the EU have the capability to make them.
@@user-ds4gs7xl2s It is cheaper to make them than buy them for sure. We are not like Saudi Arabia who can afford to buy expensive toys!

That actually is a requirement to be a fighter pilot.
Requirement from where? Us or Russia?
Because when they are not flying,, they are in the tracks representing Kenya abroad.
Incoming UGAF Su-30MK2 @ your 9 o'clock... Coming in weapons hot...repeat weapons hot... Your orders... Stand down and return home ASAP... Do not engage! KAF needs to upgrade it's assets like yesterday...

6 Sukhoi's in one airbase and one FOB versus 35 F-5's (that are also BVR capable) in 8 airbases and numerous FOB's ? that's not even a contest.
7 years later I now see how naive some Kenyans are in the comments and also expect too much
Seriously! A modern airforce with light fighters F-5s constituting the core of the airpower - don't care to know whatever variant they're - this time n age when the rest are talking of stealthy n air superiority 5th generation high performance, maneuverable reliable fighters.
Even uncle Museveni our neighbour operates much superior n modern fighters...We better start asap modernizing n upgrading programs
Gai fafa F5?? Si mnunue ata F15
us congress will not allow that! its not the money. we could buy russian jets like sukhoi 31, 33, 35 etc but maintenance is a headache. we could buy swedish grippens or european fighter jets, but we want the best but us will not sell them to us .
USA has hundreds 0f F5 as a trainer aggressor air craft and also we dont need f15 In this region it will amount to overkill

The aircraft should be in a museum. Bullshit!
regina thomas president omoro capital city moment uganda❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
RIP CDF Ogolla
I'm an aviation enthusiast. I can't help but feel sorry when I see only f5 s forming the bulk of our fighter attack aircraft. our neighbors like Uganda are operating mig 29, and sukhoi 30 already. These are very capable aircraft. f5 cannot maintain air superiority with these jets flying against them. This is so serious that western countries send their pilots to Germany just to learn how to deal with mig 29. It's considered a threat aircraft even by the mighty US air force. Please get serious and arm our air force with better jets :( . It's time to ground f5s
