    In this video, I’ll show you how to knit a classic fisherman's beanie. Some may call them a watch cap or a fisherman’s hat or maybe a toque (if you’re Canadian!)
    Whatever you call it, I’ll show you how to knit this classic hat step-by-step in this tutorial.
    This hat is knit in a beginner-friendly 1x1 rib, and it’s got a sleek decrease that keeps the rib pattern intact.
    This hat can be worn cuffed for a fisherman’s look or un-cuffed for a slouchy feel.
    With two sizes, one for adults and one for babies and toddlers, this hat is perfect for the whole family!
    Please note: The price of the PDF pattern will fluctuate with time to keep up with inflation and the average price of a cup of coffee.

    Made this hat today (didn't buy the pattern). Came out amazingly. I made the hat slightly longer and with 5mm needles instead of 4 mm (finished the last 3 decreases on 4mm dpn - for a flatter top size down on your needles a tip from my aunt).

    This pattern is amazing! I've made two of these already (one in red, one in yellow) and am currently working on a blue one :-) Since I like to double fold my beanies, I knit them to 9 inches in length before I start decreasing. I also found that if you want to upsize or downsize, to do so in sets of 8 stitches, that way the decreases won't be affected!
    Thank you for sharing this pattern!!! :-) ♡

    Hey Sheep and Stitch! I want to give this project a try...
    I watched your video on gauge and I’m curious if it’s the same when working in the round. This project says 35 sts/ 31 rounds = 4”/10cm in 1×1 rib.
    Does this mean I need to knit a whole 4 inch long tube with circular needles/DPNs instead of a the normal square swatch?
    If so... man that’s a lot to knit just to make sure I’ve got gauge😭
    I AM using the recommended yarn and needle size, and it IS a stretchy hat... so maybe can I just skip on the gauge in this situation?
    Any tips would be appreciated! Love your videos!

    Hey the ridge got twisted on my needles. How do I get it all on the same side, please?

    • @sheepandstitch
      @sheepandstitch  Год назад

      Unfortunately there’s no way to untwist it after the fact. Before joining make sure the sts aren’t twisted. I go over this in this knitting in the round video: ruclips.net/video/mO-w_N5CFZk/видео.html

    Well, what if you have a family of 23+ inch head circumpherences? 😬How does more cast on stitches change the decrease formula? I've never knitted in round or even decreased before, only knit scarves and crocheted socks 😕🤷‍♀
    Thank you very much for this beautiful tutorial, and thank you in advance for any reply.
    Ps, I happen to love old 'sailor fashion', if you can say that☺Ds.

      You can cheat a little bit and use yarn that’s a bit thicker!

    Where can I print out the pattern? You say in the video that I can print out the pattern, but I've hunted through the website thousands of times and I still can't find where to print it.

      I wouldn’t recommend this hat for total hat beginners. If you’ve never knit a hat before, start here: ruclips.net/video/DSuecYYS3bw/видео.html

    It's sad that men hats/beanies are mostly done in ribs😭
    I can't embroider/duplicate stitch on them. I can do the rib and stockinette but it looks like a girl's hat by then
    Ah well, this is great to learn either way. Can't turn down new knitting knowledge

    Or you can switch to 9in circulars if you really hate DPNs THAT much

    I’m probably overthinking it, but what does she mean when she says “even” rounds?

    • @sheepandstitch
      @sheepandstitch  2 года назад +1

      Hi! Even rounds means continuing to knit in 1x1 rib without decreasing or increasing. Just keep the stitch count the same and knit on. Hope that makes sense!

    What is the purpose of different cast ons? Long tail cast on is all i know but i dont know why 😭

    • @sheepandstitch
      @sheepandstitch  Год назад +1

      Some cast ons are stretchier (like the German twist cast on) and are better for garments that need stretch (like sock or hat cuffs). Some cast ons are sturdier (cable cast on) while others can be “undone” to reveal a live edge (provisional cast on). The long tail cast on is a great all-purpose cast on, but other cast ons just have other more specific functions. Hope that helps!

    I'm confused. Your hat is a solid color but the instructions call for two colors of yarn??? Am I missing something?

    • @sheepandstitch
      @sheepandstitch  Год назад

      No the blue yarn is for the hat knit in blue. It’s shown in the beginning. One yarn ball for one hat.
