Always love seeing fix it and repair videos. Too many people these days want to throw away and buy new for everything then many of those same people complaining about how we are destroying the earth and protesting against petroleum products and plastic grocery bags.
I bought a set of pans. After a month using it one of them start to peel I disnt know why it was peeling of on the curb side. I was going to throw it away. But I was dissapointed because I just recently bought it. So I decided to do this process from this video. It took me a week to do it with the metal scrubs, Because every day I scrape a little at a time. I didn't want to hurt my hand. It was worth the effort.
I think it would be better if you used electric drill and sander fitting. Much quicker but I admire you for doing it. I hope it's a stainless steel pan and not aluminum
@@jamesharris8583 - Old post, but I'll reply anyway. Aluminum has a tendency to leach miniscule amounts of aluminum into your food, which is then expelled through urine. BUT, cooking acidic and alkaline foods make it much riskier to cook in an aluminum pan. Stainless steel is better. Cast iron is good, but not every meal or you risk iron poisoning.
How did you fix the aluminun shedding problem... Once it's clean, the frying pan continues getting dirty with the rests of the aluminun you scratched...
@@rajeev6806 - Heat small amount of oil, add diced onions and cook, stirring all over the pan, until onions are almost burnt. Dump, cool pan, wash, wash, wash.
I used 80 grit for a small fry pan and didn't sand hard - just simply sanded. It didn't take that long - and the non-stick was not that old or scratched-up. After sanding it all off, use a succession of finer and finer grits until you have it smoothed back out. You can even use tooth PASTE as a buffing cream to get some shine once done.
My non stick pan (PTFE) is 6 years old and used every day. The coating is perfect and it is a charm to clean it. I threw away all steel pots and use only PTFE pots with a thick copper layer. Simply the best technology.
I am still looking into a dremel. Thankfully, the seller pointed out that the one I purchased was for use with a different continent’s electrical system than mine.
you should have used hacks in scrubbing instead of your hand. wrap the scrubbing paper on a flat piece of wood and use it as your scrub instead of holding it as you scrub till your fingers hurt!
I am buying a new pan to replace the old. Wonder where the old ones go? India. Good for them, turning garbage into something useful. I can't keep my nonstick pans for long, so I have finally learned to season them. Hopefully my new one will last much longer.
I have one of those teflon pans with a 25 year gurantee. Hahaha...😢 Was looking what to do with a super well made pan except its spoilt by having teflon. Great video, but I wonder about the harmful effects of the forever chemical teflon and all that dust?
Or...use a grinder with wire wheel and finish it in 2 minutes without the pain. Better yet, don't even buy a non-stick (poison) pan. Buy either cast iron or stainless steel.
Yes, lots of hard work, but it‘s worth it. I myself had a Teflon coated Stainless Steel pan and teflon got damaged. I sandpapered, polished and seasoned the pan. Now it‘s non-stick for lifetime. 😃
UKMumfromthepool A couple tablespoons of salt and the same amount of oil rubbed into the metal for a few minutes and wiped out does a wonderful job. It's how we did it in the restaurant business with aluminum pans we cooked eggs in. Can't wash it though. Washes the salt out of the pores. Just slrink9in a bit of salt and oil and rub around for a minute, wipe it out and heat on stove like cast iron to sterilize it.
I think that the aluminum, now bare, is even more unhealthy than the shedding teflon coating. It will contribute to aluminum related health issues, evident in time. You may not want to re-use the pan now. Recycle it, buy new. This video is a great example of truly giving horrible advice. 👎🏻
@@jamesharris8583 it can leech into food. Not good for kids / ppl w renal impairment. But if u scrub, polish, clean it then season it well on extremely high heat then it won't be an issue anymore

I have a pan that I prefer to use for candy-making as it's quite thick on the bottom and sides. You can imagine what stirring sugar for a couple of decades does to Teflon. I haven't been able to bring myself to throw it out; it wouldn't take much to sand the remaining Teflon away. However, I have no idea what the pan's composition is underneath the coating, and this concerns me when I see such videos.

I have a nice heavy Woc pan that lost a lot of Teflon and I didn’t want to throw it away. I’m glad I saw this. Thanks
How does it hold up cooking food now all that Teflon non stick stuff is all gone?

Drill attachment sander....just a thought ;)
he should be appreciated by saving environment, reuse non recycled trash
here's the real underappreciated comment.
It’s metal it should be melted back down and reused if anything
I tried once!! Ohh my god ! My wrist has swelled.
Oh my God!!!!!
Lots of hard work
Thanks me kaaafi waqt se is idea ka wait kar Rahi thi
I like it when people don't waste stuff. A guy after my own heart.

That looks a lot easier than how I was doing it, thnx for the tip.

No pain no gain...but worthy doing
.Thanx for showing the technique
That is a lot of work, Mr CrazyIndian man. I think I’m just gonna throw mine and buy a new one.
Got to use very fine sandpaper and wet sand to a mirror finish.
Had i seen this earlier i would not have thrown away my old pans. thank you so much.
By the time he finished sanding, his wife came back home with a new pan..
😅😅😅
,😂😂😂😂
readyset .

Amazing. I did not know that could be done. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for your support
We can use these type of utensils.
Good job will sure try thanks
Unless they're warped, then on sensitive food: eggs , fish, pancake type food needing flat surface ! OR
A GLASS TOP STOVE!!😲
Thank you! You just saved my potsticker pan!
How did you fix the aluminun shedding problem... Once it's clean, the frying pan continues getting dirty with the rests of the aluminun you scratched...
It seem doing a long hard way ! is there any faster way of cleaning away the coating ?
can use electric brushing tool to scrap it ?
Electric sander can be used.
You want the fastest? Why don't you sand blast it...
Circular steel brush mount to an electric drill to facilitate the job
I think this is a good idea for old pans. Throwing it away and buying a new one just creates more unnecessary waste.
true
After removing the teflon you should season the pan, like you do with cast iron
How to do it
Generally you apply a very thin coat of oil and then you heat it up.
@@rajeev6806 - Heat small amount of oil, add diced onions and cook, stirring all over the pan, until onions are almost burnt. Dump, cool pan, wash, wash, wash.
Recap: Buy heaviest available grit sandpaper at local hardware store, begin non-stop sanding, six days later you’ll be done.

I think that I will try a wire brush on a drill. I have some heavy duty higher dollar pans with thick aluminum that the Teflon is no good anymore.
Doing that atm. That shit is tight I tell for all who is reading this.
Or an angle grinder. But take care not to create gouges in your pan.

Are you lost?
My hand hurt from watching this. I would just get a new pan.
Use sanding disc
Should be a way to recoating it instead, kind of like coating a leaking roof.
you can use the torch to burn the coating to easy removal
I have a drill and just thought about researching sandpaper drill bits!
you should have used hacks in scrubbing instead of your hand. wrap the scrubbing paper on a flat piece of wood and use it as your scrub instead of holding it as you scrub till your fingers hurt!
you must really love this pan! I'll just get a new one!

get a drill with a spongy buffer pad, attach the sand paper to the buffer pad, faster

Good hand exercise as well!
worth buying ??

Aluminum toxicity risk?
But what to do afterwards.with this

Margit Schendel ...what u use for polish
Not steel. Its look like aluminium
how did you "season" the pan to make it non-stick? this video just removes the coating but like that it can never be used as a non-stick pan again.

what is wrong with bare aluminum as a cook surface? Please forgive my ignorance.
@@jamesharris8583 it can leech into food. Not good for kids / ppl w renal impairment. But if u scrub, polish, clean it then season it well on extremely high heat then it won't be an issue anymore
What if you season it like cast iron?
@@edstar83it won’t matter because the acid created in cooking will break the aluminum down and you’ll end up ingesting it regardless of seasoning.

Good work, watch the Chinese and they show you how to season to make it non-stickla
Use a grinder with wire brush attached !!
Can they be tinned after sanding or even over the Teflon ? Cool tip 👍
MIGHT GO FASTER USING AN ELECTRIC SANDING MACHINE!!
You can use wet & dry paper also.
Lots of hard work much.
Yes
If we remove coating from sand paper then it turns into stainless steel?
Nope. It's still aluminum but you can season it with some grease or lard to make it non stick.
OKAY so how many days did it take to shoot this video & complete the task? I have a few that need attention, but not much time to "waste".
Pain work but gain a lot How long did you take?Reply please. Thanks for the clip.
Tq सो much
heat pan and use iron score to clean. easy on your wrists and elbows!
Ask your maid to clean them carefully.. In return, she will scratch it off..

I think I'll have to do this at a George Foreman Grill that looks like this ... dropping the Teflon.
Can you season aluminium? I'm guessing you can't.
Differently hand pain will b start
Well now it going to rust my friend
Brush with vegetable oil after each use. I would think what would work.
It's freaking aluminium they don't rust.
Soo nice information
In ki coating kharab hojaye to kya dobara polish ho skti ?
Real no hoax but very simple :)
But what about the toxic teflon?
What's the condition of your hand😃😃😃???
Mere nonstick wale qarab pan me zang lagi hai yani wo aluminium nahi hai kya ye tip mai usper use karon?
very nice
Very hard work😩😩😩😩
Lagerahoo.....munna bhai
its really work.
why not sandblast?
4 1/2" angle grinder, and a 120 grit Tiger disc....done deal in about 3.5 minutes...🏁
LMFAO my iq decreased 10 point by watching this...
Hard work
Can I try this on my dhosa tawa
there is some electric tool, which scraps like sand paper, without hurting our fingers.
Brtan dhunay k tar se b clean krsakty hai
Next obligatory step: SEASONING
Any liquid available?
Very good idea. Thank You very much.
