    I’ve said this before, but your knowledge of the TT Circuit is quite impressive considering how long and technical the course is.

    Just a couple of tips from a guy who used to race bikes, and almost went to the TT:
    When you feel or see the rear wheel backing it in, turn slightly opposite (into the direction you see the rear wheel going) and it will stabilize. You can brake when leaned in but it should be rear brake and very light, only use it to change your trajectory through the corner slightly. Also, when you brake hard, I've noticed you aren't pulling out of your tuck. Pulling out of the tuck while braking makes it easier to brake as the weight on the wheels are balanced, and the air pressure on your chest acts as a speed brake like what you'd see on fighter jets when they land. In real life it has the effect of taking some of the stress off your arms as in many cases you're pulling 2-3g's of forward acceleration under brake. Remember, you derive about 94% of your braking force from your front wheel, so having that Cg behind the front tire makes it feel more controllable.

      Trail brake into the corner with the front, leave the rear alone. Sylvain Guintoli won the 2014 WSBK championship and didn't touch the rear brake once. The only people that really need to use rear brake are Moto GP riders.

    You really have to split the brakes ! You will be able to brake in turns ! Braking from front or back makes a huge difference on bikes "!
    "Front rise, rear dives"
    A bike is essentially a double "gyroscope"
    Heavy breaking from front will lock the direction !
    You have to mind that constantly on a bike

      On modern bikes the rear brake is pretty useless on track.
      btw the physics on this game are pretty ridiculous. Especially the weight transfer and traction loss.

      I use both front and rear brakes for heavy braking, it feels better and helps to keep the bike stable (unless your bike has combined braking in which case it's not needed, i still do it because my bike is old and has no electronics :P)

      He said he doesn't have it split because somebody told him that it isn't working right in the game. Other than that I'm with you, combined brakes is basically what we call braking assistance in car racing.

    A trick to use when you're riding a bike, when going around a corner pay attention to the road. If it looks like the road is getting closer, slow down, if it is the remains the same distance, maintain your speed, if it moves away, speed up. Should help with faster but also safe cornering.

    What you say about setting up things before getting to the corner, holds for real bikes too. Mostly because it is very hard to change direction once commited to a corner. Just two things change how hard you can turn: speed and lean angle (angle of contact patch to center of mass) (of course ignoring things like wheel slip). The dangerous part is of course going in a corner too hot, changing the lean angle to tighter for racers is usually not possible because they are already close to the maximum lean angle. Backing off the throttle on a bike shifts all the weight forward, so if you do this too abruptly it can overload the front tire making it break away, but more importantly it does the opposite of what you think. By putting more weight on the front tire it makes the bike stand up, making your turning radius larger, before the bike settles and the radius drops again. You often see these in crash videos where the biker panics when a turn is too tight, then closes the throttle abruptly making the bike stand up sending him straight into a guard rail or worse. The same is true for front brake. Using the rear brake a bit is possible, but too much can of course lose the rear end resulting in a low side (or if the rear brake is suddenly stopped and the wheel gains traction again, a high side).
    tldr; changing radius/direction on a motorcycle is very hard in a turn, thus setting a proper cornering speed (and entry point) is very important.

      Test Drive Unlimited is quite arcadey compared to what I've seen of this game (due to analog control actually making the bikes harder to ride vs keyboard in that particular incarnation of 'driving' powerfull bikes), whereas, without having played it, this game seems more like a graphically more impressive version of SuperBike 2002.

    That’s awesome man. Downloaded and played the game for 15 minutes and was incredibly frustrated, and I actually am a bike rider. It’d be nice if they had incorporated a rewind feature like Ride has. Wreck 2 or 3 times and there’s no hope of catching back up to the other racers. salvador242 if I was you I'd definitely get a deeper look into bikes they are quite astonishing and handling one is nothing like people actually imagine it's like (for example, to turn left you turn the handlebars to the right, it's called countersteering and to understand how that works you have to really get into the physics of a bike and gyroscopes but it's fairly easy) plus the fact that a 25k dollar litre bike will out-accelerate even cars like the P1 or 918 Spyder until it hits redline in 6th and then the cars catch up due to higher top speed obv.

      Couldn't agree more, I've driven for 5 years but just started riding 5 months ago, I think jimmy unintentionally summed up everything I love about riding without having ever done it. I find riding can be so much more satisfying than driving, especially around corners, largely because of the points he made in this.

    its by the way not true that you have to brake in a straight line, the race drivers in real life often brake almost to the apex, but only as much as the tire can handle. its incredibly hard and you need to have a really good sense of whats going on. riding a bike on the edge cant be simulated by no means, its way more complex than a car.

    TT riders use trail braking when entering a corner. Which is when you slowly let off the brakes as you lean into the corner. The further down you get the less you should be braking. At the point when you're fully leaned you should have no brakes on and be ready to roll on the throttle. I'm not very good at explaining but I tried.

  • @WFO612
    @WFO612 6 лет назад

    Your bike slides out like that because of the combined brake set up, if you put the front brake on a trigger and rear on a bumper (maybe turn down the pressure exponent for the rear if you can since it will be either full on or off) then you would be able to apply proper pressure front and rear, along with rider alignment.

    Really interesting to watch you learn the course over time and get used to the bike physics, get ready for the Sidecars because that'll be a whole new style to get used to! Also at Ballaugh you have to go over it 100% upright otherwise ripperino because you land slightly sideways.

    • @fjbh1018
      @fjbh1018 6 лет назад

      Also interesting note is how I've noticed the game doesn't actually name all the corners, even some of the more notable ones such as Ballagarey at 3:22, hopefully the devs will add more later on, makes commentating and learning the track from scratch a bit awkward without it.

  • @BadgerOff32

    Does anyone remember a few years back (maybe during the PS2 era) that you could get a motorbike peripheral that was similar to a steering wheel? Obviously it wasn't a steering wheel, it was handlebars with brake levers and a twist grip throttle that you'd mount on a table or a stand. I actually owned one for a bit, and it was.....alright. Sadly there weren't too many games to use it with though.
    It's a shame that you can't get anything like that anymore. There are so many options when it comes to steering wheel set ups for car games, but nothing when it comes to motorbikes. I guess motorbike games just aren't abundant (or popular) enough to warrant making things like that, but it would be cool if there was something similar these days. I hate racing bikes with a control pad lol. (and the sit-on Isle of Manx TT arcade machine was the best thing ever!)

    • @miabennett1363
      @miabennett1363 6 лет назад

      Ride 2 is in no way more realistic than this. The bikes wheelie more in Ride for sure, but yeah. This game is more realistic.
      In Ride, you can just slam the brakes on (as long as you're upright) and you're going to fine, in the TT game, you cannot do that.
      There's also almost no engine braking in Ride, whereas there's a lot in this. The traction physics in the TT game are not right though, and Ride is a bit closer with that. Nonetheless, Ride is... easy going. I regularly do upper 6:30s on the Nurburgring on Ride 2, and I just could not go that fast on this game. My TT record is 17:42, and that was unbelievably difficult to do. A 6:30 nurburgring lap is not that difficult

    Im basically on the back brake up into third just to take off properly, you also need it to settle the bike alot. for cornering the combined braking might sort of work, but as for real life riding, I'd fall off on a straight! thats literally how important it is.

    I was at the isle of man TT this year and there was a challenge at a festival where you could play a section of the game on a honda 600 and try to get the fastest time. It startet a bit in front of the bungalow and ended after union mills. Best time there was 5:11 for the section. Maybe try that. If anyone was there as well what was your time??

    The 600cc wants to be ridden at high rpm, even in corners. Try being down a gear in the faster corners to keep the tires sticking and keep the rpms in the sweet spot.

    Use spilt brakes instead of combined. That way you can use only the rear when you have the bike leaned over.

  • @arkadyromanov7803
    @arkadyromanov7803 6 лет назад

    Good effort Jimmy considering you're not a bike guy. You've got the basic idea in that preparation before the corner is 90% of it, and you can't really correct mid course. I'll take your word for it that the front and rear separation doesn't work properly, which is a shame, because it makes a big difference. You say you lean the guy forward during acceleration, do you lean backwards during braking? If not, you should try that too (if its correctly modeled, sitting up creates aero drag which is a decent part of braking especially at high speeds). Also, if its modelled correctly in game, you SHOULD be able to brake into corners a little bit. You start with heavy braking in a straight line, and then decrease the amount of brakes you use as you tip it over. If you get a chance, watch a bike racing video (like MotoGP) that has the actual brakes used by the rider showing on an overlay so you can see how much brake they actually use into the corner.

    Seperate breaking and big bikes please. Assists don't really matter on 600's. And clean the hud boy. Body positioning is key. You're already gentle on the throttle and know the course pretty well. Fly on the Suter!

    You should try it in real life. Riding a bike is amazing. I'll be at Road America in two weeks on a liter bike. I just bought a new gopro for footage with gps data. Motorcycles are very inexpensive and depending on the tracks it can be quite cheap. I am doing a good 18 track days this year for 1k. You can't come close to that with a car. It's well worth trying and you would be surprised how much sim racing prepares you for a real track day. I found it odd how you stated you can't brake on a turn in this game. In reality you trail brake almost every fast turn on a bike.

    11:12 there is so much about riding a motorbike competively which doesn't translate well to the virtual environment and I don't see how it could be done without some hybrid mechanical bull/full 6 degrees of freedom flight simulator setup in order to pull the experience off.
    Which is not to say SBK2002, on the PC, with a force feedback joystick, wasn't worth playing and attempting to get good at... and I would expect the same for this game
    The thing to take away is, instead of just doing it, one has to think about the appropiate action for the given situation.
