    Brilliant information. From this I have diagnosed that the relay is defective on my Dads F3. Bypassed using paper clip and it ran spot on. I've ordered a new relay off ebay. Happy days. Thank you

    At last , thanks for the video. I have a 1998 model ran fine when put in storage but after years I came to start her and fuel was pouring out of carbs . Took them off and sonic washed them and also replaced every seal in the carbs also new carb rubbers as the old ones were solid . She was a runner again . Not used just put away in the garage as a runner but now she wont start . Upon trying to start she backfires and that's it . Took the tank off and put a direct fuel feed to carbs and happy days she started so put the tank back on after several start ups and she ran with tank on . All fresh fuel by the way . I could feel the pump pulsing and thought that was it shes good to go ! No shes not having it so bought a new pump just incase it was working independently 😢😢. No shes still dosnt want to play. I've checked all fuses and your explainastion is the best I've seen . Am from England and we have what's called Haynes manual, that rubbish. I have 2 Honda trained mechanics and this has got them stumped . They haven't been to the bike but over the phone we have addressed every possible Avenue apart from bridging the wires as you did . Haynes dosnt show another detail a as for as trouble shooting they are saying valve clearens and other crap not related. I joined a forum and they are all saying the same jobs we have already covered . Shes a 1998 and tidy for roads in this country but yours is mint . Anyway time out I've probably board you enough but thanks last check is bridge wires ! Something am not comfortable doing but you have helped .

      Glad the video was helpful. Yes, try the jumper wire, it’s easy to do. You can also pull the fuel line off at the same time and do a flow test to see how much fuel is getting delivered from the pump.
      If it runs fine when u bypass the pump off a separate fuel supply, then it is likely a problem between the petcock and the pump or filter .
      Assume u checked the petcock
      I assume you changed the filter
      Check the fuel lines too, make sure none have collapsed.
      One caution I would give is this… I use an ultrasonic cleaner too…However, they are not the be be all and end all. In fact there are places in the carb circuits that the UScleaner will not help. I always clean via 3 methods on each set of carbs.
      1) chemical - Use a quality carb cleaner, and let them soak for a day. make sure Andy rubber diaphragms are removed first, and make sure u can see the carb cleaner spray out of all the correct orifices to show they’re clear
      2) mechanical, use a high E guitar string or carb cleaner tools to run through the carb passages etc
      3) ultrasonic with a good cleaner product in it.
      So many times carbs get ultrasonically cleaned and they really are not clean. It happens.

      @true-moto-resto Hi many thanks for your reply, after everything stated in previous message I bought some new plugs and would you believe it she started on the first press . Again put the tank back on but pump was going crazy so swapped the pipes back over that soon sorted the pump . She dodnt like the choke been turned off so again looked in so called Haynes repair manual and still no wiser . Eventually found something on internet saying all the way clockwise then turn back . All this was done yesterday and a check for start up today was good . For new plugs , fuel pump and filter £34 and I bike that's happy. Oh yes and am happy she sounds good . Bought one new in 1998 but got wiped out in 2001 . Fireblades up to buying this to keep my no claims bonus going . They are a good all rounder. Anyway am wittering on . Thanks for you video very helpful. 👍👍

    Under the plastic cover on the end of the pump, there is a set of contact points. When the pressure in the line builds to a certain amount, the points open and turn the pump off. I had one go bad on my 87 Hurricane.

    • @true-moto-resto
      @true-moto-resto  Год назад +1

      Thanks john Yea, the pump seems to be working fine. Pump turns on when pressure is low and turns off when pressure is high . I tested that… pump slows down when bike is idling and will speed up as i rev the bike or if I shut off the fuel tap. But maybe they’re sticking? Is that possible ? Making their function inconsistent? Replacement points are $65 if I need them

    • @johnb5519
      @johnb5519 Год назад

      @@true-moto-resto I didn't know they sold new points for them. Back when it happened to me, I just replaced the pump. The guy at the dealers said he had never ever seen a pump go bad though. Maybe they just need a bit of cleaning or lube on the pivot mechanism.

    • @true-moto-resto

      @@johnb5519 possible, I’m told if they do stick it’s just a sign that they will fail, so I’ll see how it goes, I’m going to test it again shortly

      @@true-moto-resto I had the fuel pump fail on an F1 CBR600. I bypassed the pump completely, by joining the two fuel pipes together. There is enough pressure from the tank alone to feed the carb's on these bikes, I have no idea why Honda fit them.

      Fuel pump points are getting hard to find, But they are available. E b a y. and easy to swap out, 2 screws and one soldered wire. I'm on my third set of points for my 1999 CBR 600. Original pump. 110,000 km. Just replace them yesterday again.
      But I think my cut off relay is bad.That's why i'm here on this video.

    Very Helpful! I just replaced the relay on my 1997 F3 , it would seem the relay is bad ( cheapo amazon unit) Once I bypass it the bike runs like a top. Seems to only be an issue when the bike sits and gets cold, after its warmed up , starts up every time

    I have had three new fuel pumps fail, two cheapies and a $100 quantum fuel pump, on yours it makes the black cap on mine look upside down. On mine the wires come out the bottom and the nipple is on top. I’m pretty sure the OEM looks like this as well. I have brand new r/r, and fuel relay… can you give me some technical asvice

      Unfortunately I do t have their bike anymore, so can’t really give you any point of reference here
      If you follow the same steps as I did (in the factory shop manual online) you should be able to determine it you have a problem with the pump or the relay

    Hi, I bought a fuel pump of Amazon and it won't prime so the air just sits in the fuel lines so not enough gas is getting to the engine so it won't start how can I make the fuel pump prime?

    • @true-moto-resto
      @true-moto-resto  11 месяцев назад +1

      It should prime as soon as you push the starter button or if you jump the relay . Is it possible that the pump is no good? Many of the ones on Amazon are cheaper overseas items.
