  • In this video, I show the process for getting spray foam insulation installed into the exterior walls of our home. For this job, we hired USA Insulation.
The process took about eight hours to complete. During this period, the two installers removed sections of vinyl siding around the entire perimeter of the house. Afterwards, they drilled 2-inch holes every 16 inches so that every cavity between our walls studs would be targeted to receive the spray foam. After the holes were drilled, a hose was inserted into the wall cavities to pump the foam downward and then upward to completely fill all the cavities. Once the foam was pumped, a Styrofoam plug was inserted to help keep the foam in place. After all cavities were filled and capped, the vinyl siding was put back into place to hide the work.
A week later, I can report back that a significant improvement has been noticed with the comfort of our home. All of the draftiness has completely gone away. Our home seems much more comfortable and our furnace seems to cycle on and off less frequently than in the past.
So far, this seems to be a very worthwhile investment of time and money.

In a cold climate you can't go wrong adding insulation imo.

How is that priced, I'm in Cbus and been thinking about it, I have hollow cavities w/o insulation on all walls, also any changes in door/window clearances? Price and swelling are my biggest hold back at this point

They charge based upon square footage. Not exactly cheap, but still a worthwhile expense for the comfort improvements in the winter. Plus, over time, it should pay for itself by lowering my HVAC usage costs.
After all the foam was installed and allowed to cure for a couple days, I did notice a couple tighter doors that are in contact with the outer walls. Nothing crazy, but just tighter than in the past.
