    as a ex door installer....get yourself a couple pusher springs for the rail on top that go at back of the rail to stop the door and help it coming down, always worred and have seen people install a door and then wound springs to tight to have it fly off the top rails at the back. remember too you can take a couple winds out of your springs not jump the door open so much, adding weight will help as well. want to door to sit open about half way with no weight and not spring up...once you get an opener that will help open the rest of the way but excellent job!! love the build!!

      @LonestarHawaiian  Месяц назад +15

      Thank you! Super helpful. I put a couple of long bolts on the back of the track to act as a stopper but I’ll check out the push springs. I may need to unwind these a little.

      @gtpyak Месяц назад +6

      Did you add the struts yet? If you still have 3 or 4 struts to add that may balance the door out, install those before taking a couple quarter turns off of the springs!

    • @matthewpeterson3329
      @matthewpeterson3329 Месяц назад +2

      Yep. And we all know he's gonna add an opener at some point, so taking a turn out of the springs will make the doors weight more neutral for the opener.

      @@LonestarHawaiianthere is no such a going as a pusher spring. In my 15 years doing doors I have only heard that from a customer that just got screwed on a second spring they didn’t need. Put the struts on the door and if it dosnt balance out either you miscounted or they sent you the wrong springs. You did a great job for someone with no previous experience lol

    For some extra weight (not much), and as a bonus, light! On my residential garage door, I mounted led lights underneath and used an electric cord reel with the clicker removed to reel in/out every time the door opens and closes. There's a limit switch mounted to the top where the door opens to engage the light circuit. Mine is controlled by "lady A". Glad to give more details if you'd like

    I started watching you a couple of years ago when I decided to restomod my 2009 Chevy Silverado rather than spending over $100K on a new truck. I have been disconnected for the past year for a myriad of reasons. I saw the early planning stage of your dream shop which as a retired general contractor also interested me. I spent the last 2 days binge watching the process. I am so impressed. Your construction jargon has drastically improved. LOL
    I do have a question about the swing of your man doors. When I was a home builder in the North East we set them as inswing like you did because of snow drifts however here in South Florida we set them as outswing do to windstorms. My question is, what is code in Texas? You have windstorms and no snow. HMMMM?

    Looks great , I did the same one but in a 14x14 with the framed windows but my ceiling is taller so I added the high lift track to get mine closer to the ceiling and I did a side operator. Those springs sure were a workout especially those last few turns . The guy that delivered mine warned me multiple times to stay to the side of the bars because if it slips it could easily kill ya . He said his good buddy/ ex partner got hit in the head with one and is now permanently disabled . Shops looking great and congrats on almost 200k that's awesome!

    Just a little too much tension on the springs in my professional opinion. You shouldn’t have to hold the door like that while it’s opening. It should also stay half way open on its own. And strongly recommend spring bumpers… clopay part# 0121570. For a great operator look into master lift JHDC7S1BMC. Just make sure you get the right sprocket that’ll fit the doors shaft. I believe sectional doors like yours are a one inch bore, I can’t remember at the top of my head right now 😅 anyways, looks nice. Great job for someone with no commercial/garage door experience. 👍🏼
