    It is happening again, for me…the big one.😔I try to tell myself not to care about my sleep but in the middle of the night when I’m nervous, I realize I do care. My sleep confidence IS shaken.

    I’m currently in a big one. Tried to be brave and said yes to travel. It’s backfired majorly. My issue is being ok with wakefulness when I actually feel DREADFUL. I struggle minute by minute to get through my days when it’s this bad which of course exacerbates the whole issue. I’m just not coping at all. Thanks for all you do Daniel, I understand the theory of what you teach and it makes perfect sense but befriending wakefulness is becoming the hardest thing I’ve ever tried ti do.

      Maree, hang in there. I think it was really brave and you know, there’s always much we can learn from.
      When I teach about befriending wakefulness I often emphasize doing something you like to do or even enjoy. This is because it is so counterintuitive and kind of makes you go “aha!”. To turn being awake at night into something enjoyable can really teach the brain that there’s nothing to be afraid of.
      But there is a challenge here. If it seems important to do something that is enjoyable, it can feel like a challenge. Especially when you’re tired and you would like to sleep and you just don’t feel like doing anything in particular.
      Now here is the thing, the whole point with befriending wakefulness is again just to teach the brain that there’s nothing to be afraid of. And you can do this even if you’re not particularly enjoying the night.
      Even when you feel bored or annoyed, you are safe. So you can allow yourself to feel any which way you feel - but still point out to the brain that you are safe. That you are not harmed whatsoever.
      It also doesn’t matter where you are and what you do. Maybe you just want to rest in bed? Maybe you want to have some hot tea and a snack. Again, when you’re not trying to make sleep happen, this is befriending wakefulness.
      This teaching I hope can lead to both taking away any pressure to do something you enjoy but also still teach the brain that being awake is safe and you are not in any danger.
      But more than anything else, self kindness, not being harsh with ourselves saying “that was a bad idea” or things like this… I think it helps more than anything else

    My experience is it’s getting worse! I used to go 3-4 days no sleep then crash, now I’m going 8,9 10 days I’m on right now, I’ve had a little hyper sleep maybe 7 hours total all 10 days. I’m scared I’m gonna go more!! And I know partly that’s keeping me in this but I’m so “out in space” I can’t think! It’s horrible and I’m lost. Your videos have given me hope. I’m not sure how to change this in my brain!!

    Do you ever encounter people who never had #TheBigOne but who had maybe lots of #LittleOnes? I imagine that a lot of #LittleOnes could accrue over time to create a gradual aversion to wakefulness. In such cases, perhaps the reaction to being awake is milder, in contrast to the phobia-level fear that seems to accompany #TheBigOne. I'm thinking about the example of a person who says, "I'm not anxious or afraid when I'm awake," but it's clear that they are irritated by being awake. Just pondering for funsies.

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  2 года назад +2

      Hi Kristen! Yes definitely, I often encounter people for whom it started diffusely, and sometimes the little ones just build into a real intense struggle, phobia level, sometimes not. Sometimes it’s more irritation than fear as you say. I do think that it’s like so hard to predict anything in this space. Yes, generally if someone has had a big one and struggled for a long time, there’s a bit of a longer journey… but this isn’t always true at all! I do think it helps so much to have these discussions though because the more we see that all these human experiences are common and not strange or unusual… the easier things get!

    Is hyper sleep classed as zero sleep? I have it often when stressed specifically the last 2 weeks

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  Год назад +1

      Hi Tracey,
      No, it’s when it’s superficial, we don’t know if we are sleeping or not, we have vivid dreams, sometimes time seems to skip ahead. It is when we are sleeping, but it is mixed in with hyperarousal.
      When we are not sleeping at all on the other hand, this is when the hyper arousal is really dominant.

      @@thesleepcoachschool8192 Hi, Danial. your some contents have made me motivated and helped me to have some good night sleeps.. than again while searching for help on the internet i trigger my insomnia unknowingly by some factors. what i have experienced is that one of my triggering factors is the 'worst-case-scenario. whenever i see someone's insomnia is worse than mine instead of thinking 'i am not the only one' i start to think 'what if mine gets worse like theirs'. And that trigger my insomnia even more. i know everyone is different and so are their circumstances. what other experience is completely irrelevant. but I can not control my overprotective mind and then again i experience bad night. that's what again keeps me away from searching for help

    So I strarted having this strange sleep pattern in which if I go to sleep I tend to wake up after an hour, an hour and a half having sometimes a fast heartbeat. And also in these short periods of sleep I see different dreams with complex scenes. Should I be worried? Is this a constant state of hypnogogia or is it just stress?

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  2 года назад +3

      Hi Julia,
      Thanks for commenting and you know, these are common experiences when we have had trouble sleeping. When we are in a hyperaroused state, when our brains think there’s some threat, then we wake up often, we have a rapid heart rate, we breathe fast, we feel anxious, we remember dreams, dream content is more vivid, this is common with stress. If you’d like to learn more, episode 322 and 312 can help much!

      Hi Roshan,
      Sorry to hear but glad you’re here. You know, what often helps is to not fight the now. If we go “for now, I’m going straight to REM sleep and nobody has control” then that’s a nice path towards peaceful sleep.
