- In this video we take a first look at the Skinner Alaskan sights for the Henry 30-30 lever action. After having some trouble with the stock Henry buckhorn style rear sights, will this sight make me more effective in the deer woods?

The Skinner crew are A+ for customer service. I put their color case-hardened rear sight on a Henry CC'd .44 Mag - it's fantastic! They also sent the barrel dovetail filler, threaded to accept a second peep aperture.
Awesome video man! I think I’m going to pick up some Skinner sights for my Henry!
especially recommended if you have trouble with that buckhorn like me
@@CloverTac Im going to give my stock buckhorn sights a chance out to 75 yards and I have problems it will be Skinner for me.
Lot of unanswered questions here
well, one of two ways you can proceed... first, watch the rest of my videos on this rifle and these sights? next, just ask. if you choose the later i HIGHLY recommend you hit me up on social media DM/PM or maybe email or the website. RUclips doesn't do a good job at all at letting us know when people comment and or reply. it is just more reliable communication elsewhere.
oh, third option, hit up Skinner Sights, they are great people and love talking about their products so am sure they can help you
What size front sight is on there now?
i do not remember. i do know it was whatever they sent me because i talked to them first... and would recommend others do the same. they were great as far as pointing me in the right direction as far as size. i do have a few other videos on this Henry with the Skinner sights but do not recall if i mention anything about size in those.
Way cool 😎👍
Love me a peep/ ghost rear sight. I don’t know why they fell out of favor. Did you get their optional set of adjustable apertures?
they did send me multiple rear apertures, yes
How does that rear sight mount to the top of the receiver? And although that is venison in the freezer at 75 yards, I am not that impressed. Is that a practice thing or a design thing?
one can only be impressed if they SUCK as bad as I did with the original buckhorn sights. if you shoot fine with them, then yeah, no big deal of course. most receivers are drilled and tapped to that is how it mounts. i SHOULD have mentioned that this sight also doubled the sighting plane, another plus.
From the thumbnail I thought this was JP from Awaken with JP.
🤣😂 how in the world is that?
and I do know who JP is, been trying to get him on the podcast for a while... either he ignores things he isn't interested in OR my tries are just not getting through to him
a .450 front sight with the stripe from midway should do it . Worked out for me real good when I put a peep on my 336.
skinner offers front sights to compliment their rear ones, maybe i didn't cover that but yeah, works much better than those stock Henry semi buckhorns, never been a fan of those
Did you change the front sight?
did you not watch the video?
Sorry my faulty
@@chazpaul7934 no biggie, i jump the gun with questions too sometime... just wanted to make sure. if you need more info or whatever, let me know. i am happy to help however i can.
How do you like it compared to the factory sights?
@@chazpaul7934 works much better, for me
30-30 with 150 grain core-lokt have taken thousands of deer. It's a great combination! I recently picked up a Henry X in 44 magnum. I've been thinking about a receiver mounted sight, it even an optic.
see, as much trouble as i had with the rear Henry sight.... just could not bring myself to throw an optic on a lever rifle LOL
@@CloverTac I'm old and can't see worth a darn.
@@Tex_I_Can TOTALLY get it
I have a marlin 336 30 30, i bought it used and the rear sight folds down or lays down like a hinge im not sure what it is called and not real sure how to use it, i shot it and it went about 8 to 10 inches high but it was above the paper. If you or anyone let me know i will appreciate it.
does it have a slot in it for the rear sight elevator wedge? is the wedge there? often times on used firearm someone has mounted a scope or something and removed that wedge to lower the sight so a scope would clear.
@@CloverTac it has a white diamond in the middle and 3 lines on the left and a flat head screw on the right.
@@gabrielark6353 we probably ain't gonna be able to get anywhere here, no ability to post pictures or anything... hit me up on email media@clovertac.com
