Shooting Tiu-torials: Chris Tiu is the new three-point king of the PBA

DIGOS CITY - A morning shootaround proved enough for Rain or Shine rookie Chris Tiu to rediscover his shooting touch and become the PBA's three-point king.
Tiu defeated KG Canaleta of Air 21 and JVee Casio of Alaska in the finals of the competition to become the first rookie since Jimmy Alapag to win the three-point contest.
"Kaninang umaga nagkaroon ako ng time for a shootaround kasi yung dati kong teammate, Miggy Solitaria, coach na siya ngayon ng Ateneo de Davao high school team. He invited me to speak para sa mga players and nagkataon rin tumawag sa akin yung producer namin sa Tiu-torials, so sinabay-sabay na namin kaya nagkaroon ako ng time to practice shooting," Tiu told InterAKTV.
"Matagal-tagal na rin akong hindi nakakahawak ng bola kasi last time na laro namin was against Ginebra pa."
Tiu came through with 17 points in the elimination round and the good start gave him plenty of confidence.
"Parang naramdaman ko nga na swerte ako kasi yung first round naka-17 point ako, which is my jersey number, pero hindi ko pa rin iniisip talaga na mananalo ako," added Tiu.
With the crowd cheering him on, Tiu continued his fine form in the finals despite having to overcome Canaleta's 18-point output.
"Nakaka-inspire talaga when every shot I made, nagchi-cheer sila," said Tiu. "Nung lumakas yung sigaw nila, I looked at the score and I noticed naka-16 na ako, so two more na lang."
Tiu then sank three more baskets, including the money ball, which gave him the best tally of 21 points.
The former Ateneo guard is no stranger to the long distance competition.
"During the UAAP-NCAA All-Star game, I was able to win back-to-back championships. So this championship was special for me," he said.
