- Well, you guys remembered the 1948 Mack bus that was abandoned and we recovered a few videos ago? Well, its just sitting behind the shop and we're curious as to if we can get it running or not. Congratulations on the bus! I hadn't seen an old Mack Bus until I started my new job about 3 months ago. I'd assume it to be a similar model to yours. I like your bus man. If you decide to sell it, give me a shout. I like vintage buses. I've got a 67 GM PD-4107. I've been afraid to start for fear of the engine running away.
Just get you a plate or something and cover the manifold if it runs away
The good old GM Buffalo bus. 8V 71 Detroit? She should fire up. No problem. Provided the injector rack is moving freely, everything is in working order. Very very simple engines, wouldn’t hurt to keep something nearby just in case it does try to run away, but, it shouldn’t.

2. Is it leaking oil because he popped open the oil air filter? It almost looked as if the air filter had a line running to the motor.

Oil bath air cleaners are designed to be filled with their own oil. They are not tied to the engine oil supply. Good thought though!
@@defiantmotorsports4926 Normally yes. But it was very weird that the oil seemed to be coming right from where the filter was. Also maybe because it's a bus, they oil is cycled through the engine? But I don't know enough about 48 Mack engine, and not finding much online.

Congratulations on running the engine with no oil pressure due to the oil filter and lid missing. I wouldn’t advise you to keep trying to start it. The oil pump isn’t pumping oil to the engine it’s just overflowing the filter can.

Needs new fuel and oil injectors, needs new pipes and wiring and casings, sounds like the spark plugs need to be replaced, the oil tank needs to be patched badly, the air filter is in desperate need of replacement, and all the liquids need to be drained and refilled. And then yeah, not only will the bus start up, it might even move.
