    #MWO (#MechwarriorOnline) by Piranha Games. Free to play at mwomercs.com. MechWarrior Online is a free-to-play vehicular combat video game, officially launched during September 2013 by Piranha Games for Microsoft Windows. The game takes place within the larger #BattleTech universe. In MechWarrior: Online, players takes the role of a ""MechWarrior"" who pilots large bipedal combat vehicles known as BattleMechs (Mech for short). Players can customize their BattleMech with an array of weapons and equipment, and engage in 12 versus 12 battles, the outcome of which earns the players experience and c-bills for future BattleMech purchases and customization. There are currently seven game modes that involve protecting and attacking a single base (Assault), capturing and holding several points (Conquest), take and hold the center of the map (Domination), attacking a space defense system (Siege/Counter-Attack), protecting and attacking field bases with turrets and walls spread across the map (Incursion), and team death-match (Skirmish).

    Quick Google search seems to indicate that the Phoenix Hawk LAM is a transformer (like a lot of LAMs) and it bends over 90 degrees, extends its wings and somehow extends its cockpit to become a jetfighter cockpit when it's time to fly short distances. I assume it can also become a full-on jet, since most LAMs can turn into aerospace fighters.
    I guess this is a case of MWO's engine not being able to handle transforming mechs and wanting to use the form that looks most like a standard Phoenix Hawk to minimise the required 3D modeling.

      These are not LAMs, Partial Wings are a thing in lore, I'm genuinely surprised it's kinda an unknown thing from what I've seen. On tabletop they just make you jump farther while running significantly cooler than standard JJs. There are a series of Jade Falcon mechs that use them.

    I fully agree with the apprehension concerning hitreg on jumping mechs. It's been an unaddressed problem for a long time, so it seems like this will just plow forward regardless. If it has to, I would have much rather seen the Wasp or Stinger. They're iconic, and don't have a "cancelled LAM project" history like the Shadow Hawk and Champion. It feels like they're retconning at this point.

    The partial wing on a Champion seems, in my eyes, a bit of an odd choice. Frankly, they should advance the game's year and put in the Jade Falcon mechs that are so well known for having the wing system. I did leave a suggestion in the forum about the Urbanmech LAM, or Flurbie as it's become known.

    • @magicpainglove274
      @magicpainglove274 23 дня назад

      Its locked equipment , and they will act like you have Jump Jets in a side torso . If (1) side torso / equipment gets destroyed ( in one of the torsos ) you will lose 50% of its effectiveness . If both torsos are destroyed you will no longer be able to jump . So its like equipping Jump Jets in both torsos.

    I want good mechs first, e.g. Templar, Thug, Iron Cheetah, Hellstar, Turkina. Bring back the Hermes, the Clint, the Wasp, Valkyrie, Stinger, etc. We're still missing some real classic mechs, would be weird to get to experimental level III tech and still be out some cool mechs.

  • @N1NJ4P1R4T3
    @N1NJ4P1R4T3 26 дней назад +1

    At the speeds at which the mechs travel, the angle of any surface would have very little effect. A piece of cardboard at a 90° angle would have the same effect as anything for a mech at 100 tons traveling at 100kmh. TL;DR nothing this heavy, traveling this slowly would realize much difference from any optimized flight surface. This is taking into consideration a not ridiculous wingspan

  • @Anarchistbanana

    I mean... Sounds like you need to coordinate your jumps to start when your team is engaged so you won't be shot out of the sky. But it's a cool idea and I'm happy to see those things flank their enemies from the sky and go for backshots in fights. : )
    I wonder can you use the "hover-mechs" to go over the steepest hills or are they as landlocked as some jumpjetless ones at times?

  • @Tawleyn
    @Tawleyn 26 дней назад +4

    Seems really underwhelming. They shouldn't be as fast as LAMS in TT, but they should be at least more mobile than this. I'd say cap the speed at like 70% of land speed when you first take off (so 0 kph if you take off at 0 kph and 70 kph if you take off at 100) and then give them in-air mobility. What's the point of this if you can only go in one direction? It makes you *SO* easy to track and shoot that this seems like a gimmick at best and a great way to get yourself killed at worst. They definitely need to be able to change directions in the air with torso twisting, and then limit twisting speed based on how fast the mech is flying.

      Speedometer lies while you are in air . You are moving at the speed you started jumping ( inheriting momentum ) , so if you start jumping while running at 75 KPH that will be your flight speed , for the first 10 seconds before a different in game mechanic takes over . Partial wings are treated as separate JJ equipment and they generate the least amount of heat when compared to all other jump jets in game and since its locked equipment those values can be further tweaked down without affecting any other stat if needs be.

    You are not being nit picky, the wings need to rotate or the mech needs to bend at the waist so the wings work logically. Those champion wings are facing properly but they are wider than I like but eh. Also Can't wait to see some portion of pilots that lay on the jets for a full burn time getting shot the whole time on a very predictable flight path. Other players of course will make good use of them for crossing areas that normally are obstacle for grounded mechs. I can certainly see several maps where this semi lateral long jumping will be handy for maneuvering out of LOS just to position. I couldn't tell in the video if the jets will still propel a mech more upwards if they are against a wall like the current JJ's do or close to it.
