I tried the settings u suggested, wow big difference very nice thank u😁 your awesome👍😎
You're welcome! I'm glad they are working out for you!
I just purchased a new tcl 50 inch..where do I go to see if I'm getting the best resolution ?
This helped! Thank you!
My tcl led shows three pictures .when i press source button on TV shows six time seeings option.plz guide me
Fourth... Great video; thanx again for an informative and useful guide to the tcl.
Hey Dad i have a question for you about the tcl when you play a dolby vision disc to it is it getting dolby vision because i never seen it pop up on screen when i play a dolby vision movie
I had this issue as well. I had Dolby Vision (DV) 4K movies that were only playing in standard HDR. So when I inserted the disc only the "HDR" popup would appear instead of the "DV" popup. To get DV you must use the "HDMI 3" input. Also, I figured out that I wasn't getting DV because my Samsung 4K bluray player didn't support DV. I ended up getting a Panasonic UB820, but my understanding is that Panasonic, Sony, and Phillips players support DV (maybe others).
What setting would you use for the soap opera look on this tv?
Used your settings.....Thank You
Como activo el espejo de pantalla en una tcl 55 R617?? Ayuda por favor

Same here
Do these settings work for the 55"625?
What settings would you recommend the best for watching sports?
B : 52
C : 93
C : 49
S : 62
Hey there just got this tv model but cant find where to make the image clear it looks fuzzy and a bit blurry any ideas? Btw I was looking at the video but your options look different
Hi! They may have done an update which hanged the menu options. I haven’t had the TV since October. Email me so I can try to help: technodad55 at gmail
Still have this TV in my living room Channa D and it looks great since recent updates.
Really? Nice!
how about for basketball? action smoothing low?
WOO Reno!
Is there any banding on your display
With mine at 50% brightness there some noticable vertical banding. I have Amazon prime, tempted to return and start the gamble of getting a good panel.
Hi Nick! I run mine at 100 brightness and I don't notice too much. If it's a problem, then you might want to go the exchange route. It's up to you though.
I love that you’re always helping a sister out 😊 Thank You!
You're welcome!
I have the CX Oled, I own this set in my bedroom. Man I own the PS5 and XSX and tried them on this set for the hell of it and damn the new consoles look crazy good on the TCL R617
Nice! I have the R635 and it's pretty good too!
Cool, now if they could solve the chip issue so we all can get a ps5 .
See I need help because my picture is great but the color red is a bit dull and orange etc etc it just needs more color but in not sure what to done when knadjust the color it domt really help but the color temperature is what helps but I just dont know how to get it quite right
What about the audio which one is better
(Martin) Motion Clarity ON Dims any settings you set. I have that off because of the possible stuttering in games. So I turn on Game Mode and I have clarity off, provides better input lag as well (tested it). Overall during movies or tv I probably would try clarity off as well to avoid any soap opera effect.
I just got one of these in Nov. 2020 (the price game down a lot from the original MSRP). Not all of the settings even have the same title anymore (because of software updates), and I wonder if any of them work significantly differently now. My biggest concern is how I need to change the settings when switching back and fourth between HDR and SDR content. While this TV seems like a great value (600 CAD for 55", 840 CAD for 65"), I'm not sure I'm okay with the idea of having to change multiple settings every time I want to switch between HDR and SDR content.
There's a 90 day return policy from the place I got it from, so I've got lots of time to decide still.
Can u do the X900E?
How can we change the tint?
I have direct TV too. When I watch live TV or shows on my DVR I get a little voice lag and bad shuttering almost like it's stream lag.. Only way I was able to fix it was to turn on game mode. Have you experienced that?
Same here.
Looking fwd to trying these settings. I've did hrs of research for a week straight on budget TVs. Which left me trying to decide from the 50 inch Vizio m series, the Vizio E-Series which also supports dolby vision and hdr, 120 refresh rate at a 55inch screen for around 399$.. Then there was The TCL 6 series 55 inch of which only has 60 refresh rate but had a better picture than the E series but in all honesty... Not by much.... At all. At the end of the day I ended up going with the tcl 6 series. It had the best reviews overall all.. Basically neck in neck with the m series which the 55 ran from 499 to 599 and higher depending. Next tv will be the Quantum 55 VIZIO M-SERIES Or the q-led from tcl once the prices go down. Last thing surprisingly the 50 inch samsung 6900 of which is a older model with no dolby vision had a excellent picture as well the tcl 5 series. More decisions later on
Would the settings be the same for the tcl55s401?
I highly doubt that it has the same selection of settings, and the optimal settings are likely to be different anyway. The S401 is a very different TV.
I got this and my screen looks a little pixelated.. any sugestions?
I have the same problem.
Am i doing something incorrectly? Our r615 picture settings menu is like 3 options. There isnt any advanced settings on our tcl r615.
Hi Fernando, press the star button on your remote, and you should see in the following order: TV Brightness, Picture Mode, Picture Size, Audio Effect, Sleep Timer, Advanced Picture Settings, and Accessibility. The fastest way to get to Advanced Picture Settings is to press the star button and go up twice.
Techno Dad Thx appreciate the response and info! I was scratching my head on that one...so simple. Lol!
it will just say picture settings . not advanced picture settings. hope this helps
What about natural cinema whats benefits of using it or cons of it
Thinking about purchasing how does the tv look in just 1080p? Please advise. Thanks
Truewb 23 I’d like to know this as well.
did you mess around with any advanced settings in the app? I heard that you can have further control via the smartphone app
No, I didn't. I'm not going to mess with white balance, but you can, and it's very robust.
gildragon you can change picture mode, gamma, noise reduction, color temperature, 11 pt white balance, and color space settings. I have my picture mode set to normal, gamma at 2.4, noise reduction off, and I left the rest default
So I just checked my bright room settings against yours- all the same except direct pic size = AUTO, backlight = 23, contrast = 90, sharpness = 0, natural cinema is ON.
I love how easy it is to toggle settings as the room is very bright during the day but of course is dark at night :). My settings have come close (to my eye) to eliminating issues at least with non-4K content. I'll have to play with backlighting. Other difference is the sharpness. Everything I've seen about 55r617 settings recommends dialing it down to zero. It came from the factory set at 20 and seemed to create all kinds of issues. I'd be interested in hearing about what you see when you dial it down. Thanks as always TD and have a great day!
Cool, I'll check it out!
Backlight at 23 makes for a dark, dull picture imo. That's too low for a bright room.
Sharpness at 0 is too soft. The actual "0" for TCL is sharpness = 20. That's sharpness "off" with no softening or sharpening applied. 20 is the default in movie mode.
Hey techno dad! I've been looking at your videos regarding the TCL series, here in the UK I can get the P series from Amazon!
(Shame because I really like the curved one 😭)
But I believe the P05 and P07 were the same just different remote's.
On Amazon I'm looking at a P08 2018 model, is this just a selling tactic or is there actually any difference 🤔
Hi! I have no clue. Sometimes Amazon is really strange with descriptions and stuff. Just have to be careful. But the return policy is good, so if you get tricked, then return it!
What about for sports watching and also whats benefits or cons of natural cinema
Just have the natural cinema on for everything but games since you'll want game mode enabled, which disables natural cinema. Honestly, I can't tell much of a difference so I am okay to keep game mode enabled all the time, but if pay close enough attention to it, when it isn't enabled for movies, for example, you might see slight stuttering as a shot pans to the left or right. Also, his settings are not accurate; it's as he said which some may be confused by, it's his preference, not for accuracy, which is fine unless you came for accuracy.
Backlight, TV brightness, and gamma are all meant to be set based on preference and room lighting. That only changes a bit between SDR and HDR. Color temp, for accuracy, should be warm. Good luck on changing gamma as the Roku app for phones doesn't work, but 2.2 for brighter rooms and sports. 2.4 is for darker rooms. You can set it different from those if you're in a really bright room, but I wouldn't.
Where is movie mode I cant find it ?
How do i full screen my 50inch tcl on Netflix
Is the TCL R617 Series 65 worth the $1k or would you recommend another brand? Just curious because of your comment on a video you uploaded stating the upscaling not being great. Thanks (^_-)👍
Worth it
Worth every penny! Picked up the 65 R6Series for my living room from Best Buy last night for Cyber Monday sale for $799! 💎💎💎
@@lstruggy lucky bastard I noobht it a few days before for $899 from best buy lol oh well
Cheddar323 bro call Best Buy u might be able to recoup that 💯 back let them know 📞
@@lstruggy I tried they gave me some BS like they can't do a price change refund because the price was a cyber Monday deal. I spoke to someone else they said I have to call after the 27th so they can try to help me out. It's kind of lame that I just bought the T.V a few days ago when it was supposed to be at it's lowest price "black Friday" sales and behold cyber Monday comes and they lower the tv by $100!
What about game settings?
Can you do a settings calibration for sharp 65" lc-65q7370u? Just got it on black Friday and I'm sure many of your fans as well sir.
Hi Ricky! Unfortunately I just bought a Sony and I am saving for CES 2019. I don't have the money to buy another TV right now.
@@TechnoDad I also have a Sony x900e "49
Pls tell ratio of screen not getting full screen
You need to switch LED Motion clarity OFF, and switch on Natural Cinema. All other motion shindig stays off.
Can't figure out how to get into the advanced picture settings on 65R615
Hi! Press the little star button
Everyone, do yourself a favor, get HFCR and a ionedisplay pro and learn to calibrate to rec.709 and or rec 2020 or dci p3, its very cool he did this video but people you have to get away from copy settings, like he said watch videos of copy settings vs true colormeter calibration settings. 2 exact same model tv’s will have different settings viewed by a calibration meter. It makes a huge difference. I read a lot on forums and how to do a true calibration and stopped racking my brain with copy settings! Now i know my tv is calibrated properly.
A little clipping in black but that could have been my phone.
I have found Led motion clarity to be too dark, but maxing out the backlight might solve that issue. I might play with this a bit when I get home to see how it looks in person.
I "calibrate" using a calibration disc and a mark-1 eyeball. So my picture is pretty good to begin with. But even after my adjustments I feel the picture is too dark. I am trying to get that bright pop without negatively affecting picture quality and contrast.
It's not a bad picture for the price.
@@TechnoDad almost 1 year later and checking back in.
I got my settings ironed out. For SDR I use Picture: Movie and TV Brightness: Dark.
Local Contrast: High (I never change this)
Backlight: 20
Contrast: 94 (100 clips white at the last two bars in test patterns)
Brightness: 50 (default)
The other settings are on their default.
I use Natural Cinema on for smoother panning but no SOE. BFI is off because I feel it makes the picture too dark.
Color Temp: Warm
These settings are great for SDR on my set. It has bright, punchy colors but maintains very deep blacks and minimal blooming from the local dimming. SD resolution doesn't look that great, but these days I view very little SD content outside of revisiting Stargate SG1. Everything else I watch is in at least 1080p HD and it handles that and native 4k VERY well.
For Blue Ray, I just use my PS4 Pro for now. The Pro has excellent upscaling to 4k so I let the PS4 handle that and my upscaled blu Ray's look freaking fantastic.
As for the HDR settings I use this:
DV: Bright
TV Brightness: Dark.
Backlight: 100 (default)
Contrast: 100 (default)
Brightness: 51
Everything else at default
Natural Cinema on
Color Temp: Warm
Rtings, CNet and others recommend for Dolby Vision, you go DV: Dark and TV Brightness: Brighter and this will give you the proper color temperature and HDR pop. I disagree vehemently here. Not necessarily about the color temperature....they are probably right about this, but with DV: Dark setting, it clips the darker black areas like crazy and you lose a TON of shadow detail. People continously complain about how dark Dolby Vision is on the 6 series and I have found those are the people who also have set their DV to Dark. The ones I convinced to try Dolby Vision Bright and TV Brightness Dark noticed an instant improvement.
All shadow detailed tends to be present with the combination of DV: Bright and TV: Dark. With a full blown calibration, the shadow detail would probably be even better.
I have also used the iPQ app to auto-calibrate the white balance of my tv with good results. The shadow details has improved a bit since I have done this. I recommend everyone to give it a try. It's very easy to do.
Hi @Techno Dad just want to confirm if I can apply this settings to my TCL '50 P65? Thank you!
Is this an upgrade from 720 plasma?
Hi! Resolution wise, yes. BUT, black level and contrast wise, no. I went from 1080 Plasma to an OLED as those technologies are more in line with each other. They both Plasma and OLED have self emissive pixels.
TDAD,
What tv you favor?
TCL or SONY..I am looking to update my tv or Oled B7A?
Are the 615 and 617 both 55” models, if so, what is the difference between them?
617 is Amazon exclusive and provides voice control thru the remote
Tommy Holland Ok. Thank you so much. Just wanted to make sure that there weren’t any huge differences between the two.
My tcl tv doesn't show well with Amazon fire stick.
My R617 on some Netflix content and when playing state of decay looks really grainy or ( loud image) any advice?
Quiet Gamer did you fix this? Have the same problem
Does Dolby Vision playback seem off to you? On my set it is dramatically darker and dimmer than HDR10, it's almost as if half the contrast and brightness has been sucked from the image. I have watched DV material on other sets and it was no where near this dim. Is this a issue with this model or just my set.
Seems dim on my set too! Driving me crazy!
It's called you get what you paid for.
I have the same issue. DV and HDR10 is a little too dark. And a bit of clouding/flashlighting that goes away if I increase the HDR brightness setting
service menu code pls
LED action smoothing dims the screen too much on my set
Exactly! I have to turn it off.
Lower it, might be to high.
So I absolutely cannot use LED motion clarity, the flicker it introduces is maddening. However my girlfriend cant see the flicker at all. That setting is an odd one, if you can see the flicker it's unusable however it seems not everyone can.
@@MAdilK lol
Micro Contrast makes anything unwatchable on High too, my TV looked awful using the settings in the vid.
What's the Background Music name?
Hi sir, I'm from Philippines, how to fix my TCL TV 29inches, because the color of my TV is black and white, can you help me🙏🙏🙏
LED motion clarity uses backlight strobing which flickers the monitor rapidly. (it goes by various other names on PC monitors, such as 1ms blur reduction on LG displays.) It's very damaging to the eyes and in people sensitive to the rapid flicker can cause severe eyestrain and headaches. If game mode isn't low enough latency and 60Hz isn't smooth enough for fast-paced games then you gotta really just play on an appropriate 144hz PC monitor.
Why do you have sharpness set at 20? Shouldn't sharpness always be set to zero?
These picture settings are a joke I had a good laugh at this video
No, believe it or not zero can cause blurry edges around objects my old Samsung had a sharpness of 4 out of 10
Skip to 2:41 for settings
cant access my roku on my tcl tv to change color and so on
You can’t get to the settings menu? Are you talking about this TCL TV?
@@TechnoDad i did it by mistake =) ..but thanks for responding
My movie watching settings:
-tv brightness Brighter, picture mode Dark HDR, picture size Auto, audio effect (N/A I have a home theater)
-Dark HDR, local contrast Medium, dynamic contrast off, backlight 100, brightness 52, contrast 100, sharpness 0, color 45, tint (default), color temp normal, action smoothing off, natural cinema on (reduces judder from blurays), led clarity off, game mode off
These are almost straight from CNET recommended settings.
Nice!!
Why is backlit so high?
JesusSavedJoshua the picture with TV Brightness: Brighter, and Dark HDR setting is dim with the backlight any lower. These are the settings recommended from CNET.com and I think it looks stunning. If you you're watching SDR content with these settings it *can* be blinding at times, so I usually adjust TV Brightness to dim if I'm not watching HDR content
@@wesfishcare quick question, I just bought this tv and have it hooked up from my cable box to home theater than back to the tv. How do I enable HDR settings? My picture on this TV is extremely dull compared to my 11 year LG tv that i just got rid of. I will try your settings and see if that makes any improvement. Watching ball games on this new tv is killing me.
@@musicismeds Cable providers dont broadcast in HDR, so the only way to take advantage of HDR is with HDR streaming content (Netflix, Prime Video) or 4K bluray discs. Even if you're watching SDR sports with cable it shouldnt be a dull image. I would go into your picture settings and adjust contrast to 100, backlight 100, brightness 50, dynamic contrast High, and TV Brightness to Dark or Bright
Which series is this?
The new 2018 6 series
Reno is where i'm from haha i got the 65P615
Oh snap!! I go there like once every two or three months!
Does this tv have 120 hz
4K120Hz? No.
I can't find action smoothing
Some lower end models don’t have certain features..my TCL does not have it..if you don’t see it then you don’t have the option.
What about the Dolby Vision settings?
I usually go with DV dark and run everything else pretty much the same.
@@TechnoDad I'm returning the tv and getting something else. It has too much ghosting effect around characters and objects. I'm looking at the Vizio M series but we'll see.
And D series.
Colt R d-series is their worst TVs.. it’s either m-series or p-series. Ghostly effect ? Hmm 🤔 maybe a faulty panel you should take it back and get a new one. This tv is beast for a budget tv..
@@Randii225 I got the Q6FN Samsung 49" and it is AMAZING. Still working on best picture settings.
How do you get rid of soap opera syndrome?
Turn on game mode
Can we get into it before the jump next video.
Lol! Sorry, that's staying...
Techno Dad just for a switch up lol.
Idk why I laughed so hard at this lmfao u a fool for this 😋😂😂
Denzel Brown haha .
best setting for watching hockey?
Not sure...I have sold this TV already.
Try these for all media (regulat tv, streaming, dvd, gaming):
Picture Mode: *Movie
Contrast: 95
Brightness: 52
Gamma: 2.2 (via Roku app)
Color: 46
Tint: 4
Sharpness: 0
Color Temperature: Warm
Backlight: 7
Noise Reduction: off (via Roku app)
Local contrast: High
Natural cinema: On
TV Brightness: Brighter.
Any individual R,G, or B color subcontrols, if present, should remain at their default settings.

Mark Louie Adame okay, I’ll try it when it comes out on iOS. It worked pretty well?
This did nothing for me because I don't have advanced picture settings on my TCL TV and I have a series 4 so maybe advanced setting's came out after the series 4 and I just bought this TV in 2020
Probably. Not 100% sure about the Series 4.
Well least I got the picture settings right where I want them.. when I watch regular HD content I have the (backlight at 100%) (brightness 50%) (contrast 90%) (sharpness 35%) (color 45%) and (tint 0%) of course.. I don't really mess with the HDR settings the preset's are awesome the way they are only thing I change is the HDR dark mode for watching movies and HDR normal to bright mode when watching sports
Third
In my dark room (for movie watching) my settings are the same as yours except: TV Brightness: Darker, Sharpness: 0, Color: 50, Color temp: Normal, Natural Cinema (judder reduction): On, LED Motion Clarity: Off
Are you still enjoying this TV a year later?
I actually gave it to a friend. I saw him a month ago and he said it’s still awesome!
I wish reviewers could use Batman or other dark filns where tux lapels and buttons seem lost. Some films with people of color too. Your settings differ greatly from CNET. I am baffled that you have backlighting set so high when CNET does not????
Anyone figured out why 4k HDR content is Sooooooo dark? Not sure if it is just when using the built in Netflix app or not, but 4K through Netflix is unwatchable it is so dark.
Is it on "Dark HDR"?
Did you figure out how to fix this? I'm experiencing the same issue
second
if u have a old Tcl just put pointtopoint its legit not hard :/
All i dont like is dark pictured movies i dont watch them there is no point if you cannot clearly see the movies.
Then dont watch any DC movies this generation. somehow they tend to be pitch-black even in daylight scenes.
These settings are for displaying in Wakmart for the average human to sell it. These settings are so inaccurate to what should be the settings that experts or anybody that knows TVs recommends
I can't even figure out how to get to the settings lol...
It’s the little star button
@@TechnoDad thanks I figured out that you can only access the settings while playing content and not when the tv is on standby
Gotcha!
Less chatter please
These TV's screw you . You set it to highest contrast and screen goes so dark. Higher brightness will only make unnatural and ugly picture. I set to LOW contrast and slight more bright to get best.
Chinese based company? I don't support Dictatorships if I can help it.
