Hey Marty! You are so good at explaining and following up with well played examples. I use your vids for myself and also for several of my students. When they see you doing the same things I speak of, it really helps. Thank you so much. I seem to always relate to the way you put things across, and it helps my own playing as well as reenforcing how I feel about teaching. You Da Man!
Marty, Marty, Marty. You are so right!! I WAS in a soloing rut!! It's like you've been reading my mail!! Great lesson!! Great guitar!! Great teacher!! A gazillion thanks!! :)
Marty this video helped me understand how important it is to know where the roots are and how that can help me know where to go up and down the neck. I'll be practicing these extensions and positions for sure. I've already gotten some good sound out of it and I think this is going to help me expand my ability. I'm a very technical learner (future engineer!) and I've been "stuck" in the scales too much.
hey marty since 1year i have been watching your videos and belive me i have found lots of improvement in my playing.......so i really want to thanks for your awasome videos...
Nice lesson as always. I like the concept of using a different position rather then the same pentatonic spot. I also like what you said about using quarter note bends up and then switching to a different note instead of resolving the quarter note bend to it's original tone.
This was a great lesson, so perfectly described. My resolution for this year was to become a better solo player and you have really made learning fun and easy to understand.
I totally agree with Chrissy Wittwer and Wooblidoo. Absolutely my favorite video of yours so far. You have just given me hours of practice material. Damn you!
Hi marty..im an avid fan of yours..i always use your videos as my reference in learning more about playing guitar..im in my 30's now, i hope i can play as good as you..thanks for sharing your knowledge...
Thanks for all these toturials Marty! Im 14 and have chosen MUSIC for one of my GCSEs and your videos are realy helping me out with the solo performences! XD
marty man..just clicked what scales are actually used for now..got pentatonic and major down but never really grasped it. its all about finding the roots of the scale..may seem obvious to many but to a you tube taught its like coming out of the dark ages! haha
Nothing beats time put in. Definitely use a metronome, if you don't already. This will help you judge what is working best and allow you to follow your progress.
I agree. As a long time player I never incorporated that into my playing and like the new twist. I find I do a Marty lesson then like the way I play for an hour then I am my old self again.
Great lesson...amazing what you can do with just so many notes... Thanks, this lesson will give me a lot more choices After I practice awhile, of course
Hendrix, Billy Gibbons and myself all use .008" string sets. I used to play 10s and 11s and all it did for me was ruin my finger joints. Gibbons now plays 7s! I'm considering it. Why not? He's got killer tone.
Hi Marty, can you please di a tutorial for thunder clatter by wild cube on acoustic, there's none around and I really want to play, thanks for all your videos helped me alot in the last 8 months
Hey Marty!!!!! Could I request you do a tutorial on "Found Out About You" by Gin Blossoms? I'm switching from acoustic to electric and I've always loved the intro. Thanks!!!!! Love your videos you're amazing!!!!!
There's a bit more bass response in thicker strings, but you can accomplish the same thing by simply turning the bass up on your amp. The difference is rather negligible anyways. On an acoustic you'll notice it because there's no bass control. If I were to just play rhythm, I would enjoy the thicker strings for their tendency to stay in place. Yngwie uses .008". I don't think the thinner strings slow us down enough to warrant thicker strings. What is important is finger health. Go light.
Marty! your lessons taught me how to play guitar..but watching all those videos on soloing patterns is not helping..i know all my modes, minor and major scales and pentatonics, some music theory but i just cant seem to link it all together and apply it to improvised solo's..my fingers are used to climbing up and down the scales subconsciously and i end up just playing scales but i have to consciously choose to go between modes/minor/major it doesn't just "flow" like how most solo's do
Hey Marty!! I was wondering if you could do a lesson on Pull Me Under by Dream Theatre. I just got an electric guitar and I really want to play this song. Thanks!
I should probably say too that its particularly difficult when im playing slower music as i try and hide it by playing faster through the scales but when its slower its hard to hide the fact that its just a scale and it often does not start or resolve well and it becomes difficult to solo out of the tempo of the song and make the solo follow a general rhythm if that makes sense?
Holy Toledo Batman !! Marty, what strong fingers you have; or is it super light guage strings, that allow you to bend like a monster? What guage strings do you have on that Ferrari Red Strat?? Anybody know? Thanks
Man I've seen a lot of your videos over the years, but this is some slick playing. Really inspirational.
Thank you Marty Swartz for teaching me guitar throughout the years. You are such an amazing musician!
