THanks, I appreciate that take. Read a whole article about them this morning, the number of views that new track got is insane! I am a fan and I really tried to get that across in the video. His THREE video response clearly shows he didn't take it that way, but oh well. I said what I had to say and that's it for me. Not looking for continued drama. I could easily post more vids to take advantage of how much pub this has created, but I genuinely didn't do this for views or subs. I did it so that if at least one person makes a better decision after watching him push less than great products, it's a win. Thanks for the comment, it really does mean a lot!

Like others, I view my garage gym as a hobby and sanctuary (and torture chamber). The home gym community is small. GGR was a great help, but while the production quality has increased, the quality of the reviews has decreased. I get that his channel is a business, and he will do what is best for his family, but the channel simply isn't as good as it once was.

It wasn't public, you have to go to the Pillar 4 site to see that they own GGR now... Along with BarBend and Breaking Muscle (which explains a lot about what's going on with those sites too) and a bunch of mattress sites. Basically high dollar, high margin affiliate sites. Thank you so much for watching my stuff, it means a lot. I totally didn't expect to pivot to being a RUclipsr at 53!😂

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and you're not the only one who noticed "changes" with Coop. I asked Coop for advice via a RUclips video but never got a response. I also tried to Sign Into his Website but it never worked and I never got help from them. Coop WAS my main influence for purchasing fitness equipment but I found other RUclips sources that actually took time to respond and offer help.

    • @GymCrafter
      @GymCrafter  26 дней назад

Sorry you had that experience and I wish it wasn't the norm now. I'm with you, used to be a much bigger fan than I am now. Gluck responds right away on YT and on Insta. I think he's the go to person now. Love his stuff. It's been interesting to watch his reviews next to GGR of the same gear. They are soooo different. The Fringe Sport Dane review is a good example. GGR was all good stuff and all surface level (clearly hadn't used it that much) while Gluck went deep, had clearly trained on it a bunch, and wasn't afraid to point out the problems. It's the difference between making videos to sell things and making videos to review them. Gluck is an awesome guy, met him last month and he's exactly the guy you see on his channel. Can't shout him out enough!

Very powerful video! I have been saying these same sentiments for a while now.... with a little more hostility. Lol! The blatant arrogance, and ego he carries himself with, along with the condescending ways he has talked to his staff on camera has never sat well with me. Maybe it's his shtick for the channel? I don't know, but it's not working.
As far as his credibility with me, well, that has long been gone. It's quite common for him to review something only to have that footage used to make a well produced commercial that's posted on social media shortly after.
There's something that you touched on in a previous video- you wait a while after getting a piece of equipment before doing a review. I totally appreciate that. The Pillar 4 Puppet shows it off like a new toy as soon as he gets it. Is it cool to have a sneak peek? Sure! But that's all it is. For me, his "honest reviews" are taken with the smallest grain of salt.
    Thanks for the solid content!

My buddy sent coop a pair of the Mack clamps, which he was the designer for. Been tested and proven to be THE strongest clamps on the market. They work for both normal barbell collars and axle collars. Coop did a short barely referencing them but never reviewed them. Yet on the PRX halo review coop is using them. My buddy offered a $10 discount code with a $20 kickback to GGR even but GGR obviously wanted a cash payment to do a review. This is a company founded by an Iranian immigrant who is incredibly passionate about being in the United States and wants to offer the best product to the American gym market possible; and coop can’t be bothered to do a review with a SWEET deal offer when it comes to kickbacks and it’s not enough cause he doesn’t have the money to just pay for a review like the juggernaut brands.

    • @GymCrafter
      @GymCrafter  23 дня назад

I heard soooooo many stories like that and worse at Home Gym Con. GGR is 100% a pay to play channel. It's a marketing channel at this point, not a review channel. And that's fine as long as viewers understand that's what it has become.

I used to watch GGR religiously Jul 6, 2021 ✅ Bowflex SelectTech Kettlebell was the last GGR video I watched. I took a break because my gym was complete for the time being. I came back a couple weeks ago because I'm in the market for a manual treadmill so of course GGR was my first stop. Coop is still charismatic as ever, but I noticed exactly what you mentioned. Things seemed different. I had no idea he sold the channel. I also noticed the ggr reviews everything channel and wondered wtf was going on. I knew I wasn't going crazy. Coop is still the best in front of the camera, he's great at what he does. Bummer to see him sell off his channel. Change is inevitable tho 🤷‍♀ I'm happy for his success.

He lost me the most though when he would know the barbell, plate, etc he was reviewing was better than Rogue's but EVERY TIME he would say even though this one is better, I still reccomend Rogue, buy Rogue.
He got so Pro Rogue we all could tell he was being paid off.
I dont hate Coop, but it is sad that he sold out to the highest bidder.
Selling to Pillar has set him up to where he doesn't care about integrity anymore.
Coop is lost, Tim, he ain't coming back and that's cool but Coop if you knew how bad that little disclaimer you say before every video makes you look, you would quit saying it.

      @GymCrafter  Месяц назад

Well, it's for home gym owners. Most of whom cannot afford to go to Germany for something like this. FIBO, the show in Germany is a completely different thing. It's an industry trade show where mfrs. from around the world show off their gear to the people that sell it... Stores, websites, etc. It's not for home gym owners.
Home Gym Con is. And while I heard a lot of people mention that there wasn't much else to do whilel they were there, for most of us, HGC offered plenty to keep us all busy. By the time you spent the day at the show and went to the vendor dinner there wasn't time for anything else. Also, it's in the middle of the country. Where it's central to everyone. Would be fair to have it far from everyone or all the way on one side of the US.
It's in Louisville, KY next year so there will be a lot more to do for folks who want to make a bigger trip out of it. It's a great step up for the show and something that can be done due to its size. Keep in mind that this year was only year two and they still have a tight budget. It's affordable to do in French Lick and not so much in more populated cities.

I would think it would take decades for the site to generate tens of millions of dollars of revenue and be worth that investment … but maybe I’m missing something ?

    • @GymCrafter

Yup. You have no idea how much money he was making BEFORE being bought. Since I've both bought and sold web and YT properties before... the typical sale amount is bt 35-40x your monthly revenue. BT brand deals, affiliate sales, selling the gear he gets for free, and ad dollars, he was making an easy 7 figures per year. Add to that they kept him on as the face of the brand and that deal was Very lucrative. Plus, you have to combine his website revenue with his YT revenue when figuring all of that out. He built an empire for sure. And, honestly, that's one of the things that bugs me most. He didn't need the money and was doing really well without Pillar4. Why let someone else walk all over your reputation just to sell supplements on a second channel?
Thanks for posting this comment, I think a lot of people have the same question. it wasn't until I started doing this for a living (started as a side thing over 15 years ago) that I saw all the back end revenue people are making and what an exit paid.

Thanks for the video, makes sense. FWIW I do think all RUclipsrs fall prey to bias once they receive "free gear" or perceive the promise of monetary reward. The latter can be both directly from the company with the though of more free gear or indirectly from monetization from more views and comments. It is human nature. The most convincing reviews I've seen are folks who buy stuff with their own money or even pay for what they were asked to review after reviewing it because they liked it so much. Frankly, consider the Fringe Plate endorsement you gave after receiving free 45lb plates at HGC.... also how can we trust your review of the free BOS curl bar you just received as well.... just saying... Look, I appreciate all the reviews by all the RUclipsrs, but realistically, bias exists when free stuff is in play and this happens both consciously and subconsciously.

I 100% agree and this Friday on the Way Too Early For a Friday Podcast on the Garage Gym Life YT channel, we'll be discussing this exact topic. To address your two examples, though... The first bar they sent me for free I dumped all over. Came right out and said not to buy it. You can see the review on my site and on this channel. For the Fringe plates... I bought, with my own money, a complete set of their contrast bumpers several years ago. In fact, 90% of everything I've reviewed on my site I bought with my own money, and much of it has no affiliate program or back end pay. I also make a point to spend a LOT of time making videos that aren't product reviews. I'm releasing a barbell finish video tomorrow that's taken 3 full days to complete. While I will link all the barbells in the description, the video doesn't pitch anything other than saying my favorite barbell is the American Barbell Chewy bar... A bar I bought for full retail price with my own money.
This was a side thing for me for many years and I've been fortunate enough to be able to make it a full time thing. And what you describe goes through my mind all day, every day. It's my biggest concern because there are soooo many people out there only after money.
It's a fine line to walk between making a living at this and keeping your integrity. Honor, character, and integrity are my most highly held values, but unless you know me personally, that can often sound like lip service.
I really, really appreciate you posting this comment as it's what a lot of people think, but never say. All I can do is continue to make content and review products as I always have and earn people's trust over time. If you ever see me stray from that on a video, please call me out! And if you have any suggestions on ways to further show that what I put out is genuine, I'd love to hear it. It really is my biggest concern.

I do miss quality content from GGR. I started watching his content less and l less when he went from preaching about American quality to pushing.... possibly American designed but Chinese built equipment. The reason though is simple. He got sponsored. Now.... imo Rogue and similar companies have gotten complacent... and the home gym market has exploded over the last 5 years and there ARE other viable brands out there. But that's just it.... there's MULTITUDES of brands out there yet GGR pimps for the same usual ones relentlessly. Mainly.... REP these days. To the point i feel like he might be on REP's payroll, haha. Not saying REP is bad. It's just ALL GGR ever recommends now. Then there's nuobells.... whatever.... rower brand is the current fad... etc. He was even whoring out for tonal for fuck's sake.
My point is it's just so painfully obvious when GGR puts out content..... commercials really.... because they were paid to do so.
Then there's just the fact.... there's only so many barbell collar, dumbbell, barbell, weight plate videos i can take. I don't need about a dozen videos a year on..... dumbbells.
The home gym market is huge nowadays. And i get when people think home gym they immediately assume the bare bones equipment. Rack, bench, barbell and dumbells. And i get GGR came from the dreaded crossfit fad world and thats all crossfitters want.... barbells... dumbbells.... racks... and benches. Oh... and friggin kettlebells. Thats the funny thing though... you dont see many kettlebell videos from GGR. Its pretty much exclusively dumbbells. That said..... ive been in the home gym game for 7 years (Been a gym nut for longer though). Ive grown with the rise in popularity of the hobby. Unlike GGR though.... i never participated in what i think is the insanity that is crossfit. I mean if thats what gets you moving.... great... i guess. But imo its such a dumbass way to train. To each their own. My point is..... ive grown beyond the rack... barbell... dumbbell... benches.... etc. I want to see reviews on ACTUAL gym equipment. Shit from like.... Bolt fitness.... Fettle Fitness.... or any other brand that's making actual machines for residential use but even light commercial use but at residential prices. Review some Legend Fitness equipment.... PRIME Fitness equipment.... Sorinex... remember them? GGR used to pimp them out back in the day. But brands like ForceUSA... i just found a local supplier... or i should say former local supplier (i moved) out in New Lennox Illinois called Peak Strength. They make... err... sell some quality looking machines for resonable prices... imo. Powertec makes some affordable price friendly home gym equipment.... and theyre an OG company as far as home fitness goes. I dont think ive seen a GGR review on ANYTHING from Powertec.
There's just SOOOOOOO much potential content to be made out there... yet i feel like GGR sticks to the same repetitive videos.. over and over again. The review game has GOT to be hard to get into as.... you yourself is pretty much funding your channel and im sure youtube money is damn near nonexistent... and gym equipment.. even the "affordable" stuff.... isnt exactly cheap. I'm willing to drop $2-3,000 on something like a leg curl/extension selextorized machine. But GGR will likely say thats "impractical"... as they then pimp out the Hydrow.... equally expensive and just as much a space hog. I'm more into bodybuilding though. Even when i powerlifted i still did and thoroughly enjoyed doing accessory work. Id LOVE some reviews on seated leg curl/extension machines.. real ones not that titan fitness-like plate loaded crap. A pec fly/rear delt combo machine. A leg press.... a hack squat machine.... a leg press/hacksquat combo machine. Seated calf machines..... pullover machines. Hell.... if someone could just review Fettle Fitness' entire catalog id be thrilled. Home gym hacks and reviews among others have been my go to.... mainly HGHR because i feel his "home gym" mindset is much... MUCH more in line with mine. Hes the only guy ive found who's seemingly even heard of Fettle Fitness..... but even hes only reviewed 4 pieces from them of the DOZENS they offer. But at least HGHR mixes it up and is into more of a bodybuilding way of life.
I stumbled on this video and figured it would be gold. You did not disappoint. And now i'll check out your channel. So... while you didn't do it for clout... you mightve gotten a new viewer. Because youve said what most of us have been thinking for years. GGR is forever stuck in a "if you're just starting out in your home gym journey we're the channel for you.... watch part... 1,143 on which dumbbell to buy." Haha
Edit...less than a minute after posting:..... hahaha haha. Like I said, I'm checking out your channel and the most recent video posted a few hours ago...... you're unboxing a Hydrow. I wonder how much that company has spent on getting youtubers to pitch their product. You're about the 1,000th review of the hydrow ive seen now. I don't get it. It's a rower.... pull string back and forth. What's there to review? How many reviews of it does youtube really need? I'll keep scrolling but not a great start... just saying, haha

So impressive that you would turn down "high seven figures, well into eight figures" (~$7.5-$15 MILLION) to remain independent. 🤣
I've watched Coop since his first video. While SOME content creators MIGHT think he's changed, I suspect the VAST MAJORITY of viewers and subscribers (e.g., me) still LOVE his videos as much as ever, if not more.
So, Coop, if you see this, just know this guy--who I've never seen nor heard of till now--speaks only for himself and a teeny, tiny minority of envious wannabes, haters, and trolls.
Keep on keepin on! You're one of the most informative and entertaining creators on YT, and P4's acquisition hasn't changed that one iota.
Frankly, I think you not attending HGC was an admirable way to let lessor creators have the spotlight that you would otherwise unintentionally and deservedly steal from them. Kudos! 👍👍

Most people would take that as fast as they could get a pen out to sign the agreement. I only made this vid because I am/was truly a fan. I have no idea why Coop didn't attend HGC but I doubt it was out of some noble idea to let others get the spotlight. The criticisms are valid; no way he just "forgot" strength co in his recent plate round-up (he gave them awards in the past). And it is troubling how he can review one product - say it is superior to Rogue - and still recommend Rogue over that product. The motive is clear - he's now driven by the dollars. I watch his reviews now solely because he gets access to the latest releases before virtually everyone else. But I watch Gluck (and will now watch this gentleman) to get an honest unbiased review (as he did recently when he unequivocally would not recommend nuobells because they simply don't hold up under heavy use).

@@Mench951 Stating there’s no way someone could genuinely forget/overlook something is an empty claim. Could be true or untrue, so it’s meaningless. And it’s nonsense to claim/imply that Rogue’s money is controlling him when he plainly tells his massive audience that a competitors product is better. By analogy, I recognize and admit that the 2023-24 Celtics are substantially better than the Lakers, but I much prefer watching-and recommend others watch-the Lakers because the Celtics’ style of play is relatively boring. In other words, even when they appear to conflict, two things can be simultaneously true. It is both common and perfectly acceptable to prefer/recommend products/services for subjective reasons rather than objective ones.

@@cefrayer I take what you're saying as it is nonsense to suggest one can truly know another's mind or intent. Of course you're correct but I think it's a fair inference that Coop didn't just forget a popular US manufacturer of plates. I also note you had no issue inferring the intent of the gentleman who posted this video. To me he seemed genuine; to you, a troll. I disagree. As for your analogizing equipment recommendations to which basketball team you prefer to watch, I think the analogy is inapt. There is money involved here in terms of sponsorship and affiliations and I think it's reasonable to infer that money may play a role in what products are being more heavily favored. Last thought: Coop is a critic. That's his job and I would agree that the home gym community is better for having people like him critique equipment. But as a critic, he ought to be open to receiving some criticism as well. Something I thought this gentleman did with respect.

What would you do differently, do you not have skin in the game, is everyone else not driving traffic to affiliate links, and trying to make a profit? Guy just did it better than everyone else and is the most revered in the garage gym space.
You making this video is out of the goodness of your heart, or because controversy and “drama” type content drives traffic to your channel. Which in turn increases subscribers, which in turn helps profit your hobby.

This is bizarre. Why do you feel the need to make a video solely about another reviewer? It’s called success and Coop has made a living out of what he loves doing and it’s his decision on what he puts out. If you don’t like his new content, it’s quite simple to unsubscribe.
I subscribe for videos of all gym content, whether I take the reviewers words for the quality of the product is my decision at the end of the day.
I’ll be honest, I unsubscribed from your channel because you threw a fit about Rogue not giving you the time of day and wouldn’t even show the product your subscribers asked of you. Granted you knew nothing about the product, it was right in front of you for a “Quick Look” and to give your viewers a glimpse into what the product looks and feels like.

Thanks for actually pointing specific things out that concerned you instead of calling names. I'm happy to address reasonable people that act like adults....
I could care less about the Rogue booth. I wasn't upset that they ignored ME. I was upset because I showed them a bunch of comments from potential customers asking for a walk through on a product I knew nothing about. The questions people were asking were very specific and a "quick look" wouldn't have helped them. I got up early, went to the booth before they were busy, to help THEM, not myself or Rogue. They could have cared less and were very rude about saying "we aren't doing any media". Why even go? It was a convention, NOT a trade show. Conventions are specifically for your fans and to say that you don't want to help people asking to give you their money is offensive.
As for why a public video? That's a great question. First, he's not in charge of his channel anymore, Pillar 4 is. Google what has happened to Sports Illustrated since they got involved and you'll see what I mean. Second, people trust him blindly and they shouldn't. If making this public helps even one person make a better decision, it was worth it. And if he would just change the channel name to Garage Gym Marketing, it would solve the whole issue.
Sorry to see you go, but I am who I am and I speak my mind, sometimes to my detriment. But i stand behind what I said and have noticed that NONE of the negative comments have called out a single thing I actually said (you can see proof of each point on videos on his channel right now), only that I called him out publicly. People can shoot the messenger all they want, but it doesn't change the message.
Oh, and I shot 20 reels/shorts at the con and only one was negative. And based on what actually happened. I don't think that's a bad mix.

None of the subscribed tubers I had were putting anything out, so I appreciated that you were doing so for those of us tuned in. I didn’t request a specific review, I just wanted an up close look at the setup, as all the photos online were essentially renders and didn’t provide a full picture. I just wanted a glimpse into what I was preparing to buy.
Of course a review and walkthrough would have been preferred and it sucks that Rogue treated you that way. I agree, that was a shitty move, but I feel like they had some type of “gag order” on social media reviews, but they could have handled the response better.
Back to the Coop topic, I just don’t think it’s in your best interest to be “attacking” a fellow RUclipsr for what he does with his channel. You could have just made a comment about it in one of your videos, but you decided to make an 8+ minute exclusive trying to bash the man’s channel and decisions. I’m not trying to defend Coop, as he’s just another Tuber that I enjoy watching. You even said so yourself that you’ve been watching his videos a long time, so you can see how he’s grown his “brand”. You should be commending him for his success, but instead you throw shade at him for his decisions. You shouldn’t throw hate on another man’s success, even if you don’t agree with how he got there.
I think you’re a very personable and genuine Tuber, I appreciate that about you. You try to deliver what your subscribers want. However, the whole Rogue bit and now this was kind of a turn off to me. I didn’t subscribe to watch a soap opera. I’m here for the gym stuff!

@@ronaldpena6760 Thanks for that. I'm always happy to listen to the adults in the room and the way you give feedback puts you in that category. I will share one thing I told Coop back channel... When you are a huge public figure, emails and YT comments don't make any impact at all. They largely get ignored. I truly wanted to get his attention so that he understood how a lot of people have been feeling (not all, but a lot). The only way to do that with a large public figure is to do it publicly. I also told him that if I misjudged that, and he would have responded to an email, I apologized.
I know it seems like trolling and a large number of people won't believe it was anything else, but I genuinely meant what i said in the video. I'd have said the same thing in the same way to my closest friend. The only proof I have that it wasn't for views is that I haven't made ANY other content about it and am back to my regularly scheduled programming. If I was in it for clout, his 3 response videos are fertile ground for a bunch more content for anyone trying to make this into more clicks and views. We have spoken back channel, and while we don't agree with each other, we both have the same goal of helping folks build awesome garage gyms! There are not hard feelings on either side.

You don't have to agree with his picks, but I don't exactly think he is lying about any of the products.
As for growing up, at 53 why are you wasting your time and effort "calling out" another competitor. Even if your intentions are good...I don't know you, you SAY you aren't in it for clout or views, but why on earth would I believe you? I have no reason to. And that fact seriously hampers how this video will be received by lots of people. So I'll say it again. If you think coop has changed and isn't meeting your arbitrary standard for impartial reviews, well that seems like a good opportunity for you to fill that space seeing how you're a competitor in the say space.
