- United Nations Secretary General António Guterres said the world's fossil fuel industries should be banned from advertising to help save the world from climate change.
Mr Guterres called coal, oil and gas corporations the “godfathers of climate chaos” who had deceived the public for decades.
Just as tobacco advertising was banned because of the threat to health, the same should now apply to fossil fuels, he said.
His remarks were his most damning condemnation yet of the industries responsible for the bulk of global warming.
They came as new studies showed the rate of warming is increasing and that global heat records have continued to tumble.

But between battery technologies and fossil fuels, it's much easier to remove cobalt from batteries than it is from the refining processes needed to produce petrol.
In fact Tesla and BYD already use cobalt free LFP batteries.

Apparently we have 5 years to sort the problem, yet a few months ago it was an immediate danger, four years ago it was three years we had. This deadline just keeps changing and every time we get to a world of disaster and the world does not end, a new world disaster timetable is invented.
No. There are climate scenarios ranging from what's likely to happen, usually ranged between 1 °C to 6+ °C predicted until 2100.
Depending on what climate actions were or weren't taken, scientists adjust the predictions. The danger is not "immediate" it's already happening and have been happening for decades, as the extreme weather caused by climate change has and is causing serious economic and vital damage, and we have been seeing a lot of species going extinct. Unfortunately rather than being climate alarmists, politicians are actually underplaying how significant the issue compared to actual scientific climate predictions, and that 1,5 °C that the UN is aiming for already means trillions of dollars in damages, large areas becoming uninhabitable, and present day on 2024.06.06 we already have 50 million more people globally migrating due to the climate difference we have compared to what we would have without it, the sea levels rose 30 cm since the 1800s, and animal and plants extinction rates are multiple hundredfolds larger than the normal extinction rate, meaning that 1 million species are currenty threatened by extinction according to the IPBES.
Takeaway is: the situation is fucked, but there are still a lot of things we can do to mitigate damage, most relevant of which is reducing consumerism and banning green-house gases. Even after the bans, the heating will continue for a while, but currently not we consume more oil daily every day rather than actually reducing emissions, and this has to change.

Those migrants you talk about are coming to the industrialised countries because of the hope of a better life that industrialisation has been shown to bring. The current ice age the planet is in, is one of the coldest periods that have existed over the last several hundred million years. A s a tropical species humans like warmer weather. When there was a heat wave in Europe recently there was mass migration, but to those hot areas not away from them.

Either way that tank is getting filled again and exactly the same amouont of C02 is being created.
I guess if Tesco is closer than the nearest Shell there'll be slightly less C02 created that way, but don't most regular folks simply go to the one with the best "closeness/cheapness" compromise anyway?
