While I found the Eastern Catholic Liturgy miles different to the RC Mass - I actually found the Orthodox Liturgy to be fuller and miles apart from all of them. Thankfully as a Catechumen I dont have to leave during Liturgy... however, while I cannot yet partake of the full sacramental Mystery, I still benefit greatly and partake just by "being present in His presence". I receive Him fully in my heart and mind, and this alone is still very very powerful to experience! While the faithful are receiving Holy Communion, I go for antidoron and a little wine, and find some little Prosphoras to take home with me. And even that is still highly enriching for the soul, though of course nothing in compare to Holy Communion. No one in this respect is "excluded". Everyone is there together as One Body. I certainly never feel "put out" or "outside" the family circle. Thank you Fr Theophan! Keep em coming! Wishing you peace, from London.
Dear Fr@@theophanmackey3414, the first difference is that RC Mass and BC Liturgy similarly pray for the Pope of Rome and a few varied intercessions for those in political favour (ie: currently Ukraine and Israel). Compare this to Orthodoxy; there are prayers for ALL the Patriarchs, for ALL people at/in conflict, for the monarchy and Government.... to name a few. Plus Byzantine Liturgy on a larger feast day is over within 45mins, whereas Orthodox Liturgy is atleast 1 hour at a bare minimum on a standard feast day. Thats a significant amount of extra prayer. Yes of course, both are using the DL of St John Chrysostom, and that makes it all highly similar. If I had to pick out the main difference, its the direction of petitions and prayers. Ive inadvertently ruffled many feathers when Ive asked "Why did the homily insult and overly condemn Russia and paint Ukraine as a hopeless victim, yet offer no prayer for them all to find peace?" or "Why is there so much emphasis on Israeli suffering and no mention of Palestinian suffering? Why are we talking about Islamic fundamentalism as if every single person in Gaza is a terrorist just because there are lots of Muslims there? What about the Christians who are getting caught up? Shouldn't we be praying for peace?" so perhaps the lack of political-side taking is the main thing Ive noticed in favour of Orthodoxy Liturgy. I drive hard questions at times, I suppose. But Orthodoxy Liturgy is pure praise to God and a very inclusive "catholic" approach (meaning full/whole). Does this help, Fr Theophan? Or have I missed the point? 😀
I am a protestant christian who is attending and being inquirer of the orthodox church and this video helped me to understand the christian orthodox worship.

I’m of Protestant background but I became serious about my walk with Christ this year, and most recently my heart has been opened to studying Orthodox Christianity. I’ve grown up singing a variety of different hymns and songs as my form of worship, but I’ve always felt this certain difficulty of sadly disconnecting emotionally from classical hymns or feeling like singing more modern worship songs was more for myself than for God. I was reading Leviticus, specifically the chapter with the first fruits offerings, by chance the other day and was also prompted in my spirit to rethink my worship. Today I see this video, and it’s given me a lot to think about. Thank you for sharing information about Orthodox Christianity so simply and clearly, I am definitely learning a lot through this channel 🙏🏻 God bless😊
Father, your words are like music to my ears. The eloquence you have and the way in which you poetically describe this dance and song of worship is beautiful. I attend my first Divine Liturgy this Sunday and I look forward to it fervently. God bless you! All glory to him.
I'm greek myself and I've was first raised christian then forced into my parents cult then just abandoned ship once an adult, I'm 36 now and I really wanna be greek orthodox, everything they believe I've always felt in my heart.
Another amazing video. "There's nothing better than that", indeed! I've been Orthodox for 50 years and never realized how Orthros and Liturgy follow the life of Christ. Thank you, Father.
First time I went to an Orthodox Church, it was intimidating for sure- ancient traditions dating back 2000 years ago. What if I got something wrong? What if I embarrassed myself? When I got into the church. There was minutes of nervousness and awkwardness, then peace. I felt like I was in heaven. The incense, the icons, the chanting… I’ve been going every week (minus a handful) since June and have finished catechism. Getting baptized on Christmas Eve. It gets easier and more comfortable over time. People aren’t paying attention to you, honestly. As someone who has been in both situations, a member and an outsider. Go to the back if that makes you feel more comfortable. Hope this helps.
I never appreciated my Orthodox roots & faith as I do now It's a blessing to be born, grow up & stay in the straight path the true Jesus Christ religion the Orthodoxy God bless
I'm no orthodox nor catholic, but a curious person. And i like the way you explained, sir! It all makes sense... Especially at the concert point.. U said there's one major in the house, and that's only God. I liked that!
I’ve been to several Greek Orthodox services in Greece. They reminded me of the pre Vatican II Latin mass, in which the priest faces the tabernacle like a bus driver driving the congregation to Christ. I could recognise most of the parts, that still exist in the modern novus ordo Catholic mass (indroit, kyrie, gloria, psalms, epistle, alleluia, gospel, homily, offertory, credo, communion, dismissal, etc. ) but realised how watered down they have become in modern Catholicism.
I always find myself looking at Orthodox Christianity and I find myself looking at them more and more since the pandemic. I grew up a non-denominational Christian Protestant and our churches are full of life, but recently I feel it’s become a shadow of its former self. I remember going to this mega church preacher and 40%, if not 50% was actual advertisements. Christian advertisements, but it all revolved around money. Not to mention after the pandemic I go to church and I am watching a preacher on a projector. On a side note I feel it’s revolving around money more and more. I almost feel like the preachers are saying if you worship God then you’ll be rich. So, I’m just lost.
May God help us in the search for Him. Take a look at different teachings of Father Anthony Messeh too ruclips.net/video/kwbFQFouzHI/видео.html&ab_channel=OrthodoxSermons
I’m sorry you experienced that. We are not all like that. Of course if we want the gospel of the kingdom to go out it does require money. Evil is well-funded so the gospel should be even better funded! But yes -focus on money, especially if it’s not purpose driven for the kingdom is not good.
@@suzannemartin6817 Evil may be well funded but gospel is preached not with money but with the power of God and Holy Spirit. So all that money collection is not for God's work but individual enrichment.
A little different for my church. We are Western Rite. I think we are the only one for many many states over in Whittier, CA. I love the Orthodox Faith and I am a Catecumen 2 weeks in now along with my fiancee. The Eastern and Western Rites are both beautiful. I would like to see some more Western Rite sprout up only because I think a lot of Protestants and Catholics go through a bit of a culture shock that could scare them off.
The more I dive into orthodox christianity, the more things start to make sense. This video alone is deep, I never looked at communion like that. But then again, I have only recently found, what I ran away from, which was the thing I was looking for all along
I always hear catholic and orthodox christians talking about evangelicals waving lighters and cellphones in the air during worship... I was raised in those churches and I've never once seen that. Surely there are imperfections, holes so to speak in evangelical worship, as there seems to be in virtually every denomination, but I think this critique is far from universal or applicable to most of those types of churches. I'm sure it happens, but not in your typical worship service. Other than that, great video, I'm fascinated by the Orthodox beliefs and rituals, a beautiful form of faith.
John 4:23 [23] But the hour is coming, and NOW is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in SPIRIT and TRUTH; for the Father is SEEKING SUCH to worship Him.
I wish this person knew that there are non-orthodox hubs & leaders around the world who say the same thing and use the same language! I.e. Tim Mackie, Josh White, William McDowell, Michael Koulianos - and on the list goes! May our heavenly source of Joy, Jesus, and Elohim the creator of all creation unite His bride before His Kingdom finally comes 🙏
Although this video is excellent... I would have liked to hear the way Orthodox lay people prepare themselves before approaching the Cup. That should have been part of this video as it is much said about the Eucharist.
There are three. Chrysostom and Basil are completely used during different times in the year, and there is the Liturgy of Saint James which is longer and older and not commonly used. Also during Great Lent we do a presanctified Liturgy written be Saint Gregory Dialogos.
I think the inquirers and catechumen might be best served to actually leave after the Gospel reading. I stayed throughout once upon a tim-far too many times. I always felt uneasy witnessing the parts of the Divine Liturgy that is for the faithful. Almost like I was looking into a neighbor’s window and watching or spying on their private home life…seeing ir hearing things I had no right to see. Just a thought, Father. Mark Thomas
I'm going to my first service this Sun. This is good to know, but what is expected of non-baptized, non-catechized attendants? When/ if to kiss, cross, find a place to camp out, etc.
I love the Orthodox Church..I am a Roman Catholic and the only reason I'm happy to be one is that the services are short but for the rest I am totally for the Orthodox Church and it's Holy Spirituality
What you said during the last minute or so of the video is what will ultimately convince me to identify with Orthodoxy. I’m a very new Christian and I’m wanting to attend church soon. The churches I’ve been too before as a kid lots of times have had those bands and to me that does seem a bit odd. It seems a bit prideful and like they are taking away attention from the Lord, the reason anyone should be going to church in the first place.
Most Orthodox Churches don't actually make catechumens leave during the Liturgy. If you are inquiring or new, you can more than likely stay for the whole Liturgy but not have communion. You can however ask the priest for a blessing.
I think I said in the video, we don't actually make anyone leave. And there are Orthodox who for one reason or another are not prepared for communion. They can still participate in the service without receiving communion.
Where can you find yourself a first cross necklace to buy? A one with good quality that will last? Like the beautiful ones that the priests wears. Maybe not as big but something smaller like them
Hello I’m a newcomer to the Orthodox Church but I’m just really nervous cause I’ve had bad interactions with orthodox Christian’s but I still wanna go cause I wanna seek the lord more, any advice on some things ?
I moved somewhere that has a 100 year old Greek Orthodox Church. Am I allowed to take part in the Eucharist? And what should I wear? Is a collared shirt and slacks and dress shoes good? I was Protestant before and mostly prayed and read the Bible at home, so I'm not sure how a lot of this works especially at a Greek Orthodox church
I’ve been looking at Orthodoxy myself as well, having been raised Catholic before turning away from the church and trying to find my own way. My concern is: which is the one True Church? And it came to me that it’s both, meaning the church is a house long divided. I understand the filioque controversy (which I believe there is a third contention to make if they ever wanna talk about it lol)…… But what do the People think about a reunited Church? Asking for a friend.
Personally I agree with you. I'm Christian looking into orthodoxy. I consider myself orthodox but I still must attend liturgy so I don't it really counts. Maybe I'll go on Saturday if there is a service nearby 😂. But there is nothing wrong with catholics. Orthodox believers consider themselves catholic. The problem is the Rome is a state of heretics. And its sad to see 😢
Church has always been ONE as Lord is not a polygamist... rendering your conclusion false. Old fart of Rome stated: "These [orthodox] churches have an authentic doctrine, but it is static, petrified as it were. They remain faithful to the tradition of the first Christian millennium, but they reject later developments" - Benedict XVI
@ Thank you for your discernment brother. It's been a long month, but after an encounter with the Spirit, I am now in accord that there is only one Church that is the Body of Christ. I now believe any branch that leads to Christ is good (as Catholics believe), though I am still learning my way back to Jesus. Praise be to the Lord!
Tomorrow I will attend the divine liturgy in my first time visiting the eastern orthodox church There is first confession and after that, divine liturgy I am not sure if I am allowed to go to confesion as I am not psrt of the church yet, neither baptised, and I dont know if I can participate on divine liturgy becayse of the same reason Anyone has an advice?
No! Some Orthodox churches have a ''cultural overlay'', different language, different style of chant, different customs, etc, but the Holy Liturgy and the deep services of repentance during Lent at the moment are the same all over the world. And have been for a long time! Perhaps phone the priest and say you would like to go to a service. This video is a gift - and check out others too. The Orthodox Church of America [OCA] has a helpful website too with the daily Bible readings given. [Other Orthodox sites are available too!] . Wear simple modest dark clothes; comfortable shoes are a must! .But go!
I was not raised in the Orthodox church or the Catholic church or in any form or protest or complaint against either. I have a good faith that the Bible is the best revelation of God and His plan for all humanity. Thank you for this video. You refer to Jesus Christ as food, provided by God instead of man. Do you think or teach of Jesus Christ as the sacrifice provided by God? I recently discovered an Orthodox church near me and will possibly attend there.
Attended a Greek Orthodox Church the other day and most of the chants are done in Greek. I have no idea of what’s being said. To me it sounds nice but that’s it. To them it’s much more than nice sounds, it’s a form of worship and they can connect on that level because they understand what’s being chanted. What’s the solution here?
maybe i also need an explanation on why it's not really a bog deal for orthos to read the bible, i have been referring several scriptures to my ortho girlfriend, but i have just realized she don't read them, and on doing some small research online, i found out that they are not encouraged to read the bible by them selves..which i didn't get quite well! ThNks!
I have a serious question. Looking for the right church and the Greek Orthodox Church popped up. Apparently established by the Apostle Andrew. When it comes to worship. What is the Orthodox view on these verses? Should these be forbidden or encouraged? Is it a "right time right place" kinda thing? Thanks in advance, God Bless. (Psa 95:1) Oh come, let us sing to Jehovah; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! (Psa 95:2) Let us come into his face with thanksgiving; let us sing and shout in triumph to him. (Psa 150:1) Praise Jah!N1 Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty expanse.N2 (Psa 150:2) Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness. (Psa 150:3) Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with harp and lyre. (Psa 150:4) Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe. (Psa 150:5) Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals. (Psa 150:6) Let everything that has breath praise Jah!N3 Praise Jah!N4
All bible verses are "encouraged" they would never be "forbidden". First verse: ok, i don't see whats the problem 2nd Verse: nothing controversial 3:praise God 4. praise God.. I don't see what is the problem of these verses. I think its instruments. Find a priest and he will tell you.
It is the body and blood of Christ, and just a very small amount of wine given with a spoon (maybe 1/4tsp), but if you are concerned, please seek out your local priest.
@@theophanmackey3414 for my church it's a little different. I am Western Rite and our priest takes the piece of the body and dips it in the chalice of the blood and then places it in our mouth. I believe the area I am currently living in was hit very hard by covid. As such I believe our priest; to protect the elderly does it in this way now.
Yes there have been. To the extent that in Russian clergy service books from last several hundred years iirc (I think the book of needs), it has directions on what to do when a Eucharistic miracle has taken place. However, it seems people aren't inclined to keep record of these stories in orthodoxy because unlike the West, eucharistic miracles are considered a bad thing (I.e. sign of lack of faith).
@@2000blins when the bread and wine after consecration becomes actual flesh and blood. By orthodox history of occurrences, it happens specifically when the priest (or potentially someone else in the liturgy) is doubting the real presence of Christ.
@@essboarder23 I understand from that perspective why it might be kept quiet, but why on earth would people who believe it a good sign keep it secret. I have never heard of this previously, and it really puts perspective on trying to believe it is just symbolic.
What does the Bible say about Jesus being the only way to the Father? “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
There are a lot of non-orthodox churches that are not concert mega churches. Please don’t dismiss the faith and loyalty to Christ of others who have other styles of services. Thank you
I had this question too, however i suppose Icons are like words, they convey God but aren’t God. For example orthodox do not worship these instead its a way to show love to who is depicted
I’m interested in orthodoxy but I think they have a very large misconception about what worship is like in most Protestant churches. We don’t wave lighters or phones in the air. We feel God’s presence and feel His mercy and grace flowing from the praise we sing. The one thing that makes me not want to convert so far is the arrogance that seems to come along with this way of thinking, literally holier than thou.
I'm genuinely curious, do you think that this is what Jesus intended for the Church to be? "But Lord, we have chanting, we have people with incense on chains swirling it around, we have a liturgy, we have a fancy backdrop, we have pictures we look at and pray to. Have we done it right?" I really don't get where this comes from because it doesn't come from the apostles and it doesn't come from even their successors. None of it leads to righteousness. I looks more like pomp and ceremony. It seems so foreign to Jesus and the prophets and the apostles and especially the early Christians who conquered the Roman empire through peace. Does the pomp and ceremony make a difference or something? It seems no different from the Catholic church in almost every aspect.
i am not an orthodox yet, nor am i educated enough to say or provide an answer, but this is all ancient and traces back to the first church fathers who knew christ. if you were born as a christian a 1000 years ago you would have worshipped this way, the only reason you dont is because you were raised protestant, which is revolutionary and foreign to christianity historically

Orthodox realy dont believe that God recieves worship in anyother expression or communion of any other church? So billions of us are giving glory to christ in vain? Why is it in the old testemant it is okay to sing and dance and play insturments for Yhwh but in the Orthodox tradition its wrong. Only standing and chanting hyms is acceptable to God. I thought God dosent change. Messianic Jews worship Jesus like Jews... Jesus was a Jew and honored his father Yhwh like Jews did was he wrong, Jews dont venerate Icons Yhwh didnt permit images God dosent change are they wrong, Paul wrote Christ is our intercesor and high priest, he said nothing about praying to anyone or anything else was Paul wrong? Protestants do the same how are we wrong? I believe Catholics and Orthodox do have true worship accepted by God and its beautiful but have lost themselves in the traditions of man thinking themselves more righteous then others because of their history just like Pharasees, believing their own authority and traditions are above Gods eternal word(Jesus). Just my take, Im Protestant I've seen the LORD Jesus Crowned in eternal glory in an open eyed vision just praying in my room, Ive been touched by the Holy Spirit and spoke in tounges(only once truly/the rest by faith), I was taken out of my body and showed a vision of Gabriel's trumpet and the rapture of the church, Ive had many biblical & prophetic dreams. I experienced these things they happened to me, its very rare not all the time but its real Jesus is real and alive and ive seen him. Why would I be allowed to experience this if in the Orthodox view im... not in the true church??? Please help me I want to understand I love my Orthodox & Catholic family!
I have to leave my one Orthodox church after he was made aware that I had returned my one service dog before I joined their church and I was in the process of getting a new service dog I was told to leave my service dog at home basically leave my medical equipment at home explain to an ambulance why I almost died in your church because it could have been prevented had my service dog that his medical equipment with me. That is where I am with the Orthodox church and I'm not going to another church finally who says that they welcome me but there are stipulations despite the fact that I don't have kids who are annoying little brats at church who are a Ruckus and destructive and distracting I'm not told to keep my kids in check or to shut them up in church oh no I would never be told that by the priests because kids are allowed to do that during services. However if you have a service dog it's completely different just as a different than if you had somebody who had a wheelchair or an oxygen machine you wouldn't tell them to climb stairs and stuff in the Loft just to be part of the service just to then come all the way down there to get communion after everybody else does and then being told please don't come to Coffee our we don't need any distractions or any issues. So then basically you really don't want me there with my service dog that is medical equipment or what I got to sit in the back out of sight out of mind with this giant pillar blocking part of my vision I have hearing loss additionally besides my chronic medical conditions which is why I have a service dog and yeah I'm being told yeah we welcome you but we really don't want you here attitude because how I'm being told where I got to sit told not to go to coffee hour till I got to wait till everybody please you're basically undermining what God teaches about compassion, empathy humbleness and welcoming all into your church of worship and this is why no one brings their service off to church because we're treated like crap moment we enter an Orthodox Church are medical equipment medical Lifeline is undermined because despite being medical equipment you have separation of church and state so you make up excuses why people are afraid allergic or don't want the breed dogs around them talk shit but oh that's right we can't do anything and we can't speak for ourselves we can't get Ada and HIPAA that are federal and report it because even though it's persecution against handlers with disabilities you get away with it cuz the separation of church and state under Section 3 of ADA federal law you get out of it so you can bully you can tell us where you want us to sit which is bullying to some of these disabled who needs to sit closer to see or hear, you don't want to accommodate despite you saying that you know you welcome me into church but your Bishops say You must welcome as any other person or you don't do that because you want to tell us where we have to sit you want to tell us we can't go up and get communion when everybody else does and you're also telling us that we have to be out of sight of mine and after church we need to just go home instead of going and meeting other parishioners and going to Coffee hour because it would be concerning to you because we have a service dog you want to Lug Us in with a muscle support animals and therapy animals a service dog is nothing like that they require a lot of training thousands and thousands of dollars and they do specific tasks, alerts, helping to get conditions so they don't get progressively worse before you have to call an ambulance they see what's going on in your body the help with coordination and balance for some people like me and then includes cardiac alerts and including getting and retrieving items for me that I need. But nothing that I say about my service dog and what they do for me cuz you can ask because you guys are the exception in the Orthodox Church in the house of worship you're an exception I can show you the Arts script I can have you contact my medical provider I could have you contacted the organization I got my service dog food but it means nothing to you you still on remind me and other thousands of service Dog Handlers and want to do everything you say we welcome you but you really don't accept us you don't accept this in the Orthodox Faith or the church and I'm ready to go elsewhere because of that I am tired of being treated like I am not welcome there because I require a service dog and tomorrow will be the first time my service dog goes to church with me because I had to walk away from my other church when he came for a house blessing and saw my service dog that was in public access training and was getting prepared to go the second book access training meeting you can't just get up and leave for the second one and that's a specific area of training to finish all this before we can even go anywhere like a hospital or a dentist or a church for that matter. My original preset we can take care of you leave your service dog that is medical equipment that is to help you so you don't go into the hospital because my service so I can see what's going on in me leave them at home and not once did he say that but when I went for confession she told me the same thing and it was just like okay apparently now that I require my new service dog and he is in training and when he's ready to come with me to the ER and to the dentist in anywhere else for that matter I'm not permitted to bring my service dog clearly into your house of worship okay fine I will look somewhere else where I can be accepted. I tried to find after waiting for a year and a half another church but once again it's not about well we want you to leave your service I'll get home as well I guess I have no choice but to welcome you with an attitude and will welcome you but you have to sit where we tell you to sit and you have to leave after the services you cannot say for coffee or you cannot stay to get to know the other parishioners but we expect you to donate to our church you're not stopping you from worshiping nope and we're not going to stop you from getting communion but everything else do you have to be out of sight out of mind and that is so degrading and so humiliating I'm so sick of it I am ready to give up on Orthodoxy and live my life the way God teaches me and teaches everybody including priest yet shame on them in the Orthodox Faith who can't accept the fact that there's a difference between service dogs and emotional support and therapy dogs stop looking service dogs with Esa and therapy dogs they are not and you're harming our ability to be able to be accepted into a church.
So much focus on bread (body) and wine (blood). Christ said, “as often as you do THIS…” THIS equals the Passover dinner. The command was given to Jewish people as a reframing of an existing feast. Orthodox service structure is premised on a false assumption.
The following is God’s second Commandment is: No ICONS or carved images! I see icons in Orthodox churches; and icons and carve images in Catholic churches, I guess they think this Commandment doesn’t apply to them? The Second Commandment against idolatry is recorded in Exodus 20:4-6: 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not worship them nor serve them; for 1, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, inflicting the punishment of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing favor to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Could you describe how you found the Byzantine Catholic liturgy different from the Orthodox? I confess I don't think I could enunciate the difference.

Please feel free to ask more questions
Just do it! I’m the same. And it changed my life
Best decision I've made
Father, your words are like music to my ears. The eloquence you have and the way in which you poetically describe this dance and song of worship is beautiful. I attend my first Divine Liturgy this Sunday and I look forward to it fervently. God bless you! All glory to him.

It all seems so intimidating. Thank you for the description and explanation. I wish there was a video of an outsider at a service.
The incense, the icons, the chanting…
I’ve been going every week (minus a handful) since June and have finished catechism. Getting baptized on Christmas Eve.
It gets easier and more comfortable over time. People aren’t paying attention to you, honestly. As someone who has been in both situations, a member and an outsider.
Go to the back if that makes you feel more comfortable.
Hope this helps.

@@E.OrthodoxMHNIN can you identify those things? I’m looking into both denominations right now. Thanks
Wow! Catholic and Orthodox Church the same ,I’m catholic nice to see orthodox church
They are not the same.
Take a look at different teachings of Father Anthony Messeh too
ruclips.net/video/kwbFQFouzHI/видео.html&ab_channel=OrthodoxSermons
Congratulations I bet you're going to become Orthodox congratulations I'm orthodox I've been Orthodox since I was 8 years old and I'm 53 now
I always hear catholic and orthodox christians talking about evangelicals waving lighters and cellphones in the air during worship... Other than that, great video, I'm fascinated by the Orthodox beliefs and rituals, a beautiful form of faith.
well said!
Yes, thank you. I’d like to understand the why and what of orthodoxy but so many videos seem to have this perspective.
I am Catholic of Greek rite in Ukraine. So many things in common with Orthodox church. Christianity is awesome 😊

Although this video is excellent... I would have liked to hear the way Orthodox lay people prepare themselves before approaching the Cup. That should have been part of this video as it is much said about the Eucharist.
How to prepare oneself is a conversation best had with one’s catechist/Father confessor.
Thanks for explaining how many divine liturgies are there? I found st j ohn chrysostom and st basil? Is there a book of liturgies?
There are three. Chrysostom and Basil are completely used during different times in the year, and there is the Liturgy of Saint James which is longer and older and not commonly used. Also during Great Lent we do a presanctified Liturgy written be Saint Gregory Dialogos.
Service books have the liturgies.
There is also a liturgy of St. Mark.
Can anyone explain the accent that I hear when I listen to Orthodox Christians online?
I think the inquirers and catechumen might be best served to actually leave after the Gospel reading. I stayed throughout once upon a tim-far too many times. I always felt uneasy witnessing the parts of the Divine Liturgy that is for the faithful. Almost like I was looking into a neighbor’s window and watching or spying on their private home life…seeing ir hearing things I had no right to see. Just a thought, Father.

Can you make a video on all the things an orthodox male who is living in the US should be wearing?
What you said during the last minute or so of the video is what will ultimately convince me to identify with Orthodoxy. I’m a very new Christian and I’m wanting to attend church soon. The churches I’ve been too before as a kid lots of times have had those bands and to me that does seem a bit odd. It seems a bit prideful and like they are taking away attention from the Lord, the reason anyone should be going to church in the first place.
Do the people who can’t participate in communion return to the service?
Most Orthodox Churches don't actually make catechumens leave during the Liturgy. If you are inquiring or new, you can more than likely stay for the whole Liturgy but not have communion. You can however ask the priest for a blessing.
@@andys3035 Thank you.

I think I said in the video, we don't actually make anyone leave. And there are Orthodox who for one reason or another are not prepared for communion. They can still participate in the service without receiving communion.

I understand the filioque controversy (which I believe there is a third contention to make if they ever wanna talk about it lol)……
But what do the People think about a reunited Church?

Anyone has an advice?
We have a Macedonian Orthodox Church nearby. Do you have to have Macedonian roots to go to that church?
Wear simple modest dark clothes; comfortable shoes are a must! .But go!
Thanks a lot!!
There are a LOT of orthodox churches with the liturgy in English. Google around some and you’ll find one

I have a question, has ever been a eucharistic miracles in the orthodox church?
Yes there have been. To the extent that in Russian clergy service books from last several hundred years iirc (I think the book of needs), it has directions on what to do when a Eucharistic miracle has taken place. However, it seems people aren't inclined to keep record of these stories in orthodoxy because unlike the West, eucharistic miracles are considered a bad thing (I.e. sign of lack of faith).

Why do people call it converting to orthodoxy? It is Christianity?

I’m interested in orthodoxy but I think they have a very large misconception about what worship is like in most Protestant churches. We don’t wave lighters or phones in the air. We feel God’s presence and feel His mercy and grace flowing from the praise we sing. The one thing that makes me not want to convert so far is the arrogance that seems to come along with this way of thinking, literally holier than thou.
That and kissing statues
So cool that Zach galifianakis found god and the Orthodox Church.
Let me ask you... do you know of any texts written by the Apostles that are not in the Bible.?
i am not an orthodox yet, nor am i educated enough to say or provide an answer, but this is all ancient and traces back to the first church fathers who knew christ.
if you were born as a christian a 1000 years ago you would have worshipped this way, the only reason you dont is because you were raised protestant, which is revolutionary and foreign to christianity historically

I believe Catholics and Orthodox do have true worship accepted by God and its beautiful
but have lost themselves in the traditions of man thinking themselves more righteous then others because of their history just like Pharasees, believing their own authority and traditions are above Gods eternal word(Jesus).
What on earth is this wall of text?! And yammering on about... a dog? Good grief.
@@Yesica1993 they are his real heartfelt concerns. You are no Christian.
The Second Commandment against idolatry is recorded in Exodus 20:4-6:
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not worship them nor serve them; for 1, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, inflicting the punishment of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing favor to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Keep reading that chapter and God describes how the angels are to be carved in the tabernacle.
You don’t have worship ! What you say is nonsense and pipi de chat
Do you guys feature any orthodox priests from New York City? I’ve been looking on videos but I can’t find any. Please help 🙏🏼 thank you and God bless

boomerkobold3943 what about God?
Ah yes, empty ritual, with zero actual teaching. Unless your priest is on his A game, I guess 😂😂😂
You should attend a service, they are full of scripture and prayer, very encouraging and instructive.
What a stupid ideas ! You are speaking like Satan who want to destroy the Church of God !
God this is stupid
