I appreciate the thought and skill that went into this project. I have all the components to do this, have not yet built it. Excellent presentation.

You've done a superb job on that one! I must get round to using all the large bore copper pipe I bought long ago for that exact purpose! I see you have basically the same lathe, mill and drill as I own, handy to note!

this guy is good! started with enough materials for one, and ended up with two and a painted one! thats amazing ^^
but really that copper one is sick ^^ good job.

I wanted to go with a copper boiler but material cost drove me to steel :) The boiler for my combined heat and electricity assembly is a 3 cubic feet pressure vessel volume and is a water tube boiler, it has been pressure tested at 600 psi and I have a 250 psi relief valve on it. I run it on dead local wood. I like your project and your boiler, great job you did on it.

Could you make some drawings of how you made it ? I'm actually Lookin for a model of some sorts but the ones i found are not even rated above 60psi of working load with a safety release of 80 psi...and there's a guy who would sell me a 5hp twin so it would need those higher pressures..

Hello, I noticed that you made very fine boiler caps. Im just starting out and would love some insight on how you did this. Also, how thick of copper do you use for the end caps?
    Thanks a bunch!

What do you recommend for cleaning off all the excess solder and polishing up, especially around corners and tight spaces? When making valves, how tight does the center rod has to be to prevent leaks? I know its suppose to be threaded. Do you use compression fittings where you connect the tubings to fittings?

    • @ArenalesRailway

I used 10% or 15% of Sulfuric Acid and 85% or 90% of water mixed in a recipient

    • @Fly4aWhiteGuy
      @Fly4aWhiteGuy 9 лет назад

tiredfingers99 You can use a sharpie pen to mask off where you don't want the solder to flow.
I'm sure there are even better masking methods, but the sharpie is an old slot car builder's trick.

Yes a very good video but a little more detail would be good--eg making the ends for the boiler I assume you metal spun them on the lathe-it would have been good to see that..
But thanks for having a go and putting it on youtube---I could not do it because I do not own a camera and no expertise in camera work either..Perhaps in another video you could do the intricate parts that were not shown--I for one would be delighted to watch it..

Hello my name is Leo your your boiler is so good, I want to
built a live steam locomotive, I have disponible all metallic machine like lathe
and vertical drill ecc ecc to realize all pieces necessary, but I need
about project and construction plan. I think that to begin will be
sufficient realize a locomotive with not more of 3 axes. Now have you
disponible a project/power plan of construction ecc ecc for a locomotive
with 7 3/4" gauge that can be able to start for me??? Thank so much Leo

  • @articulatedloco

You buy your copper from metal merchants. The Silver solder best for this is 42% or 45% silver for good flow & penetration. 35 % silver type is good where a good fillet is required. The The former types melt & flow at the same time. The latter melts but wont flow immediately until higher heat is reached. I recommend Alec Farmers book Model Locomotive Boiler making . He is an expert. Published by Alec F Farmer. Marston Green, Solihull, West Midlands, B37 7HT, U.K.
