I'm still dropping my jaw looking at what Guerrilla have achieved with their inhouse engine. Horizon 2 and now this remaster are the most beautiful open world games I've ever seen. No other game can beat this gorgeous eye candy.
the first thing i do before i buy a somewhat new or graphic intensive game is check if you have a video on it else i'm not buying it 😂😂 all jokes aside is would really apreciate a video on metro exodus (enhanced pc edition if possible) because the graphics are so complex and dlss makes everything into a blurry mess 20 meters away from the camera. Yes, I've also noticed the exact same issue with AMD's Frame Generation on my RTX 3070 Ti. It works for a few seconds and goes down. This issue wasn't present in Forbidden West.
FSR3 framegen works for me... however, it uses extra 1GB of vram compared to without FG... 1080p high preset, vram usage was about 8.8-9GB then jumps to 9.8-10GB when enabling FG... So there I guess the fps slowly dropping because it was running out of vram to run FG... (I use an old RX Vega 56 with HBCC enabled)
Thank u! I wanted to buy the remastered version but now after I saw that I need to set textures on medium I changed my mind. I prefer not to play the game at all than to play it with medium textures. I have the same GPU.
The official FSR FG is broken in this game. The GPU power suddenly get rekt with it enabled that I had to use Nukem's Mod instead. It just works. 11:04 This scene is the first time that I think the remaster actually looks great.
Ive been playing with dlaa on so far, but the games TAA actually looks pretty good too in your comparison. Do you have extensive tests with both? Would you recommend one over the other?

Imagine paying for the upgrade of the game with a 8gb GPU, only to be stuck with worse textures than the base game. Nixxes don't give a fuuck about 8gb users. Their texture system is broken. And VRAM consumption in their games is usually very high. This game does not even have RT yet it's trashing 8g of VRAM...
yess... high preset at 1080p native TAA uses around 9GB of vram... with FSR3 framegen it uses around 10GB of VRAM... its becoming the norm that 8GB cards are now 1080p medium cards
im sure that its possible to optimize some Vram usage but as the texture get higher quality they just need more Vram - i think its not ideal that some cards have less VRAM then they should but you can also see high as normal and the ultra texture setting as an nice extra for those who have enought VRAM - Why limit Textures at 8GB if there are cards with more wich are capable of using better textures. Limiting to 8G would partly eliminate the advantage of 16GB Cards
You can blame people actually buying 8gb cards and accepting that the 4060 went down to an 8gb buffer, and actually buying them. Ngreedia thanks you all.

What I did in forbidden west to get a framerate I was happy with with stable frametime was RTSS cap the game at 75 and tell it to dynamically go to 85 (or whatever the strict option was that it would give me), I’m assuming that the game knows not to drop base resolution to hit 85 but to hit 75 when doing that. Does that sound right? It seemed to be somewhere between balanced and quality mode when doing that and I’m assuming if it didn’t work it would be super blurry and glitch out thinking it’s not hitting its target. I hope this made sense.
Are High textures ok on 8GB GPUs if you play at 1080p? Would be infuriating if they replaced the original on storefronts with a version that has issues on lower VRAM cards, not surprising with how Sony's been pushing their luck.
The answer to "Why they remastered this?" is: They already upgraded the engine, environment assets and characters for forbidden west. All they had to do was plug in the new engine.
Damn, seems they added the forced hero lighting on her hair that Forbidden West has. It's not as intense thankfully, but it is there. Original didn't have this "issue".
*FRAME GENERATION...* Warning... If you enable Frame Gen then the lag (how the game responds) is slightly worse than HALF of the FPS number you see on screen. (every 2nd frame is "fake", plus there's added latency to generate that frame). For example, let's say you got 50FPS, then turn on FG and get "70FPS" well the game will respond similar to how it would at closer to 30FPS. The MOTION will seem much smoother visually but responsiveness is worse. Plus, you'll get visual ARTIFACTS. Even DLSS isn't perfect. If you have an RTX40 series stand in the bushes and you'll see smearing between Aloy and the bushes in motion. WHEN should you use it? Well, personal preference I guess. I can't seem to find a use for it. To me, the best use case would be a SLOWER PACED game where the lag doesn't matter so much. So for example, getting 80FPS after Frame Gen is enabled if the smoothness of panning etc is worth it vs the extra lag.
Basically the higher options are for favor quality/graphics and the lower options for favor performance. If you have to choose between these two then try with quality first, if the fps still not enough then go with favor performance. 🤷🏻♀️🥴
