    Great video bud I own flooring stores one thing I would watch out for is when you put pressure on the skirting to push down before fastening I had a flooring complaint rejected from manufacturer last week, the independent inspector stated skirting was fitted too tight to the floor stopping any expansion to be fair I thought it was ridiculous as expansion wasn't the issue (poor quality locking system in my opinion) but keep an eye out if you have any issues if you generally use quickstep your on good footing anyways lol

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  Год назад

      Hi Eric🖐Appreciate your comment, especially as you are in the flooring game👍I probably fit upwards of 50 floors a year, all with Quickstep, and, as yet have only had to go back to one, (which ironically, I got one of my subbies to fit), because it had expanded slightly and popped up in a hallway due to being fitted to tight in certain places😬I suspect the hallway/entranceway was getting a bit more moisture from wet feet etc🤔 Thanks again for the great points in your comment and for watching🤩Cheers Del

    That sort of flooring has got better over the years. From the original glue up. Then the spring clips. To the clip lock system. Have done miles of the stuff. But personally hate it. Wouldn't put it in my house. Always sounds hollow when you walk on it, like drummy tiles. Very thin veneer that if you scratch it can't be touched up. Damage a board. Pain to get out. It can look effective. And the colours have improved. But it doesn't like getting wet if you have a house water incident. Doesn't like being in full sun. Say big patio glass door. Horrible stuff to retro fit to a house with skirt already down. Then you get into the trim over expansion gap scenario. Looks good when you first lay it. But over the years I have seen some horror stories. Some fitter induced. Owner abuse. Or just product not fit for purpose. Repairs never easy. Still not in my house.

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  Год назад

      Hi Dave🖐Taking on the points of your comment, I do have to say that this Quickstep flooring is VERY hardwearing and takes an ABSOLUTE beating and still looks good, and, we fitted a flat out with it a few years ago which flooded leaving the flooring submerged for a weekend. We pulled it all up, dried the flat out, and then refitted the flooring😵Couldn't believe it was still ok🤯Thanks for your comment bud😎Cheers

    Great video as always. As far as expansion on laminate flooring,if it needs relief in the future it's just a case of cutting in a door threshold here and there.

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  Год назад +1

      Absolutely Clint👍On my own jobs I tend to put a break in a hallway like this with a threshold bar over it like you say, but the builder wanted it all in one, and I'm pretty confident it'll be fine👌Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

    • @garnhamr
      @garnhamr Год назад +1

      i got told it needs a break if it's over 8m. but like been said, you can adjust it later on if needed. take the skirting off on one end and cut a bit more off if it starts compressing and squeeking in the middle.

      @@garnhamr Hi Kradd👍Yeah, I've read something like that too, but in my experience, it's pretty stable and doesn't move much at all👊Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del

      @@garnhamr you can just be really generous with the perimeter gap to start with too. As long as the skirting covers. One step further would be to releive the plaster. But that's taking it a bit too far
