It always amazes me that you are able to get a full length movie down to a “RUclips-friendly” half hour or so video… kudos on the undoubtably arduous editing process 👏🤜🏼🤛🏻
Some RUclips reactors are intelligent enough to be able to do a hour and 15-minute movie reaction on RUclips that impresses me a hell of a lot more than a 30-minute reaction to a two-hour movie. Even more impressing are the individuals that do a two-part movie reaction each part being at least 45 to 55 minutes long and these are on RUclips.
I'll never forget watching this when it was released, and the whole theater going silent when Caesar yelled, "NO!!!" for the first time. Then hearing everyone immediately cheer once he hits Dodge and starts releasing the apes. It was quite the experience. I think this is an underrated and really impactful trilogy. 👏👏👏
You might have cut it for time or missed it, but I'll never forget the scene of Will's neighbor inadvertently spreading the disease through the flight routes. Especially the credit sequence showing it spread across the globe. It's quite the experience rewatching that scene 9 years later.
I recently discovered that the scene of Caesar yelling "NO" was inspired by a monologue from the original Planet of the Apes trilogy. A monkey named Cornelius explains to humans how apes became the dominant race. He says that the monkeys started to learn from the humans and understood that they were being abused, that's when one of the monkeys received the order from a human and he simply said "No".
This was the epitome of "turning lemons into lemonade." He goes from hitting rock bottom to "I'm gonna take over this whole block, and it'll be like taking candy from a baby." As much as I love Gollum, I think Ceasar might just be Andy Serkis's best performance. He is absolutely phenomenal in these movies. I just watched these about a month ago, and man, they're so good. As far as big budget movies from the 2010s go, I feel like this Apes trilogy gets criminally overlooked and underappreciated for how good they really are.
Cesar going from being happy in the attic, to feeling like a pet, to realizing he's a prisoner is just so damn compelling! One of my favorites of all time!
Legit one of my favourite trilogies OF ALL TIME. Amazing movies. Sublime characters 🤌 I guarantee by the 2nd movie you'll forget youre even watching CGI characters The fact that they were able to revive a franchise like this which easily couldve been corny or weird, desrves so much respect
That first scene with Caesar speaking was filmed so incredibly well, the way the music drove up the tension and it zoomed in low on his face was fantastic
I watch this movie every day for a summer with my grandpa he loved this movie and loved Caesar. He thought he was the one of the greatest characters he ever saw. He love buck (the gorilla 🦍) and cried when he died
This was one of the movies I was pleasantly surprised by when it came out. I honestly expected a run of the mill remake cash grab, but it was actually really, really engaging. This film alone made me an advocate for a mo-cap Oscar category if they aren’t going to give proper attention to the acting Serkis and others do.
@@JamesVSCinema 100%. John Wick was another one. I expected a run of the mill Keanu action movie (which I’ll never complain about), not a new standard in modern action filmmaking.
The next two movies are even better. Koba turns into one of the greatest villains on screen ever, and Caesar becomes... well, you'll see. Welcome to the Planet of the Apes !
I genuinely believe that this trilogy is one of the best trilogy in the history of film making. It's really rare to see a trilogy where not only is every entry really good, but they actually get better with each installment.
Sweet! This was an excellent trilogy.. underrated. Some of these rewatches give you a chance to notice clips you may have missed before. Great reaction per usual, fam. You have been tearing up the franchises lately.
Saw this with my brother and I was amazed on how perfect this movie was! It shows you the true origin of the Planet Of The Apes saga. There's a clever Easter egg in the film where it states that the ship, ICARUS, having launched from Earth on its way to Mars, ends up disappearing without a trace.
Also, that foreshadowing (I guess) with Draco's character saying, "Get your hand off of me, you damned dirty ape!". I hope James does the original Apes films.
Starring James Franco as a neuroscientist looking for a cure for alzheimers syndrome. Also featuring Andy Serkis as Caesar who has developed sophisticated intelligence
Whats beautifully done well is how they differentiate Caesars life experience compared to basically almost every other ape. For example, those other apes might have been smart, but on the bridge they wouldn’t have known a ambush was waiting for them because they don’t necessarily know how the police operate. With Caesar however, he was raised as a human. Therefor knowing how they operate in certain situations. Its also cool how every ape follows him without question. Those apes at the zoo weren’t necessarily smart because Caesar didn’t use the gas on them but somehow they still followed him because in nature every pack has an alpha, and with Caesars actions and presence they determined that Caesar was the leader which in turn got them to follow him.
I expected a huge "Yo" at Caesar's "No" but "shivers" is good, too. That really is an excellent moment. The slow build up, the shock and then the ramp up. When I saw this in the theatre on both occasions (I had to bring another friend to see this movie), you could hear a pin drop at that moment.
I think him doing that last "Ask for permission" is almost like him saying, "Do you believe in me to do this? Can I be free forever? Will you let me go?" But its so simple yet meaningful bc he still looked up to him as a "dad" if you think about it
Been recommended this film trilogy for ages, glad it's coming up in the reaction scene and a bunch of people are watching them. Damn excited to see your reaction too, James. These are some complex and emotional films, especially when Matt takes over, although I'll admit I have great love for the original. Alltime favorite trilogy.
Some of Andy Serkis' best work! "Caesar is home..." *chills* Shan recently watch Ben Hur! I'd love to get your take on that Heston classic as well as The Ten Commandments (Easter is close) and Soylent Green!
For me, these movies get better with each one. Excited to see your videos on this trilogy. The next movie just steps up pretty much everything. You can tell it’s a different director seconds into the next movie.
Yesss!!! I love this trilogy! I have to admit your comment about being checked into a mental hospital had me laughing so hard. 🤣🤣 Also the bit about humanity being screwed if we didn’t have intelligence above animals. How true is that. o__o Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to this!
I grew up on the original films. Bought the box set DVD from the mall. As cheesy as they could be I loved those movies. Went into this series with no expectations other than wanting to see Andy Serkis work. These are now one of the best trilogies ever made. Matt Reeves made some beautiful films with the next two.
I've been watching your channel for a while, this is by far my favorite reaction you've done. Maybe it was the editing, but I was with you the whole time. And I LOVED your Fargo reactions, but this was seriously well done. Now I have to rewatch this movie.
Toby Kebbell did the mocap and voice for Koda in the next two films he also played Kong in the Monsterverse. He was in a great film called Rock n Rolla that is a bit underrated.
I believe Caesar is way smarter than Koba, since my boy Caesar was born with the 1.12 and then also breathed in the 1.13 while he was making the rest of his caged apes smart. Plus Caesar unlike the rest recieved an education as well as a loving family. All hail the great Caesar 💚
Ohhhhhh yeah. One of the best Hollywood trilogies in years, maybe the best since LOTR, outside Dreamworks. Cannot wait for you to check out the other two; each one is exponentially more hype than the last.
The end credits scene is the best part. At the end we see the idiot neighbor leaving on his job despite being infected. He was the main source of the spread of the plague. Its like watching the spread of covid from one central source to everywhere in the world.
Mentally they are not as far off as we would like to think. There was an orangutan in Omaha in the 60"s who hid a piece of wire in his mouth and would use it to let himself out of his enclosure. It took keepers a while to figure out how he was doing it. I really enjoy this series and I love that they did a throwback to the original Charleton Heston version with the "damn dirty ape" comment. This was fun to watch, thanks!
Was working as a support worker for a guy with dementia when this came out. I guess it made the main (human) characters motivation hit a bit harder. Would love to see your take on “The Father” with Anthony Hopkins. That movie genuinely had me crying in the theater, but the way the set design also tells the story is astonishing. If anyone on the Patreon has seen it, can they get it into the running please?

I got one for you if you haven't seen Basic Instinct then you must....yes it is very sexually graphic but it is a brilliant film aside from that.Sharon Stone gives a tour de force as the ultimate femme fatale manipulating everyone and every situation. I will also ask the question for you to answer after watching.....would the movie be as impactfull if the sex scenes were not as strong because the script and the acting is rock solid and also where is your cut off point as a film maker with regards to this
I'm glad you're watching these; The Lord of the Rings is the best trilogy of all time and I consider the new Planet of the Apes trilogy to be the second greatest. It gets better and better. Matt Reeves' stuff is 10/10. Andy Serkis proves he is the best mo-cap actor of all time.
Good news man, I might be accepted for a job in the next few days. Hopefully this could mean joining the Patreon community in the not too distant future!
Thanks for your time and thoughts as always. Great stuff. You should consider watching the orginal 5 POTA movies, especially the first one, they are great films that has a lot to say about a lot of things. As always, stay awesome, stay genuine.. much love
That scene where Caesar says “NO” still gives me chills.
Bruh same never fails
My jaw DROPPED
Word. For about two years I watched this movie everytime it was on. I find it amazing.
Yea. I definitely would’ve needed new pants if that was real lol fantastic scene.
When this happened at the theater there was a palpable energy change in the room. One of my favorite all time cinema experiences.

Hahaha it’s always great when others know the work behind the videos haha. Thanks brotha! 🙏🏽
Yo for reals, I'm super big on how a reactor edits their video. It definitely can make or break a reaction vid for me.
Some RUclips reactors are intelligent enough to be able to do a hour and 15-minute movie reaction on RUclips that impresses me a hell of a lot more than a 30-minute reaction to a two-hour movie. Absolute chills. I think I was in theaters when that happened too. Quiet as hell
Yessss!! That moment, specially being at a movie theater, was so amazing!!
I like that the "Get your paws off me, you damn dirty ape!" line was right before this, thus catching everyone way off guard when Caesar bellows "NO!"
"Take your dam stinking paw off of me you ape" was the same line used by the actor Charleston Heston in the original movie, Planet of the Apes.
You might have cut it for time or missed it, but I'll never forget the scene of Will's neighbor inadvertently spreading the disease through the flight routes.
Especially the credit sequence showing it spread across the globe. It's quite the experience rewatching that scene 9 years later.
yeah, definitely a whole different experience watching those end credits during covid. very haunting.

He says that the monkeys started to learn from the humans and understood that they were being abused, that's when one of the monkeys received the order from a human and he simply said "No".
In the Original Planet of the Apes, the Apes described the moment Apes took over was when one Ape named Caesar said No.

His performance in this trilogy is fucking captivating man, but damn is it hard for me to decide if I think it’s better than Gollum
Most people I know, LOVE this movie! It's still underrated 💯
DUUUUUUDE You are gonna LOVE the second movie. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a perfect film. I can’t wait.
Cesar going from being happy in the attic, to feeling like a pet, to realizing he's a prisoner is just so damn compelling! One of my favorites of all time!

Absolutely. I actually mention this here or in the uncut version
You’re reacting to all my favorite movies lately!!
That first scene with Caesar speaking was filmed so incredibly well, the way the music drove up the tension and it zoomed in low on his face was fantastic
Just watched these movies, perfect timing
Two actors who can act with their whole bodies are Andy Serkis and Raoul Trujillo (he played Zero Wolf in Apocalypto and Queequeg in Moby Dick).
the next movie, the apes are picture perfect and flawless. a masterpiece
I watch this movie every day for a summer with my grandpa he loved this movie and loved Caesar. He thought he was the one of the greatest characters he ever saw. He love buck (the gorilla 🦍) and cried when he died

I don’t blame you. Definitely turned the tide for CGI characters as a whole in the mainstream if I’m being honest.
@@JamesVSCinema 100%. John Wick was another one. I expected a run of the mill Keanu action movie (which I’ll never complain about), not a new standard in modern action filmmaking.

The track at the end called 'Ceaser's Home' is actual perfection
One of the best trilogies of recent memory
Don’t blame ya! It’s pretty damn great
I was a huge fan of the original movies...and was honored to be an extra on the Golden Gate Bridge scene...spoiler...
It was a giant green screen.
The next two movies are even better. Koba turns into one of the greatest villains on screen ever, and Caesar becomes... well, you'll see. Welcome to the Planet of the Apes !

Exactly. One of the reasons why I love tackling these films again. It’s been yeeeears so it’s always cool coming back and learning.

I was blown away the first time I saw this. Such a great movie that exceeded my expectations in every regard.

Gotta say that this trilogy really cemented Serkis as the master of mo-cap. By the end I’d forgotten that the apes are cgi.
Love this film! I get so hyped when Ceasar stands up and says no!

Ayyyy!
I do love this Trilogy.
I do hope you give the original Planet of the apes from 1968 a watch someday.
