@@GenX_US_MarineI’ve never been in the military, my mom was devastated when my older brother enlisted, as it was right after 9/11 so she was rightfully worried sick about her oldest boy, therefore she made me promise her that I’d never join and I respected her wishes. But I’ve always been fascinated by what goes on in marine boot camp. Would you care to elaborate on what are some of the craziest things you’ve witnessed?

You think you’d laugh until you actually got caught laughing. Another recruit made me laugh, a drill instructor saw it.. he made me fill up a yellow mop bucket then zig zag through each rack in the squad bay with the bucket extended. If my arms dropped (and they did) I had to start over, and had to yell “ha ha ha” the entire time. After that - I was brought up to the quarter deck for another 8 minutes of love. I never laughed again.

I went through USMC boot camp in 1964. The following is the most memorable experience of my first night. It was about 0300 when the drill instructors came to get us and take us to our new barracks. They screened and cursed at us to wake us up. It was frightening because no one expected it. A recruit in the top bunk bed across from me remained in bed. Cpl Larsen, one of our drill instructors grabbed the recruit by his ears and threw him on deck (floor). He picked him up and slammed into a wall locker, calling him several different kinds of SOBs and MFs. That was the first terrorizing exprience I had in the Corp.

I remember that almost like it was yesterday. You arrive in the middle of the night and from that point on you're running around all over the place making phone calls home, getting your hair cut, uniforms, filling out forms, and goes on all day. You don't end up going to bed until later that night. I don't think that I was ever so tired than on my first day/night in boot camp, lots of hurry up and wait and trying hard not to fall asleep.

"(his feet were in a II shape and should be in a V shape), and he hits a spinning kick in the chest) this is better than any screams helps to learn all the necessary lessons)
