I am 28, fully fit 'n' all, struggling to find a job doing anything right now. Doesn't matter what age you are, something is desperately wrong with the recruitment process in the country right now
Well pleased fade to grey, I’d take marks &spenser job,yes your accounting job might be temp to jan where as the marks job will open up a new world in retail and then you ll have experience to work for other major retailers and the hours to fit,
I am 63 yrs young. I have just left a 25yr railway career behind me. Got interviewed and job offer for the water treatment works. No mention of age on CV...or at interview. Just a mindset. Be positive...and broaden your horizons.
Job hunting and waiting for an offer after interviews is like waiting for a bus... nothing for ages then two come at once.. Good luck with whatever you take on.
This is good news well done sir, I've been out of work myself for almost 6 months now in my late 20s only recently managed to pick up some zero hrs work doing field marketing. Anything to keep me busy whilst still job-hunting and I've enrolled myself onto a government-funded software developer course to upskill myself. Watching your vids inspire me to do more and keep a positive mindset keep up the good work.
Great news! You've made and it's paying off. I'll soon be in a similar situation and your energy and fortitude is very inspirational to me. Prayers for your Mum and family as you deal with this difficult chapter of life. Stay strong! Blessings to you and your family.
I went for a series of interviews for what was a zero-hour shelf-filling job at Tesco in 2011. I was told I had been successful and i would be alerted when any hours were available. I am still waiting
Excellent news for you that you have a job to start on Tuesday. Best wishes and fingers crossed for the weekends at M&S, but don't wear yourself else, especially with going to see your mum in hospital as well. ❤️
The only interview I had where I failed to get a job was M&S when I was 18, due to "lack of product knowledge" since then I've been a bus driver/coach driver/hgv driver now I'm a train driver. Maybe retail isnt for me lol.
Recommendation, if you get the M&S role and its perminent, go with that, its long term im guessing. Otherwise after a few months you could end up jobless again. If they let you do weekends around the accountant job, could always ask for more hrs down the road. This is assuming you get the M&S job but make sure you think long term and not just big bucks short term. Just a thought.
Congrats on the job. I think the M&S job sounds good but when another company gets back to you quicker, it's logical to take that one. If M&S offer weekends too, even better still - but just be careful of burnout! Sorry to hear about your mum's health too. All the best.
Finally, good news hey, it maybe only a temporary Xmas role but hopefully the agency will get you more work in 25 and hope your parents get better there is nothing worse in life than losing your dad 😔 luckily my mammy is still alive n kicking at 77
I left school in 1983 at 16 got a job and then left to work elsewhere after 5 years , but the interview process was always stressful and they seem to ask questions that bore no relevance whatsoever to the job. Fortunately from around 30 years old I worked for myself so bypassing all the stuff until my recent retirement. I don’t envy anyone having the soul destroying process of applying for jobs.
M&S seasonal work should be possible alongside your finance role. They will be interested in you working peak times and maybe the unsociable hours too so that may fall outside of a 9-5 role....... allowing you to do both and maximise your opportunity to secure a permanent offer in the new year. Also, M&S recruit alot of permanent roles from their seasonal worker cohorts so it might be in your best interests not to pass the opportunity up if offered a role. You're right about the staff discount too. That's and alot of other great perks. Best of luck.
As an autistic adult at the age of 44 I could never do retail again or deal with group interviews. But then again no employer would hire me anyway. So its a moot point >_>
That's good news about the financial role. Like myself, it's short term position but will pay the bills etc. Hoping you land M&S too. I think that may be very rewarding and of course they will look after you too I assume with a co pension etc.Good luck either way.
Congratulations on your new job. Agree it's harder to move jobs as you get older. My observation though is quite a few employers go for older employees, they prefer their work ethic and dedication to the job.
I’m an Accountant/ Finance Business Partner/ Finance Project Manager in Pharmaceuticals. My current contract is due to finish in Dec after 8 years. Not looking forward to looking for a new role at 52 from all I’ve heard. Not putting any age related information on the CV and only including 15 years career history. Hopefully I can pay for someone in early 40s who had a hard life. Need to work another 8 years at my current day rate before I can semi retire
Firstly congratulations on the new job contract. Please please preserve with your M&S application. 12 years ago I worked for the M&S Head Office in Paddington Square London, AND I saw LOTS of senior management who had COME from the shop floor - senior directors across the entire business had the opportunity to come up from the shop floor into roles in the head office. Quite impressive, as I’ve worked for other retail head offices and NEVER seen this sort of career trajectory before.
I'm 35 and unemployed. I've had 4 job interviews in the past 2 weeks. 10-15 or so years ago I used to pretty much ace any job interview and get offered the role, but this time around I've had 7 or 8 job interviews and had no success with any of them. Two of the jobs that I interviewed for told me I interviewed well but they had approx 100 people apply for the position. I go through periods of wondering if its me, but obviously it says more about the state of the economy and job market in this country these days. I've just applied to do sorting for Royal Mail over the Christmas period to at least get some income going but I've heard that even that is ridiculously competitive these days.
A recruitment consultant I know told me that he hadn't seen it like this for 20 years of his career. I had two recent interviews following redundancy and I've been completely ghosted! No decision, no feedback and one of them felt like a really positive interview too!
@@bigwideworld387 same here. I had an interview two weeks ago which I thought went really well. The interviewers were saying things like "brilliant!" In response to my answers. They told me I'd hear back by early last week but never got back to me despite assuring me that I'd get feedback. When I emailed them to follow up I got a response saying they'd get back to me by the end of this week. These things really dent your confidence especially when you come out of an interview thinking it went well, only to be completely ghosted. Annoying as hell.
Why on earth do they want someone just for a few months, you'll just be getting into the job avd getting laid off again. Life is never easy as a job hunter is it!
Well done, that's great news. 🙂 From your demeanour at the start I thought you had been turned down, but perhaps the timing is not perfect, considering the situation with your mother - time is more precious now. It must seem like everything is happening at once - you will need to pace yourself carefully. Be careful not to stretch yourself too thin. Fingers crossed the new assignment will go well for you.

Hi mate, as your channel is growing, I wouldn’t be mentioning stuff like the m&s discount card whilst still in a live process. Otherwise, keep the good content up!
Congratulations on the accountancy role; however, i doubt m&s will agree to you just doing weekends because they need you to fit in with their shift patterns and not them fitting in with you😮!
I had a festive interview at M&S food two weeks ago and thought it went really well but unfortunately I have not heard back. That was two weeks ago! I just can't get a job anywhere and been looking for 7 months now😢

The "years young" thing is so lame. Gag me with a spoon...
