I always wondered how that wave looked on a big swell and wether it was worth the trip (I live in Biarritz). Seeing the crowd you just saved me some time :) thanks!

Nice vid. I'd always prefer to have a crappier wave on a nice quiet day with no one out, than a perfect wave that's super crowded.

A point usually wraps the swell down a headland like this video, a rivermouth (mundaka) is quite different. Unless the river mouth is just a gap in a pointbreak haha

Your point about the locals setting the standard is a good one. In Hawaii they set a very high standard, and as such so long as you're respectful and friendly you'll have a good time. Of course if you act like a Fark-wit you'll be treated accordingly. I think it has to do with the age of the surf culture.

Go anyway, I am from there (close), The one that screams is more into screaming than in taking waves. He can barely stand on the board and he is not even from there (but 30km west😂😂😂) . Then when he leaves that place to surf somewhere else(it does not work that frequently) ... He is kicked out. "Locals" in there are basically a joke themselves (like everywhere really).

Welcome to Spain Mate! Locals here tend to bully more than to protect or educate. It's also cultural, spaniards like to show off. Surf has also gone mainstream here, good breaks are always crowded. Hint: "Pay local taxes", that means, leave the first weave you have priority on to them, they will see it and let you pick one. It even works sometimes 😆. Good luck, stay safe.

I walked that entire coastline in one month, from Biarritz, France, to Ribadeo. I’ve seen all those beaches. I remember seeing some surfers occasionally, but not a lot. I remember that town with the Left, but there was no one surfing it. I remember it being choppy and wind whipped, as I walked my way past and out of town. I walked across Spain twice, and generally, the Spanish have no rules, especially in things like surfing. You could go out to a restaurant and tell the waiter to just give you a bottle of orujo and they’d just give you the booze free for having eaten there. Just kinda weird stuff I remember. It was kinda like the Wild West. I was a Spanish instructor at my local Uni and my grad instructor was from Spain and she did her thesis on Spanish women being the world’s largest curse word users. Interesting you said they were all yelling out in the lineup…they were probably just cursing and being loud which is like, in large part, their culture. In fact, one of my favorite sayings is comprised of entirely the F word. I was taught to say this to Spanish women I wanted to hook up with…remember vulgarity is commonplace in Spain: joder joder, que no joderemos, pero joder, que ganas tenemos! Translation: F F we’re not gonna F, but F we really desire to F. Also remember: el hombre como el oso cuanto mas pelo mas hermoso. And: la cebolla crece la polla. Ahhh the F’ing Spanish, gotta love them. Enjoy the pinchos mate. Aloha.

Skiping if the guy is a local or not, there are tenths of surfers there... it just can't work 1 wave per surfer.
Let's say, there are 60 surfers in the video. In the ideal case, 1 wave every 10 seconds, 6 waves per minute, so a surfer would catch a wave every 10 minutes, assuming all waves are good to catch.
Now add that not all waves are good to catch, it takes you some time to get into position, the waves you may fail to catch... are we talking about 1 wave every 30 minutes respecting 1 wave per person? Maybe more?
In my opinion the north coast is overcrowded at the moment. Surf got superpopular between the locals and too many foreigners on holidays or living in their vans around. No matter which beach you go and what weather conditions, it's always full. Even when sea is flat.
Now think you are the local doing your 9-17 work, go to surf and find the problem described above. Who wouldn't get mad?

    • @-Fank-
      @-Fank- 2 года назад

Who wouldn't get mad? Any decent surfer.. Getting mad at someone who's caught the wave, been on it for 50+ meters, for not hopping off and giving someone else a turn haha you're joking right.. how embarrassing

Kale, just subscribed. I think you have good intentions at heart and I trust your instincts on "fairness" in the lineup. At this crowded lineup, don't you think that there is a cap on how many waves you should get? I mean if you get ~5 excellent waves maybe its a good time to start helping others in the lineup and share the stoke and even waves. This guy dropping in does seem goofy and I do not condone this behavior. But perhaps in his perspective, you have caught so many waves, making it impossible for others to ride a wave. I wonder what is fair!

I appreciate the sentiment but in a line up with that many people, no, never going to work. That attitude is great amongst 3-5 surfers :)

Infront of Laredo beach, this wave its called La fortaleza, ONLY works with big wave days and low tide, the rest of the time the wave dissapears, very near from this one, there is another famous wave: El brusco: ONLY at low tide and in the morning, only pipelines, left and right. In Laredo, a good wave aswell, mainly right, good pipelines sometimes, mainly at low tide, Laredo wave with Oriñon wave its the ONLY waves that works with N, NO winds, the mainly winds here, overall in winter, if the wind is N or NO, then go to Laredo or Oriñon, don't waste your oil, because there is NO place of surfing in many, many kms away, because this two is cover of this bad winds by mountains. The Laredo wave its located near the end of the beach, where you can see easily people surfing in La fortaleza, right infront of. Oriñon wave its a few kms from Laredo, going to Bilbao direction, its a beautiful low tide river wave, but there is another point at the other side of the beach, that works at all tides, but worse in high tide.

@@malex_xander Ok maybe I owe an explanation. I've played basketball in Spain (near Jerez) and the Spaniards constantly foul, and flop to try to get the other team charged with fouls. It's worse than soccer, which is full of flopping effeminate cowards too. I just don't respect you guys.
