It's one of my favorite all-time speakers. I heard it many times at Adrian's store. I'm guessing you bought it from him. They were a steal at that price!
Wow, total surprise! And a good one! Never thought you would go that route... As this brand is the poster child for musicality, as opposed to pure neutrality. Great direction. I'm going to pay more attention to your future videos...
Although located in the high end, even ultra high end, I like your channel because it makes me dream and your objective passion is communicative. These prestigious pieces of equipment are out of reach for me, like a Porsche or a Ferrari, but what is life without dreams? Personally I'm happy with my Lavardin (a little-known brand in the USA) and I'm very happy with it. Bravo for your channel.
Wow! Incredible milestone Jay. Sonus Faber was my entry into Hi-Fi with the Cremona-M. Fantastic speakers with a warm rich tone that keep you engaged for hours on end. Looking forward to hearing these in the lab 🔥
I didn't know about this model. I LOVE the engineering. It is like they did the best of everything in a single box. Cannot wait to hear some sound samples!
The sound is Amazing! I took a moment to listen to the Wilson videos for comparison. The warm musical presentation offered by the Sonus Fabers is amazing. The fullness on the soundstage is, HUGLEY, Completely Immersive. The decay on the instruments is Stelar. With the Wilsons I noticed very specific imaging and detail. But the speed of the Wilsons seemed to lose rich warmth of the harmonics. I much prefer the fullness on the Sonus Fabers and the Thunderous Bass . Thanks Jay!!! Great Move. I know you viewed the Loss of the Wilsons with sadness. Even after considerable work setting the Wilsons up. I would constantly wonder ARE these the best setup adjustmentS? I appreciate your work, but I can not imagine your Pain When the Sonus Fabers leave. OH NO!!!!
Definitely unexpected. Very interesting speaker. Very much looking forward to hearing them and your more detailed impressions. I truly appreciate your work and dedication!
Sonus Faber, can be special. I still have my original Sonus Faber Extremas, bi amped and backed up by 3 x12" Sony Faber subs and two bespoke 18" to dig down to single digit frequencies. I love some of the Sonus Faber speakers, still a big fan of their early solid walnut masterpieces.
I think its wonderful that you are expanding your listening horizons to include brands that aren't the same old suspects. The world has some incredible products and opening you mind will allow you to find what is possible. Bravo Jay!
Hi. I knew the name of these was FENICE, the Fe 17 is not familiar. I've known them from the Hifi News and R. magazine review, from years ago. This was the ultimate loudspeaker, and still is! I'm interested in why they are placed with side woofers facing the sidewalls and not each other, in your lab. In the photos I've seen on them it was opposite. Congrats for having them! Cheers from the lovely Hungary!
Hi Jay. Congrats. I think you will be very pleased. I know for a fact that this is a musical and in all regards a great speaker. I'v had The Sf since 2015 and I'v started with a Gryphon amp. Great match. As you said The Sf can be bi- or tri-amped. In general, Sf reacts very well to a lot of power, better when most speaker brands. There is always on more gear to use, especially in The Sf. This is what I'm doing with may pair of The Sf - Tri-amping. I'v been writing to you before about Bi- and Tri-amping. These kind of big speakers can produce much better with more amps even if you don't think so right now. My tri-amped The Sf gets much better control, scale and everything else. The illusion of live real music gets better. When the music needs it, the 4 x10 inch bass woffers makes so much quick heavy chest pumping power that no other speaker I'v heard can produce. I'v heard a lot of big speakers. You have to try bi- or tri-amping to really hear what this speaker is capable of doing. I'll bet they already sounds formidable, but ... yours are probably just idleing with one amp. Though it's a big amp.
You delivered on your promise? No big deal Jay. You ALWAYS deliver on your promises. I'm glad you have these, and I can't wait to hear them and hear your more in depth review. But if you hear a truck backing up in your driveway tomorrow night don't be alarmed. I just mobilized a few gators.
You really need to play a few songs on these beasts!!! Something with great impact and here are a few songs : John Cafferty - Higher Ground, Sivert Hoyem - Keepsake and Now You See Me-Now You Don't, Muddy Waters - My Home Is In The Delta, Mari Boine - Today Starts Now, Fausto Mesolella - Tulipani, Vestbo Trio - Mudslide, Jennifer warnes - Way Down Deep and Big Scary - What It's All About. These will sound so good on your system so please check them out and record it d^^b
Congrats! Happy for you. With all the controversy about speaker measurements, I wonder how the best of the best measures. I suspect it has resonance and other anomalies like most speakers but what cannot be measured like soundstage is what’s important. You could measure with the rear speaker facing right then with facing left and highlight how the sound is very different but the measurements barely changed. I also think the rear firing speaker turns it into a pseudo open baffle speaker, cool how the angle can be changed. Can’t wait to hear it. Thanks for your dedication.
I sold my house just a little higher than that price. My gosh! This is a really surreal market. For that price, I can probably hire a band to play at my new home 3 times a week for a whole year. :-) My humble system: PS Audio gold dac and pre. Parasound JC5 and ELAC towers. I'm upgrading to Martin Logans or KEF soon. It will cost me an arm, a leg and my left kidney.
Wow! I expect Gryphon speakers . For synergy. But this loudspeakers it's ultra high end, very good of course . I'm glad to switch for Europe manufacturers. BR
Now that was a suprise! Have listened to many Sonus Faber speakers including my friends Aida, for some reason they all sounded boring compared to the likes of Borresen, Raidho, Wilson Alexia, Magico M6 just to name a few. I've always joked that Sonus Faber is more of a Italian furniture design company for the rich and not so much in good sound. Will be very interesting to follow up on your thought and review of the best of a speaker. Keep up the good work Jay.
I would love to hear you review some Piega loudspeakers. The Ribbon tweeter and midrange really is something else, very airy and light. They will be at Munich High end too. Their top of the line Loudspeaker is the Piega MLS MK2, i would be shocked if that speaker wouldn’t impress you. Keep up the work, lots of love from Germany!
I have yet to listen to a higher end sf than the Olympica nova line which is beautiful to look at… owned a pair of nova 1’s in a small room and they don’t like being played loud however I bet these do!!
My non-nova Oly 1s don't mind loud. It just takes the right amp. Say, tubed McIntosh amps such as MC75s they don't like---well they are fine to drive the tweeters. Then have a powerful Class D amp drive the smaller cone. No problem hitting peaks slightly over 100 dB. Never could get there with the MC75s alone. Use something like a Marchand for an active crossover.
@@petekutheis3822 I brought them home and at near field listening in my upstairs main system through mc2700/mc611’s I found their limit pretty quickly. Definitely at reasonable and even loud for same room Listening they were great but I ended up swapping them for a pair of 805d3’s I found on Craigslist for about half of their used value in matte white so I made the switch just this month
However they were stellar in the bedroom system I bought them for. They were powered with a bridged p429 arcam and I couldn’t max them out in there but oh my goodness, those 805’s fill the room like a tower. Obviously different kinda sound but Very impressive for a sub $4k used market small speakwr
